Great video - thanks for this. I know it's a bit old, but just got my hands on an S2K, wanted to run a square track setup with 17x9 +60 wheels with 255 tires. Everything I'm reading online about it tells me that it would require rolling, which I don't want to do. I think I'll follow your lead here and run a staggered 225F 255 R track setup on stock wheels

I just made a set of wheels at 17x8.5 +50 for my S2000 and am running 235/40/17 AD08Rs and no rolling.

which car from your collection is your favorite stock for stock... and then with mild mods.. and then fully tuned? Favorite might be different compared to what you think is best (car)... so maybe if you can distinguish that too. Like your favorite might be RX-8 for stock but what you believe is the best car for stock might be S2000. Appreciate your opinions!
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
Let's see, favorite stock would be between AP1 S2000 and Z4 M. Favorite mild mods would be S2000, RX-8 and FD. Favorite fully tuned would be FD and Miata, however keep that my Miata's and black FD are my only fully tuned cars. S2000 is getting there. The rest are relatively mild. At the end of the day, they are all awesome. I don't have any cars that I don't love, well except for my shitbox Suburbans :)

Can you run the 16x8 +38 on stock suspension on the NB??

Nice. As a tire/wheel nerd I really appreciate this video. Good points on too much grip on the street, something to think about. Why didn't you go for 225 width on RX-8 and less offset to keep the same poke? Would have less grip and more fun. Also what do you think about 17 inch on RX-8, same as RX-7? I've read that more sidewall gives more grip and more predictable let off. Won't look as aggressive ofc. Thanks
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
I wanted a narrower wheel and tire combo, but wheel selection for something with a nice aggressive concave, let alone 5 spoke wheel becomes very limited very quickly. For the price, I couldn't beat these wheels or find anything that would provide anywhere near the visual impact these have. The RX-8 has significantly bigger wheel wells than the FD, so 17s look really small and out of place on them. For the FD, 17s are perfect. The tire compound is the number one factor in determining grip and predictability. After that width. I would pick a sidewall that suits your gearing needs and/or clearance needs and the compound for your grip requirements. Chunkier sidewalls as well as stiffer sidewalls do protect your wheel lips better over potholes too.

Hello! I have s2000 and I would like to install Front Bumper Lip like you have on the red s2000. Tell me where can I buy it? Is it sold in color?
@aeronovapro

on ebay a wide range of prices, externally the same, but the price is from $ 40 to $ 1500. Help me choose, I'm confused.

The red S2000 has an Amuse R1 front bumper. It is a complete bumper, not just a lip. They do not come in color. Places like Evasive Motorsports and Go Tuning can order them.

Nice! My (stock) Miata is at the shop to get new brake lines (because I can't be arsed and I hate brake fluid) and 195/50 R15 Hankook Evo1 tyres... frankly because they are inexpensive and I heard they are an allround OK tyre for warm weather. I'm going to do my first trackday in two weeks and maybe a few autocross events later. Let's see how they will hold up!

Cool topic Quinn. I know exactly what you are talking about. I bought my Z3 3.0i two years ago. It came with only 25k miles and had the original OEM 2001 tires! I knew I needed to get a new set for safety, but I wanted to drive it for a bit. Those tires were hilariously non-grippy, but it was so much fun! I could drift and powerslide at will. I felt like a freakin HERO! When I upgraded I went to a square set of Apex Arc-8 8.5" wheels with Pilot SuperSport 245/40 R17s. On one hand I Love these tires because they grip like MAD. I can pull right about 1G on the road if I try hard enough. I can break them loose in 1st fairly easy, but 2nd now requires much more effort. Since all of my driving is on backroads and no track time I'm thinking I may have "over tire'd" her. What tire would you recommend for the Z3 @ ~230hp and 2900 lbs. if I want to be able to play more at lower speeds but still be able to stick when I want to? Thanks.

Honestly, you might want to try the Continental DWS 360 TW that I have on my Z4M. Plenty of grip for the street but a nice balance where you can still hoon if you want to. Plus they are relatively inexpensive.

“Sitting in my garage... books are important, but you know what’s more important... CARS!” - Tai lopez 😂 Great collection & info! I agree with your driving philosophy & usage. What do you think about a 225 17x9+45 square set up on a s2k as far as feeling through the canyons?
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 5 жыл бұрын
RIght now I have 225 F and 245 R on my AP1 on 7.5" and 8.5" respectively. The setup fits perfectly under stock body work. I do kind of want to run a square setup however for more oversteer hooligan action lol.
@DirtDude117
@DirtDude117 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the tires. The Bridgestone S04's F:215/45R17 & R:245/40R17 are the same size as ContiExtreme's in 225/45 and 255/40 respectively. I personally prefer that setup for street driving and using a Eibach upgraded front Sway bar with the S2000 "UK" alignment. I do have to adjust for on track to have more camber up front when I run 255s up front. I run these on a set of AP2v1 factory wheels and have an extra pair of rears for a squared setup. I do run a +5mm hubcentric spacer up front for them. I pick RS4s on these and use them on the rear while picking the Conti's rear up front. The RS4s wear like iron on track and I would recommend a full set for a track tire if you have a track wheel. It's not super competitive but it's faster and consistent than just about any other combination while working as dual purpose street+autocross+track.

YEAH been waiting for this video, I love setting tires up in Forza, might not be a real car but PSI and camber are HUUUUUUUGE. The telemetry in that game is super helpful, after 3 laps on Catalunya the tires are warmed up and I can set camber based on the inner, middle, and outer temperatures during a sweeping corner. If you run a high grip setup on the white FD, are you going to stagger the front and rear width like 255 front and 275 rear or something like that, maybe on 17in wheels or 18in? Not sure what power is going in there or what downforce you will run but it would be sick!
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
FD's work really well with square setups and that is what I am going to continue to run. That was also how Mazda engineered the suspension.

@ garage Quinn motors On the Fd I am looking at getting some rpf1 sbc wheels, but they only come in +45 offset. Is that too much?
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
If they are a 9 or 9.5 width with that offset, they will be sunken in more than my 9.5 +38s on my FD, but will still fit no less. Stock wheels IIRC are 16x8 +42.

I had really shitty Ironman all season tires on a NB miata that I no longer own. So much fun. Getting the tail out on U-turns was almost irresistible. Still I would never do it again because it ended up getting me into my only accident ever when someone two cars ahead hit the brakes hard for no reason on the freeway and I ended up locking up all four wheels in the dry and warm weather on these shit tires.
