10 Things School didn’t teach you: 1. What success really is 2. Finding you passion 3. The right way to start a business 4. Managing your time 5. Financial intelligence 6. Communicating with customers 7. Emotional and Mental Awareness 8. Selling your ass off 9. Negotiating 10. Facing your failure

Selling to myself is another top sale that's always on the market
@robertjones70234 жыл бұрын
When I was a kid I had very little direction from my family. My dad went into the Navy and then worked at Kodak for 30 years, no college. We moved out of state five times to avoid layoffs. My mom would be happy if I was a supermarket grocery clerk. Despite these low expectations, poor grades, and learning disabilities, somehow, I knew there was more to being successful in life. Thankfully I had a number of teachers in high school who saw something in me that I did not see in myself. At the time I thought that success was going to college was the ticket to getting a ‘good job’. I worked as a landscaper, and a waiter to put myself through community college. Afterward, I transferred into a Landscape Architecture program. I thrived in this program earning President's honors for three years. After this program, I was in a world of trouble, drowning in student loan debt. I was laid off in the great recession, unable to make student loan payments, my debt ballooned to nearly double what I had originally taken out. It took nearly ten years to pay this down. During this time, I studied for and passed the Landscape Architecture license exam. I am now licensed in four states and have worked all over the country. I have worked for the top Architecture and Engineering firms in Upstate NY and suppose that this would have met my definition of success ten years ago. However, my definition has changed, to be a great leader and manager. I have had horrible bosses over the years which has helped to shape my interest in this area. Seeing people get promoted until they fail and staying stuck at that threshold, or a company promoting a top designer into management without proper management skills is the norm. This approach sets good people up for failure and then they get stuck at a level that they are not competent in. I completely agree that our education system has missed most of the fundamentals of business and basic money management skills. Last year, I started listening to audio leadership and management books. In one year I finished 20. These were playing during my commute to work, in the background at work, before I went to bed. Every waking moment, I devoted myself to learning these skills. My new definition of success is focused on being the best leader and manager that I can be. But, I am not done yet. Daymond, Thank you for sharing your failures, successes, and experiences. You are an inspiration to me and help keep me motivated to be a better version of myself so that I can provide greater value to the world. Both of my kids have dyslexia, when they get frustrated or are feeling down I remind them of you and the other sharks with dyslexia. You are a reminder to us that despite this challenge they can become successful like you. Thank you.

Am I the only one who thinks that school taught me nothing about life? 😂 Loving your videos! 👌🏻

School taught me math (my best subject) and to not conform to the masses and do your own thing. So far, those lessons have done me very well. Unfortunately, they didn't actually teach not to conform to the masses, I just figured that out on my own based off of how schools operate
@jamescole96253 жыл бұрын
Your correct it doesn't . but then again it dose. Just say if you're from a family of business people, school would have you on point because you'll already have the drive to get stuff done from the family or friends. But without that school doesn't teach you street life and how to get a idea going but it teaches you how to survive in the world

Deymond John, I follow you on LinkedIn, I have been following you from almost the beginning when I stumbled in to LinkedIn, lol. At 51 yo and been a private caregiver for a number of years, the learning curve trying to get back into public working, has been a damn full time job in itself. I vowed I would not be left behind, tech wise, current and future. I think I had actually resigned myself to ????, and that has never been me. I don't even think I have 6 people that I am linked to, lol. I always come away renewed though. I hate I didn't know you were on KZbin before. Its nice to sit back and listen sometimes instead of being in a chat. ✌️ INDEPENDENT THINKING is one thing that schools seem to lack, I feel sometimes on purpose. Keep em corraled kind of mentality. Have a great evening...

Good evening sir, great list. I was looking at your suits and saw some really nice stuff. Could I ask why they are all slim fit or modern fit? Why no classic or regular fit suits? Skinny and Slim are just cut weird and they honestly don't fit most men. But you have some really nice patterns and look of the suits just if you could offer suits that actually fit normal men and not cut to squeeze the life out of your body. Thanks.

Hello Daymond, I found the information included in this video very informative. This information will be put to good use in building a sturdy foundation retrofitted for my own business. Also just as a side note. The link to your KZbin channel is a broken link. It leads to a 404 error page informing "This page isn't available. Sorry about that. Try searching for something else." The same is true about your Instagram page. Just thought you'd like to know so if possible they could be fixed.

Hey Daymond, are you guys on Shark Tank allowed to recommend “Honest” Patent Attorneys we can use. I’ve been ripped off so many times by patent attorneys when they want to rewrite and resubmit the descriptions of my ideas charging thousands of dollars each time until what started at $5000, is now well over $10,000. I run out of money and the attorney has my idea. Who do you use as your Patent Attorney? I want to come on Shark Tank with an Invention that You would absolutely love.

Besides learning to read and write, school is the biggest waste of time in an individuals life. People get Away with things in school, that as an adult you would go to jail for.

I have admired Daymond for many years on Shark Tank. However, 01/06/21 I bought his Daymond On Demand service and never received the downloads. I tried several times to contact his customer service by email and phone with no response. Now I am dealing with my credit card for a refund. Very disappointing and a waste of my time.
