The standard output 5.0 really is just fine. I love my cougar XR7 5.0- k&N, new muffler, and detached intake "silencer"...just need mustang headers and perhaps dumps.

The standard output 5.0 is a dog compared to the high output. There are tutorials online (coolcats.net) on how to do the conversion - you can easily source the parts off ebay for a couple hundred bucks and have a much better running car after a weekend's work. I even saw a significant increase in gas mileage after the conversion as well (from 19 to 24).

One of the better one takes in a while. Bring the oddballs out. Thats what made this channel good at the start. Also nice to have an owner who can explain the ins and outs of their. This video was pretty informative I didn't know all those details about the chassis.

Love the oddball car reviews. All the Mustangs and WRXs are inexpensive and fast and all, but there is just something about these rare beasts that is just so much more cool. I hope to one day take a drive down and have Matt drive my own oddball car: a modified 1997 Alfa Romeo 155 V6. A really, really rare car with quite the racing heritage. Keep em coming Matt, especially these oddball cars. Cheers.

ScrappyCoco cheers man, and yes the glorious Busso is the reason I bought my 155. Best sounding V6, and best looking, of all time. Love that engine so much, when next year I shop for another toy, I have a 916 GTV 3.0 V6 on my watchlist for importing.

I'm an 88 Tbird lover. Definitely a sleeper. Love listening to the driver laugh at how surprised he is at how well it drives! I've gone a little overboard with mine running a Ford Motorsport R302 stroked to 347. Definitely not many 88 birds left out there except for grandma!

Love seeing some Fox Tbird love! I've got an 88 Thunderbird myself. Pumped the 5.0 up to about 260whp, swapped to a 5 speed, rear discs, front coil overs, Koni Yellows front and rear, Maximum Motorsports control arms front and rear etc. To the owner - spend the couple hundred bucks and do the HO conversion. It will wake that engine up for dirt cheap.

It's fun to see people still rocking these FOX TBirds! I've built 7 of them...all back in the early-mid 90's, and I REALLY miss em! All mine were 87 or 88 TBird Sports. First thing to go was the stock 5.0 and AOD in every one of them. Two of mine eventually ran stroker motors...331 and 347. The 331 got a 7lb ProCharger and lots of other expensive goodies. I wish I had thought of the IRS rear, but swapping in the stock TC rear with discs was all I needed. They handle amazingly well with the big 1.125" front roll bar! I've considered building another one, but finding a decent '88 Sport without a cracked dash and a gazillion miles if getting tough! Thanks for sharing your build!!

Talk about memories. Damn. I just looked and found I still had the spare keys for my old bird. I had an '87 in high school. Picked it up from a retired sales rep who bought it new with every option Ford offered. This thing was way ahead of it's time. This was back in '95. My first car purchase. He handed me every damn manual, repair book, how-to guide he had. I loved the automatic headlights, power everything that never failed and that motor never let me down. It wasn't too quick or good on gas. But I put about 250K on it before trading it in for my first Subie. Back then, it was all about audio and I worked at a shop in Lake Mary, FL so I ended up with a ton of JL and JBL gear, a bigger alternator, and way too much dynamat. The fact that it had dash, door, and rear deck openings made it incredible for soundstaging and imaging. Ran a couple of SEA 12's in the wheel well, sealed. Then a set of three 10w6's on an Xtant 1001d. Then a wall of 15s for a while. lol. It turned into the shop demo car for a while for the next shop I worked at. Anyways, this dude seems super chill and knowledgeable. His build is simple and looks fun to drive. Great episode!

The IRS on t-birds was great really cool to add it to one of these before the factory did on the next gen. I had a 91.5 5.0 sport when I was younger and had to argue it had IRS getting alignments. One place told me "the only rwd with that would be something like a Ferrari". Refused to even look to see if I was wrong or right. These were great cars with quite a few upgrades readily available made for mustangs, f150, crown Vic etc..
