Massive animals but here’s a tip; our merinos are tipping the scales around 100kg plus a 4-500mm horn spread. The boys can be very feisty but try locking them up for 24-48 hours, they lose a little condition and their stomachs empty making them easier to hold in position. Our Industry Code of Practice requires it and if we ran sheep in straight from the paddock the shearers would walk. I find it amusing to see shearing in the big blue shed but appreciate the different scale of operations. Love the video.
@gregedmand9939 Жыл бұрын
It's obvious Shearers on this job aren't unionized! The H&S reps would be screaming. There must be safer ways to manage these huge rams for both them and the man's sake. It was cringe worthy seeing those hooves on Cammy's ram kicking so close to James' head. James missed being dumped off the trailer onto his neck by inches. It's entertaining to watch, but nearly criminal for recklessness.

You're right about that. I was once leading in a draft cross mare who decided she wanted to take off and go see some other horses (she was herd bound). Ok, seeing the rest is good too. 😆 Now then interpreting the English language, as a native english speaker mind you, 😆 quite a challenge. (Thank deity of choice for captions. 😝) An enjoyable one though. 😎 Also want to say although nearest I've been to sheep is thier wool, haven't had any concerns about ther welfare. Well, have to admit - feel for the slips, skids and bangs. Not criticism, empathy from decades of such things myself. 😆 Anyway, no trouble at all recognizing what hard work shearing is. Aloha 🍍

Holy cow, those rams are huge! I hope the shearer that got run over wasn't hurt (though like with any guy, I'm sure he landed right on his pride 😉). Seriously though, it's hard to really see how big they are until you are right next to them, and trying to shift them around. A question from Across the Pond - you mentioned you were shearing great big Blueface Leicester tups…..and there were some of them, waiting their turns, in the race chute behind the shearing station. Roman noses, blue grey faces with no wool - Blueface Leicester. But the tups that were actually being shorn when one decided to escape, had black legs, feet, and heads, and wool on their faces; *not* a Blueface Leicester tup. I’d guess Suffolk because of their black legs and faces, but Suffolk’s don’t have wool on their faces. Lots of Sheep Fans watch videos to learn more about the different breeds of sheep, how various sheep farms operate, and of course enjoy both the shearing process and the beautiful countryside (and we have fun listening to voices that sound so different than our own back home🙂). We’d appreciate knowing what breeds are being handled, even when they are commercial mixes - just because it’s interesting!

Oh my gosh never really thought of the big boys. We have goats that weigh only 60 pounds not even close and if we want to hold them for any reason good blinking luck. Appreciate that you guys do care that its just their nature to get out of that not natural pose. I really think they also like the clipping after effect guess just animal instinct to not want to be pinned and can see the odd one panicking a bit to much. So that is admirable you give those massive fellows their trims. Glad James is ok. He is very fit which helps and no kidding with all that heavy ewe weight to hold all day long as well. hugs

Well done! Do you ever shear for handspinners or purely commercial farms?
