Hi Dan. Petrol prices in uk are historically very high. It’s something we reluctantly put up with. At the moment, unleaded is about £1.60 per litre. Which is about 159 rouble per litre. Scary. We have cut down our car use to the minimum. No more extravagant unnecessary journeys. Looking forward to your next video. All the best to you and your family. Matt.

@@barbaracarter6726 What do you save on average? 3 cents a gallon? Assuming you get a full tank of 16 gallons, you are "saving" 48 cents, maybe a dollar at best if it is 6 cents cheaper per gallon. Assuming you end up driving an extra 5 or 10 minutes to get "cheaper" gas, even at an entry level job that pays the Federal Minimum wage of $7.25, an extra 5 or 10 minute drive is 60 cents or $1.20 of your time, respectively. I would guess you make more than Federal minimum which makes it even worse to go somewhere else for the "best deal" instead of a gas station on your way to/from work on your normal route. Even if you are retired, your time is still worth more than the change you will save by driving to a different gas station.
@dhoyda
@dhoyda 2 жыл бұрын
You can thank the government for that and it isn't just gas prices due to differing tax structures from State to State. If you live in a suburb, you are paying more for internet, phone, cable, and most other utilities as a way to subsidize the price of those same services to areas deemed "less affluent" aka the poor parts of your city (this is why most areas of the US only have one service provider for these services, sometimes two but their prices will be basically identical). The US, as a whole, also subsidizes the price of prescription drugs to the rest of the world. Many of the prescriptions that people often struggle to afford in their later years are available for pennies on the dollar in many countries; not generics either, the actual name brand version. The government is the muscle that enforces all of these wealth redistribution policies.
@barbaracarter6726

@@dhoyda I don't buy gallons - I buy litres. I'm retired - and I find the gas station that is nearest to me is usually the cheapest. So I save 2 cents a litre which is a good savings on a full tank of gas - 3.8 litres per US gallon which is over 7 and a half cents per gallon. Our minimum wage is $15.65 per hour. But the average rent for a one bedroom apartment is $2200 per month. But if it cheapest gas is further away, all I do is change the order I am running errands and do the ones that are near that station. Currently we pay about $1.99 per litre which is $7.52 CDN per US gallon. My time is my own - you can't put a dollar value on time when you are retired - but then you are from the USA and everything is about your time is money thing. It isn't. Because you can't buy time with money. No one can. You buy work with money.

Hello Dan, The United States has different prices in every state for everything. So, for example if you live in California the price of living is extremely higher. The price of gas, food, houses and everything is higher. But, in California the minimum a job can pay you is $14 per hour. In Texas the Minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Texas is 21.1% cheaper than California. You may make more money in California, but you are charged more for everything. Why are the prices for everything different in each state? The difference in price might be based on the shipping cost, the taxes each state charges (each state has different tax prices also), or the amount people in that state/location are willing to pay. Prices are also varied based on demand, such as a product that is competing with many rivals in a market versus a product that is exclusive to a market. For instance, people that live near the ocean may be able to buy fresh fish cheaper because it's plentiful where as people that live in the middle of the United States and have to have the fish shipped to them have to pay more for the cost of shipping and because the company selling the fish know they can raise the price and make a profit off the people because the people want the fish but cannot get it on their own and the people will pay more for the fish to be able to get it. I'm sorry this was so long. I hope this helps. I know it explains everything a little better. I live in Texas. By the way Dan, Your English is Excellent! I Love your KZbin Channel! Thank you for all your wonderful videos. I love learning about Russia, how we differ and how we are the same. 🥰

@@DearestDawn That is minimum wage. Check it! I was just stating the difference between California and Texas Minimum wage. I only gave info that I researched through Google and Bing that said $7.25 per hour is Minimum wage in Texas and California's Minimum wage is $14 per hour. Yes, every business is different but what each business pays has nothing to do with Minimum Wage! What I stated was the Minimum a job can pay you in each state. I was not going into detail for every company in the state! I was only comparing the difference between the cost of living in each state and how every state is different! It is a fact that the cost of living in California is much higher than in Texas!! this is what Google says when you ask "Is the cost of living higher in California than in Texas? California is one of the most expensive states to live in. Texas is more affordable, almost across the board."

@@Rainy_Day12234 So, I see everyone is nit picking and not getting the point of what I'm saying. I had to have a base to compare each state! Every company pays different. Some pay more some pay lots more. Whatever! I was just picking two states and comparing. I know many people that have lived in both California and in Texas and say Californias cost of living is much higher. Plus, If you do your research California is much higher. I don't know about your illegal immigrants but according to google in DFW Texas McDonalds crew members make $9.31 per hr, Taco Bell pays $9 per hr cashier $11 per hr line cook, Quicktrip gas station pays between $11 & $12 per hr. So most fast food convenient store companies do not pay $15 per hour in DFW Texas area. And because the amount varies I chose to look up the minimum wage of each state and use that as a comparison. I hope that clears it up for everyone.

Dan, this a quote from Wikipedia on Shell. "Shell Oil Company is the United States-based subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, a multinational "oil major" of Anglo-Dutch origins, which is amongst the largest oil companies in the world. Approximately 22,000 Shell employees are based in the U.S. The U.S. head office is in Houston, Texas." It is huge in my state of Texas. About half of all gas stations are Shell. And as there, the prices are generally higher there than other gas stations. But they are clean, reliable and well run. I am old and I don't ever remember a time when there were not Shell gasoline stations.

Dan, here's a tip for when you visit the US someday. When writing numbers or dollar values, we put the symbol first. Example $25.00 Also, we only use commas to denote thousands, millions, billions, etc. 1,000 would be one thousand. But for fractions below one, we use a decimal point. 1.000 would still be one. ( 1 ) So forty-five cents would be $0.45 . Forty-five dollars would be $45.00 . Forty-five dollars and thirty-three cents would be $45.33 . One thousand forty-five dollars and thirty-three cents would be $1,045.33 . Likewise, in general numbers (excluding money), this 1,045.33 would simply be one thousand forty-five, point three three. Sometimes when dealing with money, if the amount is less than a dollar we place the symbol for "cents" at the back. So 45¢ would be forty-five cents. $00.45 and 45¢ are the same thing. 😊 Confusing enough? 😅 As we say in the American South, it's "clear as mud".

In some parts of the US in 2019 gas got back down to 1.99 dollars per gallon. Buying gas from other people. Putting as much regulation as possible to make it not possible to collect more. They do everything they can to lie and say there is a shortage when its not possible to not have enough and then they try to make it look like its real by stealing everyones money. They are trying to make a slave state like Europe where no one can drive away if they try and kill everyone. They don't actually want every one to move to electric cars. They want cars only for the corrupt and guns only for the corrupt. Shell is Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum - started in The Netherlands but is now all over the world. So your price in Russia is 49 rubles. In my city in Canada, it would convert to 121.07 rubles per litre. Not only does it depend on the province because of the different taxes, it also depends on how far the gasoline has to be transported by truck. The gas stations that sell the most gas are able to buy the gas at a bit lower price and so can lower the cost to their customers. It is very confusing and I think the oil companies like it that way.

Thanks for the information Dan! To try and answer your question as to why states prices are so different you have to look at each state almost as its own country. Each state has its own government policies and taxes. Not only do Americans get taxed by our government, but we also pay taxes to the state and each state charges different amounts. We pay tax on our gas and each state sets their own amount you pay. Prices can also be determined by geography and how far your state is from refineries, pipelines and how difficult it is to get the fuel to your area. I understand how confusing it is. I hope this helped a little and I didn't confuse you even more. 😊 Greetings from North Carolina!!

The price for gasoline includes taxes ( US, state, local) . This final amount is what is posted at gasoline stations. In addition, some states do not allow the sale of 100% gasoline because it is claimed that it creates more air pollution. Different grades of gasoline are mixed with ethanol which by itself has higher burning temperature and lower gasoline mileage. This so-called "Gasohol" is more prevalent in the winter. My opinion is that the ethanol is produced from corn and this helps farmers in the winter sell the distilled corn ( ethanol). Gasohol can have bad effects on internal combustion engines and gaskets and seals designed only for gasoline. In our country ( USA) we have many oligarchs ( billionaires) who have control of our government via legal bribery called "campaign contributions", PAC's ( Political Action Committees) and Super PACS with literally billions of dollars. The government agencies that are supposed to monitor the "campaign contributions" are appointed by the politicians ( representatives?) of the same political donors. Individuals have strict limits on political contributions but these PACs and Super Pacs can do most anything they want.

I think the difference in prices in the U.S. is because some states add very high taxes to their gas and others have low taxes. Some of it is how much the oil companies think people will pay too. One reason gas goes up during vacation times and times of better employment. THEN we get inflation because everything costs more. Right not some of the pricing is due to sanction but not much as we didn't get much oil from Russia at all. Just the oil companies as always jacking up prices because they can. Hear in Indy 3.80 for 89 and diesel 4,89 not moving up or down ! But wow they have higher octane where Dan and family at but also are road taxes on fuel very from state to state that’s one reason their a broad difference in fuel prices !!!

In Virginia we are paying about $3.89/gal for 87 octane and $4.19 for 93 octane. Diesel was $5.29/gal I believe. It’s was about $0.30/gal higher recently but when summer travel season begins it will probably jump up at least $0.50/gal😰

Shell is a British corporation, their headquarter is in London. --- Where I get Regular (lowest octane) gasoline here in Northern California today is $5.29 per gallon. Right across the street it is $5.89. They blame the high prices on Russia, which is a straight up lie. Before the sanctions less than 2% of the crude oil used in the U.S. came from Russia. This in no way justifies the doubling of gas prices. The real reason is corporate greed and price gouging. --- “Never let a good crisis go to waste”. --- Winston Churchill

Gas prices around the world are determined by futures. It is like the stock market. The only thing government can do is change the amount of taxes you pay. What affects the cost the most is supply and demand. The USA which you say only gets 2% of Russian oil doesn't mean anything to the world price of gas, the futures. Everyone is still burning the same amount of gas, only there is less Russian gas. Less supply higher world prices. Russia now has lots of excess gas and there prices are low. Cut off from the world.

@@trainstractorscarsandtruck7362 in short - no. Russia is selling a bit less oil to the US and EU but that "excess" just goes to China, India and other 85% of the world that didn't sanction Russia. Countries that hold 7/8 of world's population don't care about US dictate and there's no way they can be pushed, bribed or threatened into sanctioning Russia.

We also have a nearby Shell gas station with a smaller store. Right now one gallon is $6.00 US. A few months ago it was $4.00 US, but we are in California and have taxes and fees added that most other states do not. We are also in a rural community so it’s slightly higher than in the nearest city. Stations use the .99 trick here too and I don’t like it either! I read last month that Shell was closing all stores in Russia, but maybe another company is running it with the Shell brand?? Or Shell isn’t really closing them. How would anyone know, unless they were watching your channel? 🤔

In Central Texas we bought gas one week ago, 89 octane -- only choices being 87 octane, 89 octane and 92 octane -- and paid just over $4 per gallon, something like $4.39 per gallon (for 89 octane). This is a big increase from a month or two ago, which was about one dollar per gallon cheaper. It was a Shell station here also. I think Shell must be a multinational company. I am super curious why in Russia they have such HIGH octane and what kind of difference it makes in their cars. Texas usually has lower gasoline prices than most other states -- I think maybe because of natural resources here which include gasoline (or so I have been told).

Europe in general uses a higher octane fuel, at least in numbers, I believe they have a different way they calculate octane so that’s why it’s higher. Yes Royal Dutch Shell is a multinational corporation.

@@DinanBMWm5 Japan and Europe use a system called RON or Research Octane Number to determine the octane rating of their gasoline, while stateside we use a system called AKI or Anti-Knock Index to determine gasoline's octane rating. To further complicate things, the AKI system is actually derived from the average of the RON system and another more complicated system referred to as MON or Motor Octane Number. To recap, The USA's methodologies for measuring gasoline's octane rating are different, but share some common elements. With the commonality of RON in mind a good rule of thumb is: Multiply the foreign RON Octane rating by 0.95 and you will have the US AKI equivalent ( RON Octane Rating x 0.95 = AKI Octane Rating ) 98 RON Octane x 0.95 = 93.1 AKI Octane (US measure) 100 RON Octane x 0.95 = 95 AKI Octane (US measure) So, as you can see the 93 or 94 octane fuel we are all paying an arm and a leg for is actually quite comparable to the higher octane fuels found in Europe and Japan. The people whom have to worry about low octane rating are our friends out west in places like California that top out at 91 octane. 91 AKI Octane (US measure) = 95.5 RON Octane

Thank you for sharing the gas prices. The average price for gas in Chicago, Illinois USA is USD $4.58 gallon. Prices vary by area because local and state taxes are added to the base price. The price of gas in Illinois is cheaper than New York, California and other states but more expensive than some states. Normally, Americans are okay if gas prices are around $3.00 gallon but it's very hard when the price is more than $4.00 gallon especially in places without busses or trains.

I live just north of you in McHenry county and gas here today averages $4.29 a gallon. It's a little less in Lake County. I'm right on the Wisconsin state line so I often zip over the line into Cheese Land and fill up there as the tax set up is different and I can get BP or Mobil a lot cheaper. My clunker doesn't run well on the off brands so I avoid them.

Review what oil was per barrel before Bidey and the gang rolled into power. Was right at $60 per barrel before they swept Trump out of office, shutting down drilling , the ANWR area, no more exploring on Federal lands of which there are millions of acres. Closed the Keystone pipeline that was being built that would carry a lot oil to the refineries in the South. And much else for the Green New Deal cabal. Taking this nation down for the Globalist agenda is job one. Ja? Oil has hit over $115 during this Bidey debacle.

Thank you Dan for your honest explorations in research. I love how you show the world your real truth in Russia. If I personally had the time Id do the same. Yes it true, pricing gasoline in America is difficult. But in short, all fuel is priced based on the main trading market, from there each area starting from first the state, then county, then town or city based on their own tax rates will either make the fuel more or less expensive. Plus like in Russia we have many fuel station companies each company does their best to attract customers with their better fuel. Advertisement trick. HOWEVER, In some cases there are I believe theives who try to steal extra money by raising their prices but bc we are lucky like in Russia to have many fuel stations people all shop for best prices and quality.

That is true Rennae. The store or gas station also make money off fuel. They do not make much per gallon but they do make some. When I was a kid my mom had a small country store. She made three cents per gallon sold. That was back in the 70s. The 3 cents did add up but she also had to pay rent on her tanks.
