We run 700 Suffolk mules and you will always have deaths regardless and people who may comment saying ‘why do you have so many deaths’ likely aren’t educated on what we can lose during lambing and the fact you lamb a majority outside it’s admirable that you show the issue you do have and not shy from that. We lamb inside for all and it’s not uncommon to have 4/5% loss inside let alone outside do I tip my hat to you Canmy

You're doing a fine job. I'm sure many of the viewers just don't realize that some times death happens at birth and that's just the way it is. Heck, many of your viewers are Sandy's viewers and for some reason they forget that she loses about 10% lambing in a barn. That's just the way it is. The other thing is you tend to focus your videos on the problems and not the hundreds of lambs you have alive that you haven't touched. Let's be real, I'm sure you have as many viewers that have never actually seen or assisted the birth of livestock and think it's like a person giving birth in a hospital with a doctor, nurse and other professional staff ready to assist and millions of dollars of technological equipment at their disposal within a minute. That's not reality for a farmer trying to earn a living and feed his family. Keep up the good work and if you don't want the people commenting on the reality, show more of the success that you're having and less of the challenges, as it seems your videos are focused on the challenges... Thanks for the video and I hope the weather improves for you and makes the rest of lambing easy
@1striperon2 жыл бұрын
As for me, I have assisted the birth of hundreds of calves. Even one loss was a failure. And seldom was cold rain or predation a factor. I’ve fixed a prolapsed uterus, given intravenous medication, intramuscular medication, and made sure the calf had its first colostrum, often between midnight and 4:00 AM. No, not sheep, but parallel. So leave me out of your generalization. 😊

I wish I’d saved it so I could study up. Again, this video is amazing. Your efforts with the “difficult” cases was stellar. I can only speak for myself I guess but I want to see the good, the bad and the ugly or I’d be going to a petting zoo. It’s always fascinating to learn something new. I appreciate you keeping it real and showing all the problems and all the positives. I've lambed sheep for 20 years and just when you think you have everything sussed mother nature will let you know who is boss. Also, I'd have left that lamb carcass out for the fox, with 100cc's of gramoxone injected into, not trying to be controversial but I believe you are entitled to try and protect your animals by whichever means.

What you shared today is real life with its ups and downs, it’s challenges and frustrations, it’s danger and successes. Have you considered putting a donkey in the field with the fox problem? They are supposed to be really good guard animals and can live off of grass.
@vwvw42 жыл бұрын
@@mimidavis2686 Where have you seen this? I've had Mammoth donkeys for years and know dozens of people with standard donkeys, all of us living on farms with high coyote populations and I've never heard of nor witnessed a donkey killing a coyote. I have seen standard and mini donkeys attack sheep and literally lift them by their fleeces and toss them as well as kick sheep and trample them if spooked. Most donkeys won't differentiate between a fox and a border collie when either is worrying/working the sheep. Also getting a donkey that will actually guard is hit and miss and though they graze, they also require maintenance; farrier, can't go on lush pasture as will founder, etc. I can say from experience, there's no comparison between a donkey and a guardian dog, the guardian dog is far superior as it creates a territory through scent marking that a donkey doesn't and also works day and night. That said, for Cammy's situation with people walking dogs near the property a guardian dog would be a bad choice as it would likely go off the property to go after people's dogs.

Thank you *so much* for sharing your experiences with us & especially all the precious lambs!💜 I really need the distractions & smiles..especially right now..as my grandfather in law just passed away Monday & the wake was last night with the funeral today.😔Since both of my own grandfathers passed away before I was 4yrs old…my grandfather in law(PawPaw)is the only grandfather I’ve ever known. Him & MawMaw welcomed me into the family with open arms when my husband & me began dating at just 15yrs old. PawPaw married us at our wedding when we were 18yrs old which was almost 21yrs ago now. So they have been my grandparents for 24yrs..almost a quarter of a century now. Losing him is especially difficult as my MIL(his daughter)passed away in August at 56yrs old from cancer & my FIL’s mother(who I never met)passed away in January.😔😔 PawPaw passed away on his 81st birthday. PawPaw & my MIL were the heart & soul of the family…who made things happen & who were always there for everyone in the family & many others. My MIL was a second mother & like a sister to me as well. BC she had my husband when she was 18yrs & my own half brother is 17yrs older than me…meaning my MIL, half brother & SIL were all nearly the same age making my MIL often feel like a sister at times. Out of everyone in the family PawPaw & especially my MIL are who my husband has always been the closest to & in many ways I was closer to them than my own family since my dad passed away from cancer in 2005 when I was 22yrs old. The fact that both me & my husband have lost a parent to rare cancers without any successful treatment options is gut wrenching. That experience & loss is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone but especially not my husband.😔😔What has made losing my MIL & grandfather in law even worse is the fact that due to her being on chemo & PawPaw having respiratory issues…we were not able to visit or hug them much the last 2.5yrs due to COVID.😔 As the LAST thing we wanted to do was give either of them COVID possibly causing them to have to spend their final days alone in the hospital ICU. I’m just glad PawPaw was able to be surrounded by family & friends when passing since COVID rates here is very low. But THANK YOU for providing a distraction & some smiles…it means more than you will ever know❤️❤️ -Wow😳😳 I’ve been complaining & struggling with gas(petrol) at $4.259/US here in the extreme southeastern US! Which we have the lowest gas & diesel prices in the US due to the fact most refineries are in this area. So roughly $68-72 for 16-16.5gal to completely fill up my Chevy SUV at $4.259/gal. *Meanwhile* you just paid £107.44 for 60 liters! Which equates to 15.85 gallons for $139.672 US dollars!!😳🤯😳😓 I’ll remember this next time I feel bad about the price we pay per gallon! Also in the last couple of days gas(petrol) has dropped to as low as $3.709/gal for regular unleaded & $3.909-$4.059/gal for mid grade!! Which I use mid grade bc in my specific vehicle(2010 Chevy Equinox SUV 4 cylinder)it SIGNIFICANTLY increases the mileage I get per tank(literally by 75-100 miles!) & since my husband drives 40 miles one way for work 5 days a week & we also have to drive that same distance one way for groceries, doctor appts, pharmacy, etc bc we live way way out in the middle of no where in the country/woods surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest. We now end up spending $275-350/per 2wk paycheck! Which when you only make $750-850/per paycheck…that’s rough.😕 Especially since I’m unable to work due to being disabled because of multiple chronic health problems…his is the sole income.😕

What a great video, first time I’ve seen a rope used on a lamb I don’t think most of what happens is negative in the sense of failure. It’s more nature occurring as it does. Foxes kill and eat that’s a fact of farming not all births are successful. Just keep doing what your doing it’s hard work you and Lizzie are experts at it.

Great lammies, Cammy! You have my utmost respect for everything that you do and show us. In one video you have me run through many emotions. I love the orange plastic bag jackets. So cute. Hopefully the orange isn’t attracting mr or mrs 🦊?

Cammy, I enjoy your videos and watch them regularly. I run goats on pasture in the US. I use livestock guard dogs to keep our predators at bay, does anybody in the UK use guard dogs? Curious if predation is the same, or getting worse where you farm? Thanks again for making the videos, learn a lot and love the scenery!

You are both heroes to rescue these wee ones and going above and beyond to save them. Can the county help you deal with the fox because he or she will continue to pick off the babies? Maybe move the remaining ones to a different pasture. You are both smarter than me. Bravo for your cool under the heat of crisis.

Wow, Cammy! Another wild ride of a day! I do hope that you have some gentler days ahead. Blessings to you, Lizzie, Jock & your C*vid bubble. Take care!

Jesus Cammy you must not have a minute to yourself with all this work and then editing a vlog everyday, don’t think any of your viewers would mind you missing a days video. You need to look after yourself while trying to recover from covid. So interesting how the different breeds respond different ways during lambing. Diesel is a wild price, although yours seem a penny or two dearer than ours here in Northern Ireland. Great videos and a great staring role of lizzy, you and wee jock in landward. Was able to catch it on the iPlayer

Just watching you lamb that texel hogg, reminds me of when my uncle bought 7 texel crosses, shearlings not hoggs but we had to pull 4, plus one c section. They're not built for easy lambing!

What a contraption, glad it works. Looks like you’re feeling better.
