Hey Matthew! I am usually a silent viewer as I typically watch videos on the tv, but I wanted to comment on how much I enjoy your content. I feel like we have some of the same gardening tendencies bc I don’t like a fussy plant either. 😉 Your videos are so relaxing that they either go well with my coffee or just before bed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful space. “In a world full of hate be a light.” Happy growing season! 🪴

Thanks for another great day in the garden with Matthew. Always fun and informative to watch! I vote for the boxwood hedge to simplify the look as they grow. Can’t wait to see how the garden continues to evolve this year✨🪴

Great video!!! I had to laugh when you said you love electric tool because I have a battery operated lawn mower which works like a dream as well as a battery operated small snow blower so I make a path for the dogs on the back patio so I feel you when you say gas tools are much more of a task!! I love the little branch chopper too. Thank you for sharing 🌷🌷

Keep the boxwood round for another year - I like the round shape, and they might be big enough next year to start hedging them. I’m sorry your little fruit trees aren’t doing better, but I do agree with your “no fussy plants” philosophy - life is too short! After seeing your lavender, I am going to look for some to try in ground this year. I tried it in a pot and it didn’t do well. Love the chipper - what a handy tool! Another video where I learned a lot - thank you. 💗 from Pennsylvania.

This is my favorite kind of video -- garden chores! I learn something new every time. I am loving your lavender hedge! Like you I'm struggling with what to do with my boxwoods. We inherited ours and currently it's a long line of spheres but of all different sizes! I think it would look better as a hedge but unsure what to do. I would keep yours spherical for another year, maybe allow them to be freer on the sides so they continue growing together with the long-term goal of making a hedge.

I pulled some old box woods last year and created a new front garden bed full of bulbs, flowering ground cover and 2 flowering bushes. Your box woods are beautiful round. I personally don’t like harsh corners in landscapes. I think it stops the flow of energy. But I can’t seem to get lavender to grow from year to year. Trying again this year 👍🏻

Hello Matthew. I think a straight hedge would be good since you will have flowers above on the railing and it will be a nice contrast. However the space is too far right now so I changed my mind to spheres. Good job. Loved the flowers on railing last year, so pretty.

One of my most favorite spaces in my garden is an east-facing, morning sun space! I would think of it more like a Japanese garden - umbrella pines, Japanese maples, broadleaf evergreens - that sort of thing. In terms of perennials, we particularly love Astilbe Chocolate Shogun. But we also have found at the sunniest edges, Stachys Pink Cotton Candy and Achillea Terracotta do well there - at least here in New England

I grew a peach in my garden and it had SO many issues and we had late frosts every single year. After ten years I finally gave up and asked my husband to cut it down. Haven’t missed it for one second.
@judymckerrow6720

If you do decide to get another peach tree try finding one the has a later fruiting time. I found one that doesn’t give me ripe peaches until later in the season so when late frost comes it won’t kill any of the flowers that aren’t there yet. Wow having trouble with my thought process this morning. 🌷💚🙃

I also love power tools! Especially electric ones. They are so much lighter and easier to store. I think you have sold me on the SunJoe chipper. I've been looking at it for a while. It looks like it will do what I need for it to do. I've also decided to put in some form of irrigation system. Just can't decide between drip tape or the drip line. Still weighing the pros and cons. Love the very informative video!

The boxwoods look great . How formal is your front ?? Sometimes I feel round softens a surface and square formalizes yet however you trim its nest and tidy which I love that look for any front! Love how you are easy to listen and you are a gardener that loves to garden ! You make everything look easy☺️.

Yes! As soon as it dries up a bit outside. As I’ve mentioned my lawn is a wreck from winter but it’s filling back in now that it has warmed up and is drying out more quickly after rains. Overseeding in a few weeks!

As to the boxwoods, giving them a flat top haircut will make the line more severe. I favor the softer rounded look. I also have a similar garden spot with morning sun and afternoon/evening shade. Coneflowers do very well for me in that location.

Hi Matthew! I'm sorry your fruit trees aren't doing very well. It not fun giving up space, and time, on something that doesn't produce for you. If you really want fruit trees, maybe someone at Grandma's Greenhouse could help you with some good ones for your area. Do you have the space to do espalier fruit trees? If you needed to cover them, it would be much easier if they aren't too high up. I would keep the boxwoods trimmed into a sphere. I like the look of spheres much better than a hedge. I appreciate you showing how you prune your lavender, and why. I have one in a pot that I'm going to trim because I don't want it getting too woody. I've heard that you can prune heucheras this way, too, so I'm going to try that for the same reason. I had a couple of heucheras years ago that got very woody because I didn't know they needed pruned and I don't want mine to get that way. I have the Black Pearl one in a pot and love the color. Thank you so much for sharing!

@@SouthernersGarden before you dig up your dwarf peach tree check out garden answer. I know she had peach leaf curl on her dwarf and I can't remember if she started spraying in the spring to help that out.
@SouthernersGarden
@SouthernersGarden 2 жыл бұрын
@@LittleIowa it’s not a dwarf like hers is. It’s still 10x10. They’ll be no digging anything at this point. It’ll have to be cut down. 😂 I’ve tried copper fungicide for several years with no luck because our springs are very wet and curl thrives in those conditions. The curl doesn’t hurt the tree that bad. It’s the canker that’s bad and it’s incurable except for potentially using a systemic, which I’m not doing since it’s not organic and the whole reason I tried growing my own fruit. It’s definitely a loss either this year or next.

Have you tried it with perennial cut back material? I’m curious how it does with that
@SouthernersGarden
@SouthernersGarden 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would work unless it was woody perennials. It’s a chipper, not so much a shredder and the blades are pretty far in there. You would need to be able to push the material in there pretty far for it to grab it and it may gum up the blades.
@GardenEvolution
