Today on The Skid Factory We're at Dandy Engines with the crew from Harrop Engineering to put the New TVS2650 Supercharger Kit through its paces on the engine dyno but unfortunately there was an engine failure.
Luckily Frank and the team at Dandy Engines had us covered and we managed to rebuild the engine within 8 hours of the failure!
We can't thank Lou, Frank and all the staff at Dandy engines enough, Without their motivation we would've been left without an engine and the Harrop Program wouldn't have moved forward!

Absolute legends! But Frank did notice that the RPM had dropped suddenly before that fateful pull. So he suspected something was wrong. It’s easy to dismiss it as “well if he knew, why’d he still send it” but honestly, pressing on was the only thing to do. But yeah, really lucky to not have so little damage and better yet, having such a dedicated crew at Dandy to do that entire rebuild in short order.

Seeing Al eventually get comfortable with a camera on him, seeing Woodys videography skills growing outrageously, the set backs, the laughs and the lemons squash’s. I learn something new every time. I know this project is partly Al's car and partly testing the prototype supercharger, so it's an important project, but the fact his *instant* response to finding out it was - miraculously - just the cam shaft was to say "we can wash it, throw it back together and have it ready tonight" and straight away called up a local guy, got the parts and got it organised in an instant. That's not just experience, that's some serious passion to go with the knowledge and not something you can find anywhere. You're bang on, the guys who can work at a craft for years and years and still be that excited and passionate are worth every penny

@andersjjensen

When someone like Frank, who's seen pretty much every engine failure mode in existence, has a legit hard time wrapping his head around how this didn't just mince everything into little metal shards.... yeah, it's time to break out the word "miraculous" for sure. And the more I try to wrap my head around it myself, the less sense it makes. That piece of camshaft dropped towards the sump.. and hit the crank in such a way that it flew up the bore... without scratching anything or get pinched.. yet somehow instantly stalled the engine so it didn't get shaken up and down inside the bore..

That really is the best way to look at it. Too many people blame the engine/chassis dyno operator for breaking their engines. When in fact all they did is find the shortcoming already there. Truly is 'lucky' when it happens in a shop like this as I suspect its now built to a level beyond what was originally in scope.

Replaced a ton of parts, made it all shiny, just to find, after pulling it back into the shop, that I had a trail of fluid behind me. Might just be the power steering fluid leaking everywhere from a bad seal on the steering box. Haven't been able to find time to get it back on the lift, but I have a bad feeling that I'm going to be replacing seals on the T56. All things considered, my day went a lot better than what was seen here. Great video. Love to see it.

That engine run including the sudden stop would make a great ring tone lol. John must be pissed his work was ruined by that stinking camshaft!

Wow, just wow. What an amazing episode, share this far and wide, let's get it around the world to reflect what gets done in Australia by Australians for Australians. Your all a credit to the Australian industry. And Woody and Al go alright as well....

Jesus that was wholesome. I'd ship the man my engines from Canada after seeing what he did for you two. Seems blessed with the whole crew there too. Looking forward to seeing what kind of power numbers she makes with that new single piece camshaft lol

It’s my first time seeing a camshaft exploding like that, but even more impressive is the low amount of damage that resulted from that.

One of my favourite vids of late, just awesome to watch a big engine shop rally and pros eat up the work and do what they do best. Hats off to Dandy Engines

Unbelievable to see a failure like that with such little damage. Mad respect to frank and the team for going to extra mile and getting it back up and running so quickly. Love the content and have from the start, great to see the ups as well as the downs. The older you get the more you appreciate the time people give you rather than things, frank and the team are the sort of people everyone needs round them

Great Episode! loved the way everyone stayed calm and methodical about working out what went wrong. (maybe a few moths soaking in the lifter oil bucket would have prevented this...Haulass Garage tech tip)

This has got to be an advertisement for "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" - Frank looked like he was absolutely in the zone slamming that thing back together. Awesome

What an unreal effort, Frank and the Dandy crew showing their amazing professionalism. Unfortunate circumstances but what a way to demonstrate their abilities and the Aussie spirit to get it and get it sorted! If anything it made it a better episode for us viewers to witness! Thanks legends!
