Wisely, they accepted his invitation. They lived for 3 years with the Master, received from Him, incredible power and authority, and went out to be his spokesmen. Among the historic 12, the least known was the Apostle Jude identified more as Thaddeus (Thad) in The Chosen. It mostly comes down to the people. The Chosen presents believable, interesting, likeable, complex people with well drafted back stories. The Chosen has the advantage of having many episodes to develop these stories. And the production of The Chosen is professionally done on so many levels. First rate camera work, music, writing, set designs, etc. Good commentary!

For me it's the characterisation of the disciples. That makes this series unique. The time and thought that goes into creating individuals we can relate to on one level or another. It's also very well written, and the casting is great. The actors shine because of their talent and the quality of the writing. Add that to the beautifully created sets and there it is: The Chosen. Brilliant.

Thank you! This is what I’ve been saying! I liked The Bible series when it came out, but now that I’ve seen The Chosen, The Chosen immediately wins, no questions asked. They literally shoved all the Jesus episodes from the series into a 2-hour movie and released it in theaters. It’s called Son of God. And I remember when I saw it with my family and this scene came up after the Feeding of the 5k, and Thomas and Judas were questioning whether Jesus was the Messiah, I was also thinking to myself “You’ve been seeing Him do miracles…you literally just saw Him multiply bread and fish…you’ve been following Him all this time…and NOW you’re questioning whether He’s the Messiah?” That always felt so out of place to me. I really love how The Chosen depicts it as they believe Jesus is the Messiah but they’re questioning their places within His group. It would be cool if you looked into other Jesus movies, like Jesus of Nazareth and The Miracle Maker.

The Bible shows all through the Gospels the disciples were unsure even toward Jesus Passion...they ask Him to show them the Father, and He in turns ask them about why are they asking this, yet He's been with them all this time. So important to understand the orifinal teller of the story...He's known as Holy Spirit!

@@nycosplayernetworkcospodbe5265 Yes, but they didn’t understand what Jesus was meant to do. Jesus told them explicitly He was going to die, but they had no clue what that meant. And I think The Chosen portrays it better. They believe He’s the Messiah, but they still think He’s going to overthrow Rome.

I immediately realized the Chosen series was gonna be a fun ride by the first episode when I noticed the narrative establishing the status quo of everyone in Judea before Jesus even appears. The fact that Jesus doesn't even make an appearance till the very last few minutes to heal Mary makes his appearance that much more powerful because of the context built up before. I can't express how happy I was to finally see a Christian show that takes its writing seriously consistently. Especially with the pool of Bethesda. Man what a beautiful narrative they crafted for that awesome gospel message. The show made cry several times because of how they pay off their set ups. The scene you shared with Peter attempting to follow Jesus in the water was powerful because of how they set up Peter with his pain and lack of faith before this scene. Just brilliant, save for some consistent pacing issues I have with the show, I overall fell in love with it.

I agree the soundscape in The Chosen is so much better. Between the soundtrack, environmental sounds, and dialogue mixing it's one of the best I've heard. In it's "biblical/miracle moments", the music is always a little unusual, but it's not in your face, telling you what to feel (that's what the actors do). It serves the story so well. I didn't see The Bible series when it came out, but I saw some of the AD series they did right after, and I think that was a little better written and the best scenes were just characters interacting/conflicting, not the few miracles they had to portray.

2023-09-07 .... In agreement with the video's points ... The Chosen well depicts the Disciples as "normal people", especially with Peter in the beginning as a husband in severe financial trouble who loves his wife, and encounters failure after failure until Jesus does the miracle with the fish ... I have been in those exact shoes ... And Peter once again shows his anger and confusion when his wife looses their baby, while Jesus performs scores of other healings ... So many other reasons The Chosen is extraordinary ...

I have to gove credit where credit ks due. I have been a Christian all my life, raised Episcopalian, and I never really knew a lot about the bible or the stories contained within. Everything I knew was taught in the church. One day, i stumbled across The Bible series and was completely enthralled with the stories i had never heard before. Stories of Samson, Joshua, Saul, David, Daniel etc. I had heard the names before but never their stories. This made me get my first bible and a real understanding of the bible. Fast forward a few years and i did see some inconsistenties and vagueness of The Bible series. This is about when The Chosen came out and I've been stunned with the accuracy while still maintaining creative freedom.

The thing is….this is entertainment. Someone else’s interpretation. We know that these are men and women and will act accordingly. True the Chosen is a beautifully woven story, filled with details that are so close to real life that we can see ourselves in it. I always look at these presentations as artistic examples of their knowledge. All in all, anything that teaches us, or reinforces the teachings that God wants us to know will touch that empty place that needs to be filled. ❤

Thank you for this analysis. You put it in terms of how I feel about The Chosen vis a vis all the movie and TV interpretations. I do not dislike any of the old versions, it's just that Dallas, the actors, writers and production crew have put together what I feel as realistic and most plausible scenarios of the Apostles, Jesus and the Romans. I would like to add that my understanding of Jewish traditions, Mosaic Law and culture has taken a great leap forward in understanding. I know I know nothing, but, your videos give a perspective that is very appealing to me. You put in words much better how I feel about The Chosen. I does feel like a documentary without narration. Other productions just seem too "Hollywood" where it's overdramatized, and they never let the characters just be regular folks. They also add situations that just take away and/or change the core story of the gospels. The Mary Magdalene movie is a good example for this, not just the Bible series. They always cast "socially beautiful" actors. With The Chosen, I have never seen a group of salt of the earth type people like this before. Not that anyone isn't beautiful, but it's not the "Hollywood" standard of beauty. I'd say The Chosen was made with the same type of love that Jesus Of Nazareth was back in the 70s. That's the only production of the gospels that I can think of that shows some level of Jewish life and traditions and sticks to the story. It's also the only show (other than The Chosen) that shows Judas Iscariot as hopeful in the beginning of the story. Now however, Luke Dimyan has me bawling with his portrayal Judas. He has completely surpassed Ian McShane as Judas (that's who played Judas in the Nazareth movie). I cry with how sincere his character is in the beginning.

I have watched most of the bible series about Jesus. They were more informative and didn't really get you emotionally involved, except for the crucifixion scene, that's always hard to watch. I figured out why the Chosen is more impactful than the other series beside the fact that they flesh out the disciples. We know Jesus started his ministry at 30. In most of the Jesus movies and series the disciples appear to be in the 30-40 range. Would Jesus seek out disciples that were older than him? In the bible it says Jesus told Simon to pay the temple tax for him and Simon. The temple tax had to be paid by males 20 and over so I figure the disciples were in the 16-19 range which makes sense to me. The teenagers back then were vastly different than today's teenagers. Even in the show it says Matthew was apprenticed to an account at 8 and Thaddeus was apprenticed to a stone cutter at 9. I think Simon was probably 20-25. The Chosen didn't make the disciples this young, but it makes more sense to have them younger than the 30-40 range shown in most Jesus stories.

While I do think Jonathan Roumie is an attractive person; he exudes compassion and empathy, playing Jesus. It's him. The Holy Spirit is on his acting. You don't hear him casually referred to as "hot Jesus" bc he transcends this role. I swear.... I don't see him. I see Jesus when he heals, when he cries, when he loves.... I don't see him. I see Jesus. I know, obviously, he's not Jesus.... But I'm convinced that God is with him in this role. It's so well done, sometimes I literally CHEER when healings happen, I'm so moved with joy. The main difference in the Chosen for me is the realistic portrayal of a Jewish Jesus surrounded by Jewish looking and sounding cast. I don’t think now I can enjoy a movie where Jesus and other important Biblical Jews are portrayed as Caucasian. The one exception is Nicodemus. Eric seemed perfect for that role, even tho the accent was missing.

For me, every ahow of rhe bible shows everyone to just be at a level that i could never get to. I cant relate to aomeone who simply follows and obeys without question. With The Chosen, i can see my self doubt, frustration abd internak conflict in Peter, my overthinking and trying to make snese if the world and the miracles in Mathew and so many others. I can relate and it makes me want to be better. If Peter is to be the Rock upon which the church is built, why cant i do the same with ny own flaws and without even thinking about it i just do better.

Brandon, Simon WAS mad at Jesus! From the moment Eden told Simon she lost the baby, he was angry with Jesus until he sunk into the water. Did you forget about him throwing his basket full of loaves and fish on the ground? Simon said he gave up Everything to follow Jesus. It did seem Jesus was helping and healing everyone but Eden especially when it mattered the most! Yes, Simon was very angry at him.

@@TheSnipeLife I am kind of with kathybj on this. I take it that, like many Jews of the time, Peter expected Jesus to be more about the Jews than the Gentiles and so was upset with Jesus for not taking care of the Jews first, like keeping Eden from losing her child. This is consistent with later history of Peter where he had to have a vision before going to baptize the Gentile Cornelius and having the apostle Paul rebuke Peter for not eating with Gentiles. It shows the depth of the scholarship that The Chosen has in being consistent with Biblical portrayal of characters. I appreciate all that you are doing, though, Brandon. You have an awesome channel.

He was mad at Jesus, but more than that he felt he wasn't good enough to be helped. Hence the "maybe I'm a mistake." He feels that because he's a mistake, Jesus isn't helping him, specifically in the way he wants to be helped. Either way, the chosen builds the characters very well.

The raising of Lazarus in Jesus of Nazareth was very powerful and not followed by any lame jokes. Mary & Martha were not 'extra' either. In the Bible Peter drowned due to lack of Faith and Jesus told Him so, but the flavor of the chosen is not to make tcjesus too much like Bible Jesus. Also in Jesus of Nazereth Peter was shown as not perfect, and had some anger issues, but he was not a brawler or someone who would turn in fellow fishermen to pay off debts. Also Jesus of Nazareth had the highest quality of actors, set design, production, costumes, and here's a big scary one...omg 95% BIBLICAL ACCURATE!

I'm a little less than halfway into your video, but I just wanted to toss in a couple of things. You definitely have a point, and I absolutely love watching The Chosen, I can't miss a single episode! But I also enjoyed watching The Bible series back when. Was Mary likely to have spoken out in a culture where women were second-class? Probably not, but to be fair, maybe they were scripting that on the grounds that Mary did not expect a man to actually respect her, and anybody who showed any doubts about him she was going to be defensive on his behalf, especially after he had just cast seven demons out of her. Kind of like Jesus Point made when he told that Pharisee about the one man who owed 50 denarii versus the man who owed 500 denarii. Those men might have had gambling problems or temper issues before they found Jesus, but who knows what seven demons were making a woman do with her body? And instead of being stoned or whatever, she was delivered. As far as the storm on the lake, yes Dallas did a kick butt job with that scene, and I won't even argue that he did it better than the producer of The Bible series. But the way I look at it, is just that two people are going to problem-solve differently. I'm enjoying your comparisons though.

The Chosen's walking on water is done very well and all, but am I the only one who finds like there's a line (or a few lines) missing at the episode's timestap (on Angel Studios app) 1:07:30 - 1:07:40, specifically at 1:07:38? Jesus' response to Simon's rant seems kinda out of place.

Gotta love how The Bible series's "walking on water" scene uses shaky-cam to try and simulate the chaos of the sea, whereas The Chosen works to make the effect REAL. Frankly shaky-cam is SUCH an overused "cheat" in modern cinema, especially in action scenes. (A friend of mine describes it as putting a camera on a farret and letting it run through the set.😂)

My take is simpler: The Chosen is terrific because it is obviously written and produced by believers in Christ. The series is Biblical. Sure, it takes liberties with fleshing out it’s characters, adding in dialogue, etc., but Jesus is portrayed as fully God and fully a man. He is the real deal here.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE CHOSEN IS, JESUS IS PORTRAID AS A JEW AND WEARING CLOTHES LIKE OTHERS AND BEING A FRIEND TO HIS DECIPLES. NOT WALKING AROUND A FOOT OFF THE GROUND IN HOLY DISGUISE. Not! He was the word made flesh and none of us are so yes He is above us and rightly so. We rise up to Him, not the other way around. And the Bible says His clothes were made without seams, unlike most. He's not in Holy disguise He is Holy as the second member of the Godhead. He did not need to tell dorky jokes to be real. He was cool, with a zest for life as scriptures clearly show.

The Chosen gets a LOT of things right! I loved how it fleshes out the Disciples as flawed individuals and the Messiah as an approachable manifestation of God the Father instead of some distant hippie who works a few miracles and mumbles some insightful things. However... seeing how Dallas Jenkins openly supports the alphabet mafia, took the financial bait from the LDS community in season 2, caters to the Catholics, and how he's admitted in *VARIOUS* interviews that this is all biblical entertainment, I've lost all interest in the show. I won't get started on how Roumie is a Knighted Templar Roman-Catholic mystic with a literal messiah complex or how the writers are of a mixed faith (which also produces a mixed message), but if this is someone's _only_ exposure to the Bible, HALLELUJAH--everyone starts somewhere. However, the inaccurate portrayal and artistic conjecture have me concerned what's really being pushed on the screen. But, shouldn't this be expected from the son to the author of the critically acclaimed and highly controversial _'Left Behind'_ series? Like father, like son? I do like all of the points you brought up, though. Whereas All of the other series were obviously Hollywood, the chosen is more subtly Hollywood. What's sad is that Season 1 was phenomenal when it had less influences.

16:33 THIS! As a rule Christian movies have The Christian Character be, frankly, a Mary Sue / Gary Stu--the one who's got all the answers 'cause Faith, whose only possible "flaw" is maybe wondering what to do until another Christian Character gives the answer...the only flawed, actually HUMAN characters being the ones "going to be" saved or whatever. It's like Christian filmmakers are afraid to portray truly flawed Christian Characters as if it's somehow blasphemous or something...as if they're not truly flawed themselves. 😂

we need a Christian show that isn't relying on a director who Trolls and jokes and Jesus winking at Joseph Smith" false prophet of Mormonism" And we need actual Christians with sound doctrine writing and directing the show. also its not wise to show Yeshuas face because then those new to the faith may see that actor as Christ. Jonathan Roumie is a grave soaking Catholic mystic and a knighted templar. i don't mind a show fleshing out the story but having Yeshua deny worship is awful. season 1 the chosen has Yeshua deny worship from nicodemus. i see way to many Christians not calling this show out even when the actors are not in line with scripture especially regarding LGBTQ issues. the only good thing about the chosen is it shows the jewishness of the faith but the chosen is not safe for Christians and will warp the view some have of Christ. i use to love the chosen but i cannot support it After looking into and those making it more. and we shouldn't need emotional music made by new age people to get people interested in scripture

And the guy in charge of the music said the chosen shows in their version of Jesus he had 'flaws' The producer darryl eaves stated they didn't show the baptism scene so as not to offend the different theologies! They want to be famous and the main three make a million a year. They targeted women 25-45 and Gen Z, and even dallas stated most fans are just now returning to the faith....so they left Messiah before, thus have no understanding of the word, nor discernment, only emotion. .
