That was epic mate. A solid adventure, speccy scenery and some great editing. Loved the quick zoomed in cuts. Hats off the Luke for doing swagman style. That would have been brutal carrying that swag up those mountains. 😂 You boys both earned that beer at the end. I’m currently in my tent, camping on the edge of a cliff in the blue mountains and managed to watch this masterpiece with one bar of 4g. Shoulda just saw the sunset I had. It was a proper nature emergency.
@TheSillySwagman

Hahaha one bar of 4G. That sounds like me down here in Lime Bay in Tassie. Doing exactly the same 🤣 Just watched Xanders bloody long vid in the lowest quality possible. Still excellent haha Thanks though mate, I appreciate it. I definitely had fun with those grainy zooms. I was actually in tears while editing a couple of those tbh 😂 Hope you got some good shots of that sunset brother! Enjoy!

Thank you for advocating for respect for our bushland and shared camping grounds. it's amazing that we even need to speak about bush etiquette but it seems like many still don't get the picture. It's just so un-Australian. Loved the hour-long format by the way.
@TheSillySwagman
@TheSillySwagman 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Kaylah. And yes, it’s sad, unfortunately I’m not sure what it even means to be “Australian” these days. Our culture towards the bush is actually pretty average as much as we like to hype up our bushman/swagman history. Those days are long gone. It’s a cultural thing for sure. I’ve been full time on the road for nearly 6 months now and the amount of childish 40 year olds I see ruining campgrounds is unbelievable. So it’s not just the kids either. Crazy! Anyway, enough of a rant for now 😂 Thank you for watching 🙏

I’m a 76 (& a half!) Y. O. Woman from west Aussie and usually don’t watch KZbin’s as long as this one, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for taking us along. I also watch Scotty’s Gone walkabout. Haven’t watched The Bearded Bushranger yet, but looking him up now. Just wish I was fit enough to do even just a little. At one time I wanted to do a bit of the Bibulmum Track which goes from Perth to Albany - but I never did get round to it. Look it up. If you come this way at least do some of it. Once again, thanks. Australia is a wonderful place. ❤

I’m absolutely amazed at the stamina of Luke negotiating all that bushbashing with the seperate bed roll on a sling. That would have pissed me off in a very short space of time. Great effort by you both. Leith

Hahahaha so bloody well put 😂😂 I’m right there with you mate. It reminded me so much of my time in the army, carrying some extra section stores or weapon system, hanging off a shoulder or strapped awkwardly to the pack and having it get caught on every single branch imaginable while it all weighs about 40 kilos 😂😂 He was giving me ptsd every time I turned back to check on him haha!

Thanks Fiona. Yeah that’s what I thought, too. It really was such a slog I thought a short vid wouldn’t do it justice, and like you said a lot of people want to be taken on an adventure and see things that maybe they’re not able to themselves. A bit over 45 years ago ,at the age of 15 yrs old I did this exact walk , came up from the Wellington River n walked Howitt Rd to Gantner hut . I at that age I too felt almost spiritual feeling towards this whole area , we called it gods country too . Views for a lifetime and memories to feed the old brain till this day . Loved your narration and filming , again thx , cheers from Melbourne.

You're in my backyard Mattsy. Back in the 50s my grandfather lead a survey party on horse back that were surveying a route from a road below the snowline between north east Victoria and Gippsland. He is buried along with my grandmother and my father on the dargo high plains. I grew up in those hills.

Oh mate, how unreal is that. The idea of being out in a place like that on horseback… that’s bloody impressive. That’s a pretty incredible history to be a part of mate. 🙏

How the effing effity eff did Luke @TheBeardedBushranger manage to do that with that kit? That man is crazy/a machine! His 'the coffee went through me like a freight train' will stick with me for a while. Mattsy, it hurts me to the depths of my soul to give compliments, but that was about as good as KZbin gets. I may have had a drink or two though... Cheers to you. And that Shaggy Scalycap on yer head. Oh, and I misheard Luke at first on his telling of the Button Man. The Butt Man would have been a very different story.

“Hurts me to the depths of my soul” 🤣🤣🤣 Well thanks for enduring that while you paid me a very generous compliment Pete haha! I have absolutely no idea how Luke didn’t decide to just burn his swag in the campfire along with his oilskin jacket before the end of that trip 😂 Thanks for watching mate!

I could have sworn I had already watched this one and commented, but I think it must have been Luke's video I watched. Anyway, it's always great to see a trip done from two perspectives. Oh, and that section you walked through with all the cut timber... I wonder, who was the poor bastard that lugged the chainsaw up there? 😆
@TheSillySwagman
@TheSillySwagman 2 ай бұрын
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the cut trees 😂😂 Surely a chopper just dumped it for him haha! And yeah, it would’ve been Luke’s video. He did a beautiful job of that.

Haha, some of your darker humor coming through in this edit Silly. 4:10, I know that tune 😂 It is really interesting to see you and Luke @TheBeardedBushranger side by side, taking a very different approach to each other. I relate to both, so it was like both my inner perspectives out in front of me. On the one side was a military-inspired, contemporary approach with elements of heritage. Not too far out with the glow pink plastic.. nice and subdued, realistic, fitting the times with the timelessness. Then there's the admirable re-enactment of a romantic history. A living historian, keeping knowledge and experience of the past, holding a light there so we don't lose sight of where we've come from. Luke did it tough, hey. I could see that more so in your video than in his. I respect and appreciate the effort. I would've loved to have seen a discussion between you, about your different approaches, acknowledging the difficulty of the old, the benefits of the new, imagining somewhere in between. You did a great job capturing the scenery and legs of the journey. Isn't it a spectacular range! You'll be seeing more like that in Tazzy soon, I imagine. Western Arthur's? See if you can find the scorched earth patch where I burnt my tent down, me in it! That was the moment I started looking into the past, pre plastic era. I reckon that poo in the fireplace was left by The Button Man! It looked like a freshy too. He was laying the ribbon, both pink plastic and white paper, trying to mess you up, lead you down the wrong way. Couple of KZbinrs bringing in the crowds.. he needed to make his presence known. 😂 Anyway, nice video, a pleasure to watch. I like the dynamic and balance between you and Luke. Regards, Leigh

Hey mate! Lovely bit of feedback and food for thought. I really like the idea of a catchup with Luke to discuss both sides of the experience. Pros and cons etc. I’ve got something in the rough stages of planning which I think that could work really well on. And yes! I shall be enjoying the epic ranges here in Tassie in the not too distant future 🙏 That sounds like a hell of a story with the tent. 😳 Probably right about the button man, too hahaha No doubt 🤣 Thanks for watching mate! Speak soon

Hahaha he sure is a tough fella 🤣 I’m glad you felt you were apart of the journey! I think that’s why I wanted to make this one a little longer, it was a longer trip and it was a battle, I felt a short one would take too much away from the reality of the experience haha
