Yeah they didn't do it cuz of all the crashes, they did it cuz of railroad junk (the bridge is a rail bridge)

@@datguymiller I think it's a little of both. They were relaying the rail bed and since they had the opportunity, went ahead and raised the bridge to hopefully avoid more crashes.

@@bluepythonproductions They DID something about it. They installed a system which recognizes overheight trucks, causing a huge LED sign to light up, as well as traffic lights going red. People are apparently still ignoring it...

That bridge is right outside my dad's office. The crashes happen about once a month, and when they do, all the guys in the office start laughing. I've been there when it's happened, and it is LOUD.

Haha...those top rails on the truck box were aluminum, but they pierced steel! Aluminum has great compressive strength, and the steel's tensile strength was no match. :)

What I found most impressive was with the first truck at 2:29 all 4 wheels "jumped" clear off the ground. The second truck did such a huge wheelie at 6:01 I wonder, if the "right" lower speed was used, would the truck would have done such a huge wheelie that it jammed partway through with the floor of the box hitting the roof...

Years later, even after being given new safety warnings, signal controls, and even being raised 8 inches to 12 foot 4, the 11 foot 8 bridge is still feasting on trucks today.
