Brilliant. Even works in 3.61 swapping from the Vertex Color to the new Color Attribute

Fantastic tutorial! Concisely covers a wide range of topics in a very visual manner If you want to still use vertex colours to control the colour of the lighting, you can do this on a separate vertex colour layer, and choose which layer you sample for what in the shader editor. Support for multi-layer vtx colours in game engines will vary, however

I’m currently going through your playlist to learn rn. I wanna learn how to use blender for modeling in general but I wanted the retro style for it as well, so I appreciate this playlist sooo much. Im like on video 3 atm but im going to just try and practice modeling stuff around my house. Im new to blender, but I have cinema4d that JUST got the basics of, so wish me luck ✌🏾

this is tasteful tutorial but i have one q: I'm doing all matters but Unity doesn't show the volume ray material exactly. How can i do it? It's solid look like

This is great, and I have a question! I tried to export this for a project in Unity. However, the texture maps go from white (bright) to black (dark). How could someone export it so that the opacity changes instead of the color?

what about a video for this in cycles?
@randymarsh34322 жыл бұрын
what about columetric shadows? same thing but multiply? also fake casinting them or breaking the rays when an oject blocks them- maybe they have to be rigged to sretch out to the first thing they collide with....
@TheSicklyWizard2 жыл бұрын
i mean, shadows aren't volumetric, they are projections on a surface. you can use a shrinkwrap modifier to get that kind of effect. that's what I have used but they are limited.

Thank you, but is there anything that works both for eevee and cycles?
@TheSicklyWizard2 жыл бұрын
I think this works for cycles too? It's just an add shader, I don't see why it wouldnt

Is there a way to make it appear more pixelated? I'm working on a PS1 style project and i want the transition between colors to be as sharp as possible, like an image texture set to "closest" in the blend mode so you can see every individual pixel clearly.
@TheSicklyWizard2 жыл бұрын
Are you looking for dithering? Because that's not really a viable option as a shader. I can get you color banding which breaks up the gradient into more visible colors

Try using textures instead of vertex coloring
@CrimsongCatDev3 жыл бұрын
So cool! I have a question tho: Would this workflow be compatible to import the material in some game engine? For example: if i wanted to make some effect like the save game rune on Vagrant Story (skullduggery.us/rants/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/vagrant_story_4.jpg)
@TheSicklyWizard3 жыл бұрын
Im not sure, im not a game dev. You might need to bake the vertex colors before exporting. That, or you could use a texture for added detail

They rely on the textures to create that effect with vertex lighting that creates a "Light Bleeding" effect off the ground.
@adamp39883 жыл бұрын
This effect should work if your engine supports vertex colors, additive blend modes, and transparency. That's all very common, so it should work fine! As for your screenshot, it looks like they achieved that by doing this, but using a uv-mapped texture for the color instead of a solid one. I hope this helps!
