As someone who lives in the mountains and has seen many a mountain lodge, a bare-bones, purely wood walls/floors, weird mismatched beds and rugs are all perfectly accurate to these types of buildings because they’re usually furnished over long periods of time with stuff just collected by the owners/left by visitors. Absolutely love this build!

A very sloped roof or an A-framed roof is for the snow to run off. Different from a normal residential house sloped room. If you have a normal roof, where there is a severe amount of snow, the snow will collect, and the weight from the snow will cause the roof to collapse in, not for high winds, haha 😊
@anjafrohlich11706 күн бұрын
Funny, all roofs are sloped or a-frame where I live. So those are what is considered a 'normal' roof here. Ig what you consider a normal roof gives away in what kind of area you live.
@SLorraineE5 күн бұрын
I think it's the angle of the slope that makes the difference. Just because it has a little bit of slope doesn't mean it's slopped enough for the snow to not build up. Like where I've lived in England and the US the houses have sloped roofs, but designed more for rain and general tree debris and the snow we get definitely stays on the roof
@taylorc.12125 күн бұрын
@SLorraineE it depends where you live. I live in the US in Idaho. I live very close to the Teton mountains/Yellowstone/island park, and they get dumped with snow. So an A-framed house or a sloped roof is necessary for the cabins to have here for the amount of snow we get. This is mostly necessary for the cabins located close to the mountain/woods, not just normal residents' housing. The amount of snow isn't just a few inches but a few feet of snow, so it will absolutely cause your roof to collapse. Since he is replicating a build from a snow location, that is most likely the reason for the roof design. He was talking about the very sloped roof, not the normally roof sloped that the majority of residential houses have. A very sloped roof like an A-frame roof is helpful for extreme snow. I wasn't talking about a normal roof, I addressed his comment about the extreme roof slopes on the side of his build. I hope this makes sense.

Yes, you need clouds for snow. Snow is rain. It's just below 0 degrees Celsius. The more gray and heavy clouds the more snow will come down. Also, if the sky is clear it's going to be very very cold. Snow needs to have some water in it if you want to build snow man or snow castle. About -2C is awesome. Snow doesn't clump together when it gets colder but instead it turns into powder snow that glitters like diamonds. Hello from Finland!

This phenomenon is often referred to as "diamond dust" or "ice crystals." It typically occurs in very cold environments, such as polar regions or high altitudes, where the air is saturated with moisture.” - I never knew 😊

I couldn't resist. When you talked about the why of using wood at around 10.53, I had to google. Yes, you are correct that it wood be easier to transport wood up the mountain. I wood (ah man, i can't resist the puns either) like to add some extra information. Using (thick) wood also helps with keeping the building structure warm. warmer than bricks or concrete, at least. Wood has the natural ability to store heat when it is warmer(during the day), and radiate heat when it is colder (at night). So, it helps with keeping energy costs low, it will heat up more quickly.

I forgot about the onsens!!! Idk if he would have room for the outdoor one since this is a relatively small lot, but it would be pretty cool if he made the foundation a “fake foundation” and actually made it a 3 story building with no official foundation. 1st story an indoor onsen, 2nd story the common area with kitchen, dining, and living, then the 3rd story the bedrooms. You would still enter in the common area, then use columns to recreate the stilted decking since you can’t actually use foundations on different levels.

Somehow the roof does not look right. Coming from a very snowy area, it looks too flat? I guess if they have roof access, they could push the snow off, but we usually slant roofs a little more so gravity helps it slide off. Then again, I don't run a resort, so don't know the safety parameters for roof building for a resort.
