At 10:20, Erin O'Tpole, the Conservative leader before Polievre, didn't get replaced because of "inside baseball". O'Toole was a Blairite conservative who, when the Freedom Convoy was on its way from Alberta to Ottawa during February 2022, notoriously took the side of the regime media CBC and refused to meet with them, just like Trudeau. This vilification of the truckers as "deplorables" by O'Toole led to a cratering of his polling numbers within the Conservative caucus and in right-wing circles almost within hours. He was ridiculed and resigned in disgrace the next day.
@jasonsheath3294Күн бұрын
at that time the Truckers via their representatives were calling for the immediate overturning of the elected government and for the Convoy leaders to have a say in the new government. The letter they drafted to the Governor General was quickly waived away and buried by both their own leadership when the true nature of what they were demanded was reflected back to them by incredulous members of the media, and their ardent supporters on the right who were quick to find them blameless. So important to know the context. I dont say this to cast needless blame on the Convoy - the fact the Liberals suspended the Charter and invoked national emergency powers for what was CLEARLY partisan political reasons was an affront to democratic norms everywhere. Every lawyer I knew said it was illegal and it was eventually deemed so by the court - leaving a massive and properly founded lawsuit in its wake...against the government. But O'Toole would have been a much better option for the country than what we got in the intervening 4 years with a Trudeau government bereft of ideas and just piling on debt and ramping up immigration far beyond what the country could properly integrate and absorb. Canadians are now living with the consequences with 12 hour waits for ER treatment, some of the highest house prices in the world and inflationary pressures - all issues that exist in other places BUT all issues the Trudeau government made real world choices which made all of these things so much worse. With the amount of money that was paid to Gerald Butts (Eurasia group) Trudeau’s best friend, through federal government contracts over $10 grand, there is no doubt Butts walked Trudeau & Freeland through this entire mess that Canada is in!

13:24 No, in the UK we didn't just get "antsy" for something new. We got tired of a Conservative government that only seemed competent in betraying the British people on Immigration.

I'm Canadian and, like the majority of Canadians at this point, I despise Justin Trudeau. The sooner Justin and the liberal Party of Canada are turfed out of office, the better. Someone should tell Justin Trudeau what Oliver Cromwell told the Long Parliament nearly 400 years ago, "You have sat here too long for all the good you have done (not that Justin has done any good). In the name of God, go!"

It's incredible how one man can cause so much damage to a country in less than a decade. Canada used to be my number one destination if I ever chose to leave Germany. Now it is not even near the top of my list.

It was NOT 1 man. Trudeau's bag lickin' MPs were complicit in ruining this country. Politicians are now merely Party line voters who do not represent their respective constituents. We are in big trouble.

As a 'Canadian' by birth and not residence, I've been saddened by the directions I've seen Canada take politically over the last 10 years. So my question is: is Trudeau and his radically left wing policies a product of Canadian culture generally or was he ruling that way despite it?

From Canada. If Raquel Welch ran for Liberal Leadership; I still wouldn't vote Liberal. Harmful socialism at its worst. We need less government. Incentivize brawn and brainpower. Bring back self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Canada needs small government for a country with Big ideas and so much potential. Canada and the U.S. - what a powerhouse. 🍁

Yep, agreed. He's the worst PM we ever had. His father was the second worst. I'm sure in the fullness of time more people will see it. I cannot say what his legacy would be... adding more to the federal debt in 10 years than the preceding ~150 years? Putting our economy last in the G7 and OECD for growth? Creating more division than any other PM? Presiding over a declining military? Losing credibility with every other country on Earth? Never planting the 1,000,000,000 trees he promised? Doing nothing to reduce our carbon emissions? Making sure we had more crime? Uncontrolled immigration? Like it's so hard to choose... maybe all of the above.
