Great ideas! I just luv this idea an the inside view into these fields and seeing how they all interact. How about a home decor creator - like someone who designs wallpaper, linens, or tableware, kitchen appliances, sofas, etc for a popular line. Like a big lux retail line doing cutting edge or really hot ticket items. Just a thought

I’d love to see you follow a contractor and learn about how to translate the architect’s drawing and designer’s vision into reality particularly with a contractor that rehabs a lot of old busted homes. Maybe even just shadowing a day or two a week for the duration of a project to get the whole process start to finish.

Absolutely love seeing Kelsey put herself in a position to learn and absorb. It’s such a rare opportunity to embed with a professional for a week, esp when you’re a working professional yourself, and Kelsey had the perfect growth/beginner’s mindset to take advantage of it all. Go Kelsey!

For anyone that is interested in interior design as a career, I highly recommend but it’s a lot more work than you think! People get decorator with design mixed up and they are very different. You can self teach the technical parts of design but going to school helps you grow your creative mind and learn the science behind spaces and problem solving. The hard and soft skills I’ve learned are so transferable that I feel like I can pivot industries(graphic design, industrial/product design, construction, film etc) easily so you don’t feel stuck if you end up not liking it

Her personality, her non-judgmental investment in making it right for her clients, her passion to save what’s already here and value it by restoring it, and preserving it. Her passion speaks to me and I feel like she really spoke to you too Kelsey. Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us it was truly fascinating and enjoyable❣️❣️❣️👍🏼👏🏼🤸🏽‍♀️

I don't know about the USA but here in Ontario Canada, there is a huge difference between an Interior Designer and an Interior Decorator. Interior Designers require a minimum 4-year degree program at an accredited college or university. Graduates are then required to intern with a licensed Interior Designer for a minimum of 2 years and finish up with a series of exams through ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario). It is a very costly endeavor and one of the key differences between Designer and Decorator is that Interior Designers can actually approve structural changes on a project up to 5000 sq. ft. (at least that is what it was in 2008 when I took the program). Part of the course requirements for Interior Design is 4 years of manual drafting and Autocad. Interior Decorating is only a 2 or 3 year diploma program and focuses more on the esthetics of a project with colours, furnishings, accents, etc.

so cool! as an architect this was so fun to watch and Kelsey doing her work after hours was highly realistic. As creative as architecture and interiors are, you really have to LOVE it because it's very time consuming. Would love to see you intern or shadow with an interior decorator. Seems it would beneficial to better know the differences between interior design vs. interior decor which could help people looking to choose between these paths.

One of my friends is a picker. I really wanted to experience Round Top, so one year I went with her and one of her picker friends. It was amazing. And, I have seldom been that tired in my entire life. We were there for three days, and I was utterly done up. These girls are professionals in their field and Round Top is their big event. I thought I would die. They also have a true dedication to good food - so that was also nice. I had no guilt about what I ate because we walked what felt like ten miles every day. Did I mention that I was worn out?

As someone in her 2nd yr of design school, this was kind of insightful how interior design internship works. If you ever plan to do this again, it would be cool if you interned with an interior designer who designs more retail/hospitality/public spaces rather than just private residences. Cuz in design school we're taught so much more about how to design these kind of spaces whereas online interior design seems to be reduced to residential spaces. It would be cool if you show that thats not all interior design is

Yes!!!! For the past going on 10 years, I’ve worked at a small design studio in the US much like Liz’s. A different discipline in design, not interior design. I LOVE that this video highlights some of the brilliant work that happens behind the scenes of the work we do. Some people view “design” almost as if it is a magic trick. There are so many details behind each decision we make I love that this video exposes some of it. It reminds me of our Monday morning office meetings. I love chatting about Design with other designers. Kelsey, I would love to chat about some of the other design disciplines, if you’re ever interested.

I’ve been considering an internship like this and just wasn’t sure what to expect. THANK YOU I’m so excited to apply to jobs now 😂

I really enjoyed this video and the concept behind it. It opens up a lot more conversation and ideas for the channel. BUT as an Interior Architect/Designer myself, there is a lot of misconception about what we do or what we can do. I do a lot more than just "colouring". This is also an ongoing conversation with National Councils (especially the South African Council for the Architectural Profession) to get Interior Architects accredited.

Well done, Kelsey! I could see you going this direction. I think it was smart of you to shadow a designer and learn more first hand about how her business operates and about the industry itself. Seeking opportunities to grow is always wise. I’m excited to see where this leads.

this video was so fun! Liz seems very cool and her work is beautiful. i would watch a series where you just keep interning for other designers but it would be great to see different careers too.

i loved this! so fun and interesting and Liz is so knowledgeable. My other favorite SG videos are the ones where you go into someones space and redesign it, like you did with the lake cabin.

This was seriously so cool and such a fun way to see how other professionals operate in their environments that you’re apart of in your own ways. Thank you for sharing your experience!

It was a lot of detailed work. Plus coming at a complete different angle in trying to please your client. You could do this job, but would you love coming to work everyday with that task and pressure? That's when you get burned out. Variety? Yep, that's what you're doing now. Happy, with life? Yes!!!

Kelsey I think what you chose to do shows courage! You putting yourself in an intern position although you have accomplished so much having your own buisnerss it is definitely self-growth. Can't wait to see you thriving!
