The shingles were ingenious. Hopefully the emery will last through a season or two. It's a Fine feeder IMHO! Thanks, ~PJ

Thanks! The shingles are inspired by dollhouse builders. The feeder was outside for two winters now and it's holding up just fine. The sandpaper looks like new, I think it will outlive the roof on my house :)

+Roo ! I tried replying you directly but it give some error. Thanks for watching this video after a year, it was one of my least popular projects, but I liked it. Finger was hurt prior to this project, on the larger table saw, but not while working but while being stupid. Looking at the video again today I realize it looks like a safety parody, LOL! I only used exterior grade wood glue and the feeder is fine after it's second winter. Glue it's very strong on it's own, but you have to be patient, glue some, clamp, wait, glue some more, like a puzzle. Staples or nails speed up the process but I don't think they add much extra strength.

I love the saw too! Can we see a video of that as well?
@TheSmallWorkshop9 жыл бұрын
Thank you Brian! The saw is based on a lathe, like an attachment, so the video won't be very useful for those who don't have this particular kind of lathes. But I plan to make a new, similar miniature saw from scratch, with blade height adjustment, and will make a video of that for sure.

What a sweet thing to do! Great project you did there!! All I did this winter was to look at the little birds and wonder what on earth they're pecking for instead of taking some real action to help them go through the winter. :(

Hi ..... Very surprised to hear that this video wasn't that popular .... I think it's great. I think the roof idea is really smart and looks good. Can I ask, I'm from the UK and we get wet cold winters. Did you weather seal the sandpaper shingles in any way?
@TheSmallWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
No I did not and it stood outside the last two winters and they were harsh here (Eastern Europe). The shingles show no wear. Only the plywood cracked a little, but overall it still has a few years left in it even without new paint. If I take care of it it will probably last a decade or so.

About the mini table saw? Is it a modified Proxxon lathe? Or something else, never seen a proxxon model like that before. Thanks for the video!
@TheSmallWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
It's a homemade attachment for the proxxon lathe. Basically a blade on a shaft between centers. And a table on top.

Don't stop here! Try to invest and buy at least some semiprofessional tools. It would be a shame not to invest in your talents. Congratulations, nice feeder!
@TheSmallWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
Multumesc Eugen! I buy tools all the time, way too many if you ask my wife! But most of them are at least 50 years old, so they need some refurbishing before they can be of any use. Main problem is I don't have the space to put them in also I don't have the time to repair them properly. As I grow this channel I'll probably put more time into the workshop. Speaking of talent, I really like your baby bed, you should try to make videos of your future projects. It's a shame that, given our tradition in woodworking, we don't have too many woodworkers on youtube.

Hard to say, snow melted about the same time I finished it, so the birds had options :) I've seen some using it, especially in the morning, but not as many as I would've expected.
