This week, Victorian premier Jacinta Allan has put Victoria on the international map with one of the most bizarre pieces of identity politics yet seen from a western government. On her Twitter account, Allan announced that ‘We have appointed the first Parliamentary Secretary [equivalent to a junior minister] for Men’s Behaviour in Australia’. What's going on?
The Spectator's John Connolly speaks to Sall Grover and Australian journalist Terry Barnes.

If it's supposed to solve violence against women, it should also have a minister for women's behavior, since girl on girl violent crimes and abuse exist but they seem to ignore it. We're seeing a very simple and predictable trend: Women become violent as they are more allowed to be violent (as many men would). The social norms and standards have allowed this, which just shows that both genders are capable of great violence towards any gender.

Nah! we need real people in government, not woke uni students and failed union officials that never even had a real job or owned a business. These aforementioned people have no idea of how to run a BUSINESS let alone a COUNTRY. The real issue is the breakdown of the family unit, it is so easy for a female to get pregnant ( the pill has been around for ages and there are other means of contraception) and raise a child on welfare supported by the government. I know of primary school students that have up to 3 fathers!!!! let that sink in my friend & it's not uncommon now.

Whataboutism. The relative size, strength, vulnerability during pregnancy and early years childcare, and typical financial dependency leaves females more open to abuse. When a woman is ever in trouble, its men they run to. But when they live in a peaceful and progressive society, they are all victims of everything! Govt still refuse to appoint a minister for male wellbeing, denied men and boys a day in parliament to discuss "the masculinity crisis", refuse to discuss equal representation on the equalities commission, and didnt even invite representatives of male DV victims to the table when discussing legal strategies to tackle the issue. The items that you listed, are not "women's" specifically gender problems . They are human ego specific ones . And although individual women do go in for those specific listed arrogances, there is individual men who do so and in far greater numbers . Which is especially true for the "gold digging" . That involves the mining industry actually. And is largely, a male dominated sector , large male gold miner numbers , and far fewer females are gold diggers. That is according to statistical facts and data . But on all those listed , they are not specific to either gender, but rather, individual and/or family unit circles of trust specific, that ripple effect into broader areas of society. For example, you could be a quiet neighbourly man who goes to work each day at the local chemist dispensing medicines full time , quiet, hard working individual and living a quiet and peaceful respected life ; to all appearances and by all community accounts on his character. BUT , the community accounts have got it wrong on the peaceful and quiet because they aren't aware , that two doors down from where he lives, there is a monstrosity of a man who spends a significant part of the evenings raging like a mad bull at everyone who lives in the same home, and being two doors away, can hear everything. And it is the opposite side of peace and quiet . And he is a stranger to it and the people who live there . No one of his customers, are aware of how loud and violent, his own existence is . Because he says nothing about what is going on, two doors down as he doesn't want it impacting on his own hard working life, as a chemist. He doesn't want to upset his customers.. And that's how these things work . (Usually) . No one, male or female, knows what goes on in other people's lives . They only think they do. And those people who think they know everything about what is going down in the town, are the characters who are the biggest perpetrators of those things, you listed, as they are the individuals , who have the biggest egos . As they are actually the biggest perpetrators of those things you list, for the mere FACT that they are always trying to entangle and enmesh and interfere , overtake, and control, someone else's business, instead of just doing what the chemist does . Minding, his own .

No Helen. People need to understand, that division is necessary. Instead of seeing it, as threatening. That is why, we have female only hairdressing salons, gymnasiums, women's groups, women's health only , and women's shelters and women's restrooms . So think about it like this next time you go out shopping and need to use a public restroom. Would you yourself, feel comfortable , if the only restroom facility was an "undivided" toilet that has been constructed to be unisex friendly ? And you walk into it, and it has men in there ? And I want you to think about it . The reason why there is division, is because we are OPPOSITE genders . That is the nature of things . It is not the divisions, anyone needs to be threatened by . There is all boy boarding schools, and all girl boarding schools , female football teams, male football teams ; and that is all reasonable and normal Helen. The people, one actually needs to be cautious around, are those who actually DON'T accept those options as normal , and want everything ; everything unisex SHARED . Who want everything an "all in." Which is not realistic nor fair on both genders . So it is actually not "divides" anyone needs to be threatened by. It is people who don't allow for it, that are nutters Helen. @@helen9289

Are we going to warn women if they are on a date with a Muslim man ( we know that women are treated differently under Islamic law ) . Basic facts are there are good men and bad men , the same goes for women, no "educating" will ever change that, we all have a built in moral compass . We can educate women to look for certain signs in a mans behaviour, but often these women are infatuated with these men and overlook or refuse to see the signs and sadly are often attracted to these types . So perhaps it should be a minister of educating women on picking the right men for relationships. There has always been bad people, and there always will be ,no minister is ever going to stop this . It would be interesting to see how you think we can solve this issue 🤔

If I tried to discuss the issue with anyone else they would go quite & stare at the ground and not make eye contact. Not only was my partner gaslighting me - our whole society was gaslighting me! It was really bizarre that people outright refused to verbally acknowledge the possibility I was being abused. There is something really wrong in our thinking when we assume men cannot be mentally and physically abused by their partner! Nothing I say here diminishes the concern we should have about women being more frequent victims of abuse. But why do we as a society get so uncomfortable when the gender is reversed in these issues? We need to look at this honestly because there are causes in our society leading to this emotionally damaging bias! I think both these speakers màke excellent points!

My ex-neighbour for the majority of the time I knew her was a sole parent, she had a young boy, 9 years old when they first moved in. She was given sole custody, the father had very limited access to him, they split up because he cheated on her, not because he was abusive. She would constantly be screaming at the young boy, day and night, it was so bad a lot of the nearby neighbours would talk amongst ourselves about it. I bumped into her when going to get my mail one night and I struck up a conversation with her, asked her how she was going. She was feeling frustrated because her son was acting out a lot. She was constantly apologising for his behaviour but he wasn't doing anything that I didn't do as a kid and nobody yelled at me night and day. My dad wasn't around much when I grew up, he was too busy to spend much time with any of us kids, he wasn't much of a father figure and whilst he was occasionally abusive towards my mother when he lost control, he never hit her. I don't know where his anger or lack of self-control came from, but it wasn't something that conditioned either my brother or me to be abusive, thankfully. My best friend's father was more of a father figure to me than my father was, I spent a lot of time with them and they threated me like family. My neighbour's boy wasn't a bad boy, he moved somewhere new, he had no friends, no role model, barely got to see his father and he acted out to get attention from his mother to the point that even negative attention was attention and because of her frustration she abused him verbally, emotionally and psychologically. I think it is common, especially amongst broken homes or with parents that had experienced abuse themselves. I think if we just look at symptoms we will be pissing into the wind, it will be very hard to identify and treat people who have developed to have abusive traits. By not looking at the environments where boys are raised into men and the role women also play in producing these men we will never make any meaningful steps to improve the situation at all, let alone cure society of this blight. The government also doesn't want to admit that there is a significant amount of violence on women coming from the migrant population, the ABC covered a study in 2021 where a third of migrant women had experienced abuse, some have come from cultures that do not treat women like we do here, yet this is taboo to talk about it and because people don't want to appear as being racist they have thrown an entire generation of women under a bus and the fallout is they do not restrict their abusive mindset just to other migrants. As a child of an immigrant, it is okay to call a spade a spade. We aren't all over-sensitive morons. The sooner new Australians adopt Australian values, the better it is going to be for everyone. If you do not want to adopt Australian values, don't move here. You are just not going to resolve any problems without the ability to get your hands dirty. If you want to improve the status quo you need to get psychologists involved that know what they are talking about and leave the safe space feminists to Twitter.

70% of surveyed women in same sex relationships reported violence. Only 29% of gay men surveyed, reported violence. "Male Traditional Owners" commit murder at more than 12 times that of their "Male Colonisers" and "Female Traditional Owners" commit murder at 2.4 times..... Statistically speaking, there has never been a safer time to be a woman in Australia, especially a "cis" Caucasian one. Rates of violence have continued to come down for decades.... except in "certain communities". But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story (or a vote-grabbing tactic).

(4:08) Tells me everything I need to know about how this kind of thing happens. People too worried about gender identity that you can't even address something as dangerous as Domestic Violence.... Bravo Australia.

Virtually everything this Victorian Labor Government has done over the last decade could indeed be made into a Monty Python style black comedy with no poetic licence or distortion of the truth required. I profoundly regret my move to Victoria 6 years ago (I way under-estimated the severity of the political situation here) and quite honestly the only thing still keeping me here is that I am not rich enough to leave Australia permanently altogether to live in Florida as a self funded retiree. The other states here in Australia are only a handful of years behind bonkers Victoria. You'll see - they will all have this position within 5 years!

Women also raised every child. (The man is often pushed to the back of the room.) Which means a WOMAN raised every ABUSIVE MAN. So not only do we need a minister for women's behaviour, we need to take children away from women. Of course that won't happen - because Labor are left, and lefty men are more feminine than woman are.
