Just people who stop listening to new music say it's dead. I think it happens because they discover something good through a mechanism for discovery, and that mechanism is the thing that becomes dull. Think of the Mercury Music prize. I remember as a young Boy I heard the Beatles for the first time and I although I was so young I knew that they were going to change music and perhaps change the world. Then many years later my daughter came home from college and wanted me to hear a band called Radiohead and I had that same feeling again. Now I am old and have thought lightning does not strike twice let alone three times but it has. This album, or release or whatever it is called these days should be considered a masterpiece studied in art schools. Sonic Rembrandt’s. Of course it is so antithetical to what is popular at the moment it may get overlooked and I’m sure The smile would be fine with that. Art can be that way.

Also, I know they will never see this, but this music got me off my butt and into my studio covered in dust to create. The studio that is not me covered in dust, although I might as well be. I have been writing music since I was 12 and to this day my biggest and most loyal fan is my cat. While everyone else thinks I suck, which may not be a bad conclusion,I never tried not to suck, my cat has my back. God now I am older than methuselah and trying to write and record seems like rehab. Try as a non drummer writing drums. Tedious and yeah sucky. No musicians to help me. I found a good drummer who is ancient too but he wanted to only record his songs and sing and really he was god awful. I never told him but just faded out of communication with him poor sod.

"Under Our Pillows" by The Smile delves into the concept of hidden desires, suppressed emotions, and the societal pressure to share everything. The lyrics suggest that there are delights and soft hymns waiting to be discovered beneath our pillows, symbolizing the innermost thoughts and feelings we keep hidden from the world. The song explores the idea of releasing these hidden emotions, allowing oneself to experience both the sting and the giving that comes with vulnerability. It also critiques the modern culture of oversharing, questioning whether everyone truly has something meaningful to share. Ultimately, the song urges listeners to hold onto their authentic selves and resist the pressure to conform. Song Meaning The emotional journey portrayed in "Under Our Pillows" takes the listener from a place of hidden desires and suppressed emotions to a sense of vulnerability and finally, a rebellion against societal expectations. The song evokes a feeling of curiosity and anticipation as it suggests that there are delights and soft hymns waiting to be discovered under our pillows. This leads to a sense of introspection and contemplation, as the lyrics mention a "white loss of feeling" and being "ready and willing" to explore what lies beneath. As the song progresses, there is a mix of emotions experienced, including both the sting and the giving that comes with vulnerability. The bridge expresses a sense of desperation, with the plea "Don't let them take me!" highlighting the fear of losing one's true self. The outro brings a feeling of rebellion and defiance, emphasizing the need to wipe clean the episodes and embrace a sense of make-believe. Throughout the song, there is a constant tension between hiding and revealing emotions, ultimately leading to a desire to break free from societal expectations. Quotes 1. "Such delights wait under your pillows" - This quote sets the tone for the song, suggesting that there are hidden joys and desires within us that are waiting to be discovered. It speaks to the idea of exploring the depths of our emotions and embracing the pleasures that may be found there. 2. "Nowadays everyone's for sharing" - This quote reflects the societal pressure to constantly share our lives and experiences. It critiques the modern culture of oversharing, questioning whether everyone truly has something meaningful to share or if it has become a shallow and obligatory act. 3. "Don't let them take me! Try to convert me with a voice I can only see though" - These lines convey a sense of desperation and resistance. The speaker fears losing themselves to the expectations and pressures of others, pleading not to be taken away or converted. It highlights the importance of maintaining one's own voice and identity. 4. "Episodes wiped clean, wiped clean, wiped clean" - This repetition of the phrase "wiped clean" suggests a desire to start anew and let go of past experiences or traumas. It represents a longing for a fresh beginning and a sense of renewal.

I wonder if Thom Yorke will ever comprehend what he's done to Music and Music Lovers (Us). A long time ago he blew our minds, we fell under the spell of what ever it was that fulfilled what the World needed whilst not knowing we needed what we got. We didn't expect it and he didn't set out to cater for a void none of us knew existed. It just happened, out of the blue. We were moved and he reluctantly became a God. We were freaked out by his output and in turn we freaked him out with our overwhelming appreciation/adulation. Neither his life, or ours would ever be the same again. We worshipped and elevated him to another level. Thankfully he continues to be himself, create his sound which feeds our addiction, always anticipating what he is going to release next. And as always, we are never let down or try to guess what he has up his sleeve. I say this with all credit due to Radiohead's other members and producers who, luckily appeared in our lifetime. I can imagine how in History the same could be said of those generations who went to hear Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Bach and Company's recitals.
