The prime minister was at the depot to inaugurate the metro system. The speaches overran a bit and they only opened the station entrance gates when he hit the button to send the first train onto the system. It's a nice metro system and I hope it helps to take cars out of the city.

Dear hosts, the archeological items are yet to be displayed in a museum that will be opened in 2025 or 2026 in Pavlos Melas metropolitan park.

Unfortunately greek teenagers dont respect ancient artifacts as you believe and they paint graffiti all over them.

Very proud and happy that we have metro underground. After so many many years it's finish. The best will be in the future to build for the airport and west side. Will be great. And also clean the water in center so that tourists can go to the beach directly in the center.

at the end of 2025 the extention of kalamaria wll be opened. As a resident of thessaloniki i havent visited the metro yet because at the first days the ticket is free and its litterally full, people are going there just to see it and not use it.maybe i will start to use it by the next week

The archaeologists delayed the project countless times, not always expressing genuine concerns, just complaining and blocking everything. The Venizelou station alone delayed the delivery of the whole project for over a year. Lots of discussions, debates and fruitless arguments, on issues like whether the items should be removed or not. Finally it was decided to remove them temporarily, build the station and position them back upon completion. They still... weren't satisfied, characterizing the procedure as a "crime". The case even had to be fought under courts. Finally it's over fortunately.

They drilled 9.5km in 38 years, which amounts to 20meters per month. Talk about corruption. The so called Archaelogists who as the govt claims delayed things (which were probably govt party's minions represented by an installed corrupt loser, which means it's the govt doing things and you believe the lies) in fact gained aswell from such actions, since they pretended to work while getting paid (if it's true). They could've bypassed the ancient ruins if that was the case, and i doubt there's too many of these along the 9.5km line.

Correction : archaeological pisses were found are from 340bc, not 1000 year old. Greeks tach the DNA of city thessaloniki at the beginning

Thanks a lot for your video! I felt as if i rode the metro along with you! One piece of info: There are no trash bins inside the stations for security reasons! I visited Helsinki last year. It was very nice. Porvoo was very picturesque. And Suomenlina, too.
@hopintomybootsКүн бұрын
Thessaloniki metro is so modern compared to one in Helsinki :) Those security doors, automatic trains.. We don't have those. Well we do have a sec.door in one of the stations called Vuosaari but it never worked so they just left it as it is :D Porvoo is also nice town to visit! Well, the old Porvoo is.
@Alexander-bj6vjКүн бұрын
I don't know why the station was closed? It should be open from 05:30. This metro project started 2006 so it took 18 years to open mainly because of the vast antiquities discovered.

Exactly. The idea of buliding a metro was a minister's during the 80's, but everything actually started happening a lot later.

Something else of note: given the Athens Metro, especially the underground lines, there's no trash on the stations or trains barely ever so. It will be much better in Thessaloniki.

@hopintomyboots Metro line 2 will travel next november to the "Mikra" station. The extension to the airport will happen later. However there will be shuttle buses to the airport. "Nea Elvetia" the eastern end station of line 1 has now a X2 Bus to the airport. Both lines therefore have buses to the airport. Airport bus to KTEL Macedonia (01X and 01N) are also at the airport.

@yanni2737Күн бұрын
@@Squid-i7qthat makes zero sense. Remove the metro from any major high density city and you need to find the extra space to accommodate hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Also buses don't increase capacity just use the current available. Buses would only work in US low density cities, not in Europe where the density is much higher so the ridership, as an example just 2 lines of the Athens metro (line 2 and 3) have a ridership of around a million per day, compared with the Los Angeles metro (a city much larger than Athens) that gets the same ridership in a week.

@yanni2737Күн бұрын
@@Squid-i7q where you get these from? The estimate for the Athens traffic without the metro is an increase of about 40% (you only need to visit Athens when there is a metro strike to see the difference). Also I am not sure how would politicians make money out of building the metro, as the vast majority of the construction funds comes from the European Investment bank and the European Regional development fund.
