ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Hi Cammy, you two are the cutest couple. Great video. I was very interested in seeing Cammy use the hand blades. You did great Cammy. I got a big kick out of the one Alan was shearing, that was kicking its back leg. I guess it did feel really good. Kicking like a dog being scratched and loving it. So cute to see. Take care and stay safe till next time. ❤❤❤❤

My uncle used to tell me stories of when him and his brothers along with other guys in the surrounding area would sheer 1000+ sheep with hand sheers in the 70s and 80s before the Australian and kiwis sheerers started touring the Highlands and Islands with electric sheers. Sounded like a brutal job having to do that many by hand

Surprisingly our hands get very fit buy not super strong. It's actually a lot easier on the body to blade shear as you don't have to turn the sheep to face the machine and the sheep tend to struggle less.

It was nice to see you safely under a roof, but I understand it can be hot without proper ventilation. And then seeing you again under the sun later! At least you have a hat, which is proper. The view there is definitely beautiful, I do envy you being there. Lizzy is just lovely in her grumpiness. You know she is absolutely amazing, but now that she is in your videos we know that too. Excellent video as always - but the dodgy lights are not the only illegal thing about your trailer! In the UK a trailer over 750 kg must have brakes, and yours surely weighs way over that even without all the kit on it. You're allowed up 3500 kg on over-run brakes, if the tow vehicle rated for it (which a Navarra is). Your trailer has meaty twin axles so perhaps it has brakes that are not connected, in which case you may just need an over-run hitch and the connecting cables. I don't trust the magnets on those wireless light clusters - they drop off when you hit a bump. I made clips to hold mine, but a bit of baler twine would do it too!

In the barn growing up, we had a big fan - I remember when it went in, hanging high, aiming at the holding area for the cows before milking. What a blessed event! (For reference, it was probably near 100F / 40C and *humid*.) Honestly though, you didn't start sweating until the manual shears were in your hand!

I could see shearing with the blades if the sheep haven't been shorn for a while and their coat is matted or something, but shearing with the electric shaver does a better job of cutting the fleece off the sheep, and it's faster... and it seems like it's a bit safer as well... for the sheep...

@patpierce4854
@patpierce4854 Жыл бұрын
Typically in Scotland, there’s only 1 lambing season per year. The sheep are able to cope with tougher weather and poorer ground, normally lamb without assistance needed, and twins are the norm. Further south where it’s warmer, and less extreme, there have been breeds developed that can lamb out of season, but it’s a different style of farming and how the stock are managed.
