Yes toy rotation! I also do a semi Montessori approach. I have a cube shelf like yours. I pick one activity for each shelf and store it in a a shallow basket. Like a puzzle and then the next cube be something different. This makes it easy for my kid. And so she can see what she has to play with. Along with that she has her kitchen and a spot for her kitchen accessories. Blocks and her little people. And book shelf.

Also, I saw a KZbin video on a toy system in which you out all toys away and take out one bucket or bin, at a time, like tou mentioned and I admire that. I jsit don’t have space. I think that’s a good idea. I get very bad anxiety from toy clutter… kinda want to throw all the toys out. Lol

I am on the declutter train as well. We consider our family minimalist but things just make their way in. So it’s time to reset. Don’t keep toys for your grandkids lol 😂 it’ll be over 20 years. Maybe keep a small box of special things. We do you rotation. I wouldn’t put the toys up so the kids have to ask, just give them their own box of toys & rotate every month or something that suits you guys so it stays interesting without buying more toys. We also have a 1in 1 out for almost everything.

For the stairs we put baskets at the top and bottom of the stairs. We call them the “don’t belong baskets”. 😅 I set an alarm for 7:30pm every night and that’s the time when we all empty the contents of the baskets and put all of the items in their correct place.

Decluttering is so helpful….it makes a huge difference in your daily straightening up. I have always been a declutterer. Even before it was “fashionable.” It is a regular household activity. If you come across an item and you are not sure if you should keep it or not….put it in container downstairs and if you don’t need it in the next six months…..donate it. Good luck

I loved when you took a minute during your cleaning to pet the dog. Animals (dogs and cats) are unable to help with the cleaning and I think that when the owner takes a moment to pet them when cleaning that it makes them feel valued and appreciated, and perhaps not like a burden.

I soak lemon/orange peels or pine needles in vinegar for a couple weeks then use that. 50/50 with water for day to day, 100% vinegar for the super messy stuff. You can add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise for added scents. The peels and pine actually have benefits though. I grab my vinegar way more than my thieves cleaner too.

I've seen a few people do the toy rotation thing. I think it makes sense bc as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder... Not just for people! I think in the laundry room keep the deep sink.. You may regret getting rid of it later? Maybe get a stacked washer and dryer unit for more space? Just a 🤔 thought? When my dishwasher was broken I used it for a stacking space for clean dishes as I washed so I didn't have to look at them on the counter when I was done! 😂 Have a great day Allie! 💖

I have 3 kids (now 22,26,27) but when they were young (in reality still now) I have baskets on the stairs, one for each child. The key is follow through, more on your part to create a routine for when the kids will take their baskets upstairs and put the things away. Otherwise it ends up you doing it but at least it is nicer looking while on the stairs.

I went back to the most basic - Soap & hot water. Peroxide, rubbing alcohol for disinfecting. (Not in a concoction). Soap and hot water are very effective for most things - especially if you're cleaning regularly. (I use dish soap or shampoo. For everything - counter tops, floors.... You could add some drops of essential oil if you want for scent or for disinfecting. If you use shampoo that smells good already).

We use only one cup per person each day…it makes a big difference in the clutter!
@MealsMadeAtHome2 жыл бұрын
From the beginning I’ve had a one cup rule with my kids. One sippy cup and only water allowed away from the table, fill with milk for meals and wash after. My 4 year old now uses a regular cup and I use a really good quality metal insulated cup for travel and outside. With my 6 month old I’ll do the same. It saves SO much stress mess and clutter and instead of having many low quality cups that leak, we were able to put the money into a quality kids cup. I also teach my kids to clean as they go. I started involving in cleanup when my oldest was 8 months old and we clean as we go! Having a place for every toy (rather than a toy box) helps him know where things go and he does great cleaning up this way. We do mid day cleanups too if need be. I do a toy rotation instead and it keeps mess to a minimum. I wasn’t tidy before kids but since then I’ve really found a system that helps my sanity and I can’t go back, it’s all habit!
