On paper, the 2021 Kia Telluride Nightfall Edition is the most luxury bang you can get for the buck. It comes with loads of features and creature comforts, technology, 3 rows of seats, a crazy soft headliner, and even AWD. All of that for about $50,000. But a car is more than a spec sheet, right? How does it look, feel, and work in the real world? Is the 3rd row usable for full-sized humans? Watch and find out.

@@jayfxdx one thing, both of those are RWD platforms. So you're in the ballpark but still a little bit apples/oranges. Plus, for the explorer you'd really have to compare this engine to the 2.3 ecoboost to keep it fair, not the v6 which is turbocharged and significantly more engine than the 3.8NA Kia. You think one baby doesn't take up all that space until you go on a trip and have to haul the stroller, the pack and play, the diaper bag, the high chair, the toys....etc. Then there's the relatives that you see when you get there and all want to pile in and go somewhere. Space needs escalate quickly. We bought a 3 row SUV with one older daughter who was a travel ball softball catcher. That's enough gear that going cross country for tournaments we ended up with a roof carrier as well. Just for three of us on a week and a half trip. I very much like the Palisade and the Telluride. For the $$ it definitely gives consumers shopping the segment a great SUV to consider....masculine sytraight angle design, copious space, and not the typical dull egg-shape of most crossovers. Plus a 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty and 5-year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper. Matt's point on scrutiny with German SUV's long term tactile quality and finish is valid, because a Kia/Hyundai owner is probably more likely to buy their vehicle and hold it for 10+ years than your typical leasing "hey look at me, neighbor" Audi/MBenz/BMW customer.

At 7:00 when Matt said how great heavily sculpted seats are in high end cars, I gotta disagree - it depends on if that's what you want. I have a Cayenne - a taller standing SUV and those steal constructed bolsters are literally a pain in the ass every time I try to get in or out of the car. Even when driving they're far too restrictive. If it was a 911 it would be a different story. I think Zak got it right about suspension saying, "thank goodness it's soft, it's a luxurious SUV." Thumbs up to Kia for stepping up the design and quality of their vehicles. Yes, their designs are highly influenced of other luxury brands, but at least they are copying nice designs. Interesting comparing the Telluride and CX9, but what about the “””heavy hitters””” in the 3-row unibody import SUV segment: Highlander and Pilot? I know, unsexy and platforms due for a refresh-and not really the area for TST, but a $50k loaded Toyota or Honda both have high output 3.5L and they have proven durability track record. Zach mentions the CR-V (As a pilot owner, I understand how forgettable it is visually😆) and they nod at the highlander in passing. I think their impressions of the Mazda and Kia would probably change if they had more seat tine with these two. Or they would fall asleep with boredom of how close they all are in spec. I’m almost falling asleep typing this.

Love this thing, but its only for the American market. Not sold here as far as I know (Europe). KIA is huge here and the brand that hold its value the best because even second hand people will buy them because they have proven to be reliable and they are pretty safe as well and like most cars today well equipped. And as you noted, you get most things off the bat, dont need to go through a huge list of extra's. Feel like everyone I know drive a KIA... know a couple that just went from a diesel wagon with the DCT to a hybrid of the same car, never had an issue with them in 3 years and roughly 60.000 - 70.000 miles.

I guided my wife, but in the end I let her decide because she never owned a new car in her life and I wanted her to get what she wanted. She narrowed it down to the SX prestige Telluride and the Atlas SEL-P 4 motion R-line. We went with the Atlas. I might have gone Telluride but here's what we didn't like, hopefully it helps someone. In the top trim (SX) you can't option it with the second row bench like you can in lower trims. They force the captains chairs on you. They claim 7 person seating but no adults are going to fit good 3 wide in that 3rd row. If you have kids in car seats the Atlas has a superior 2nd row seat design that allows you to access the 3rd row without having to remove them. It not only tilts the backrest and sides, but it pivots on the front mounting point. Lastly, last year the dealers were trying to get a minimum of a $5k premium over sticker LOL. For a Kia. There are some other differences too that are personal preference.

Deserve is a bit strong. They need to "earn" those sales. This was a simple test review. But it'll take years of long term testing to reveal how good the S.Koreans are getting. One thing I have never understood about the CX-9 is the appeal as a three row crossover. The third space is tight, has the lowest cargo capacity when the third row is up and there are no A/C vents in the third row. It is fine as a large two row - but terrible if you need to put real humans in the third row.

You overlooked the Lincoln Aviator, at Reserve or lower trim, as a competitor. These compare pretty favorably to those. I was cross-shopping them last Jan. Clearly Matt or Zack don’t have kids. You need the most room in your car when the kids are under 2. A basic road trip requires high chair, playpen, stroller, probably specific food or feeding/pumping supplies, diapers, etc etc. Downsize to a regular two row once they’re 5+ because you don’t have to pack all the stuff around anymore. Only critique on a nice review

@mattlloyd1848 3 жыл бұрын
@@zackklapman3569 you’ll see when the time comes for you. A 3 row suv is probably overkill as the vehicle of choice for family of 3, I agree. But I also think the cargo space that a folded down 3rd row affords will be utilized quite a bit and in some cases will be cherished compared to what you’d get in a 2 row. Also, sometimes grandma and grandpa want to come, or maybe some friends, depending on the adventure. In those cases a 3rd row is nice to have. Necessary? No. But nice. The only people that NEED a 3 row suv are families of 5+ and that’s kind of rare. Much rarer than 3 row suv sales would indicate. The whole point of what I was getting at was that from 0-2years old the amount of crap you have to pack is insane. Certainly enough to put yourself in the market for a big suv. We pack far less now as a family of 4 with a 7 and 9 year old than we did as a family of 3 with a new baby. Anyway, I really enjoy the content. The two-takes are a great update and the podcast is fun. Crew shows are my favourite - you’re funny as hell and offer unique insight. Keep it up.

I’m value minded so the Telluride and Palisade to a bit better extent really scream value to me. I haven’t seen anything else in this size segment that’s gives you more or even equal for the same or less 💴. I see creaky Benzes at just 4 years and ashy interior bmws around the same timeframe. Not sure owning one would give me any mote long term confidence than the Korean suvs. That Highlander is uninhabitable in the third row if you no longer carry a lunchbox. I’d like to see the manufacturers improve the fuel economy if they want to stay viable in this hybrid electric movement. I’d also like to see 50+ more hp & torque. When that thing’s loaded it doesn’t seem so spry. I also want them to make captain’s chairs optional on all trims or make the bench optional. As long as the top trim levels offer a 2nd row bench I’ll be happy 👍. Did he just say the Telluride competition includes the “Honda CRV”?????

Your friend with the baby, what do they currently have (or had when they had the baby?) I also just had a first baby, and also want one of these, but mainly because as much as I love my Fiesta ST.... Tetrising shit into it to go places is getting very old. I just want to YEET everything into the back without thinking. If I bring the stroller, NOTHING else can go in the back and I have to pack the back seat. All the reviews I've seen though, including this one make it sound HORRIBLE to drive though. I'm not looking for like a Cayenne or anything, but I had a short lived Corolla that infuriated me... This just sounds like a bigger version of that, although it DOES look good!

Buy an Outback and call it a day? At least that's what we did. CVT is definitely the weak point but the current gen with the 2.4 turbo might be half entertaining (and they handle more like a car than any of these SUVs ever will). Hold value ridiculously well, great backseat room and nice long trunk for strollers. I'm pissed at Subaru for completely ignoring the enthusiast segment, but for family movers without getting too large (personally can't justify a 3 row/minivan with just one kid) it hits a sweet spot that unfortunately there isn't much competition for. P.s. keep the FiST for dad sanity breaks.
