Was really great to see the process of the head refurb by Steve. It's amazing to see how a job that is known to be bloody awful for the average mechanic, let alone DIYer can be done with such speed while maintaining great quality by a skilled tradesperson with the right tools. Was great that the simple tool was shown as well. I really do enjoy seeing you guys work, but mixing that with footage from specialists really sets the videos apart. People often rag on each other for "built not bought" to the nth degree if not everything is DIY'ed, but it really does show that there are certain things that yes we or you guys could do yourselves, but to get a great quality job done in a short time and the same, less or perhaps slightly more money (if you put a price on your time), you're better off to get an old mate who specialises in that job to do it for you. The content about reco'ing the heating and cooling system bits (rad, a/c core etc.) was the same. Yeah you could put replacement parts in or do a dodgy (or maybe decent job who knows) on the parts, but there are people who specialise in it and will do great work for you and are clearly nice enough blokes as they let you film and are happy to explain stuff either on camera, or for you guys to voice over in the edit. Thanks as always for the enjoyable, informative and quality content, and big thanks to Steve at Maroochy Cylinder Heads and the guys at Noosa Radiators for their expertise and info.

Steve was the epitome of efficiency, Man it helps when you have all the tools... and thousands of cylinder heads under your belt... Just epic, watching this Bloke work!! Said it before.. I have a real soft spot for the 4A-GE family. 1st ever engine build back in the mid 90's... The "G" in the engine designation is Yamaha..across all their engines too.... since like late 60's from memory.. meh.. Was great watching the "Fun" doing the shims... memories... Series 1's were similar but over bucket shims... big coin looking thing on top of the bucket. Apparently, you could change with the cams in, if you were really patient lol.. I did what WDY did.. take them all out again and change them and remeasure... long time ago.. Really love this build guys... Quad's are going to sound biblical at 9000rpm!!!

4:42 any Toyota head that is a "G" classification ie. GE or GTE instead of FE, is made by Yamaha. It's the way Toyota has done things since their partnership with Yamaha in the 1960's

If a Toyota engine has -GE/GTE/GZE at the end of the designation, it's got a wide valve angle performance head. FE is narrow valve angle for fuel economy

It's interesting to watch this stuff as a machinist, seeing the completely specialized tooling for engine work. It's clear how much better the machine at the two minute mark is at decking off the head than using a regular mill, but the number of other sorts of jobs you could use that for seems pretty small.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my b6ze from the trusty MX5, and this video was an awesome bit of extra knowledge. Getting the head back together this weekend, the last engine I rebuilt was on my Austin 1300 so this twin cam, efi motor is a little bit more complicated. Great learning curve, and hey if it all goes wrong at least these engines are a dime a dozen.
