A bit of unsolicited advice here, but it will pay off big in the long run: Pay down your mortgage (if your contract allows it) by as much as possible every chance you get. Every cent you can pay in addition to your normal monthly payment means less interest and fewer of the other fees that add up to be paid over the life of a mortgage. Make sure there's no extra fee for paying it off early, then go for it.

Congrats on the sale of the lambs. Yes market lamb prices are doing very well. In Canada (Alberta), it’s $4+/lb for smaller (store lambs) and the 110 lb plus lambs were averaging $3-3.40. I was tempted to sell my weaned sept/october 2024 born lambs instead of feeding them myself cause prices are so good. It’s awesome for us producers to have that. Gotta take it while the going is good!!

Great prices for your lambs, Cammy. You & Lizzy have worked so hard this last year. Your visitor Barry, I wish his wife & new premmie bub all the best. That is a great weight gain for 2 weeks. Good luck little b7bba 🙏💙My twins ❤️❤️ were premmie at 34+5 weeks at 3lb 13oz & 5lb 6oz. It's hard going. I hope he had a great day out of the hospital with you. I'm sure you've got lots of work for him to keep him busy as they'll be in the NICU/SCN for many weeks to come.

Our prices in Ontario are also very high. Especially for cull ewes which have been selling for over $400/head.

How amazing for you and Lizzie, the prices your Lambs are fetching is great! And also great timing for these prices, paying mortgage, maybe have a wee bit left over for the upgrades for the new Farm too. And the Lambs truly look really good, that single ewe lamb going to nearly 190 pounds!? She was a gorgeous Lamb, no doubt!
@LTeppler14 сағат бұрын
So happy to see your lambs are selling well! I am shocked that the price of lambs is going sky high. In the USA I've been seeing lamb prices in the store come down to record lows. Chicken is going through the roof at sometimes over $5 a pound and I saw lamb at $3 per pound in Walmart yesterday, then $4.50 per pound in Safeway. At the beginning of 2024 lamb was up at $10.99 per pound in those stores.
@CricketsBay8 сағат бұрын
Oh, wow. Lamb roast here is normally $14.99/lb. At Thanksgiving, our local grocery store had s special for $6.99/lb, but now it's gone back up.
@janetmaher11166 сағат бұрын
@LTeppler I’d say with a 99% level of confidence that cheap lamb was imported from Australia. Most commonly Thomas Farms.

Have you considered using the buildings at your new farm for a more intensive lamb rearing system a bit like Sandi Brock? Lamb is always cheapest during the glut of production and most expensive when we're at the end of an annual production cycle where the new stock is not yet ready for the market. With the advantage of the buildings for lambing earlier & later than the usual times plus being able to use them to help finish lambs for market in the most effective way without lots of grazing. You are in a fairly unique position to try something a little bit different from the same as everyone else maybe?
