Medics relationship with his team mates is more of a symbiotic one, more out of Medics selfish and sadistic nature, but what do you expect out of a band of psychopathic mercenaries. He gets protection and guinea pigs to experiment on, his team mates are kept alive. A far cry more interesting than the angelic healer that's been tired over the years, the Medic is one of a kind.

For Robots, so many aspects are thematically relevant: - the robots are introduced in the later segment of the storyline. They are programmed to destroy the remaining non-robots mercenaries (the playable characters in tf2), making that part a 60s Spy vs 70s Sci-fi clash (that's resonating with the initial RED (warm colors, wooden structures) vs BLU (cold colors, metal structures) clash between the two teams) - the atonal's instability reflects the game lore: both of their respectives Bosses were assassinated, so RED and BLU are unsure about what's going to happen next, not receiving any orders from above - the theremin-like sound is associated in the game with the robots, while the brass is associated with the regular (flesh) mercenaries (see: tf2 original theme), so they start taking turns like boxers swing at each others - then the bell ringing midway represents that western mexican-standoff between the two parties - that Blues Brother bass line coming back represents the robots relentless march towards the flesh mercenaries, as the offensive is resumed - the theremin-synth and brass then start synchronizing, playing the same melody, like how both flesh and steel mercenaries are indistinguishable when they're brawling in the melee - the track ends with the brass having the last word, representing the flesh mercenaries ultimately winning the battle TF2 is filled with details like that in all the designs - from the sound design, character design, level design, to evidently, music design. It's all love letters to everything the creators hold dear to their hearts.

As a random fact, the "70s spy theme" is the intended theme of the game as a whole, according to developer commentary. This can be seen in a lot of the earlier maps, which feature "70s spy-tech" hidden around the place. 2Fort leans heavily into this, being composed of two front-facades hiding basements filled with high-tech computers. Several maps also contain hidden missile silos, another spy-movie staple.

The context for the title of "Rocket Jump Waltz" is in one of the original gameplay trailers for Team Fortress 2 they would show off several of the classes. Rocket Jumping is a technique that was used very often in FPS games at the time so Valve decided to make it a core part of the Soldier himself. In his part of the trailer it was a montage of Soldier rocket jumping and that song plays during that segment.

I love the round start music for Mann VS Machine (ROBOTS! is the "theme" for the mode), as with each completed wave, the music starts to have less synthesizers and bells, with more and more brass and other instruments being re-introduced, making it sound more human, like the mercs are taking back ground from the Machine army, its absolutely amazing to listen to.

The reason why that 40 second song, Rocket Jump Waltz, is so catching to the fans is primarily due to the fact that it's now associated with the voice actor of the Mercenary known as Soldier. The voice actor had passed away due to Covid-19, so multiple edits ended up using Soldier's signature theme to honor Rick May.

If you liked "ROBOTS!", you'll definitely enjoy "The Calm" These OST pieces are rarely played in game, and they're actually much more associated with the promotional short films released alongside them, which I highly recommend you watch since it contextualizes the music so much more. I instantly recommend "Meet the Medic" and "Mann vs. Machine". Also, "Rocket Jump Waltz" was most likely recommended because that's closely tied to the character class Soldier, who uses rockets to jump. His actor, Rick May, had recently passed away, so people use this song to honor him.

10:56 When Rocket Jump Waltz was released in August 21, 2006 listed as the 3rd track made in the list of TF2 Official Soundtracks, we all thought that it was just ordinary theme for Soldier’s rocket jumping in trailer 2 of TF2 and being in the 33 different main menu themes. But when Rick May was reported as died from COVID-19 on April 8, 2020, the theme is now used for multiple tributes in honour of Rick May for being a great Soldier voice actor. “You were good son, real good, maybe even the best” R.I.P Rick May (September 21, 1940 - April 8, 2020)

honestly Medic! is even cooler in context: in Meet the Medic, one of the many short films Valve made with Source Film Maker, it plays as Medic takes his newest inventions for a spin. he's perfected the Medigun, and testing the Ubercharge. and he is IN THE ZONE as he is healing his team, before going for the hail mary. 5:11 "Doctor, are you sure this will work?" "I HAVE NO IDEA" is such an iconic exchange, and the buildup to it actually working in the music is just. *chefs kiss* perfection.

The reason why I like Robots! is because the music transitions from synth to traditional instruments. They both clash but at the end, traditional instruments win. It's kinda symbolic, humans win at the end.
@destrawd4658

I have always adored the song, because I saw it as symbolic of the first to last fight between Mann Co. and Grey Mann's machines. And how towards the end, the synthetic and theremin melodies are rivaled by the traditional instruments representing the humans beating back against the robots in a final push. Literally gives me chills, although that's probably just me.

The entire premise of TF2 is that it takes place in the 1960's of a rather alien alternate universe from ours. The lore is laden with satire and tongue-in-cheek jokes, and the music absolutely helps that tone shine. It is gritty, bloody, barbaric, and... funny. Never taking itself too seriously, but also not relying on its humor to serve as a substitute for great gameplay. There are still many more songs from the game out there to listen to. Drunken Pipe Bomb is an all-time favorite.

For reference, rocket jump waltz is very personal to the soldier class, as rocket jumping is his main way of getting around maps, its a short tid bit of soldiers own theme song, the reason its gained traction is due to it having more been associated with respecting rick may, the voice actor for the soldier who died in april 2022, due to the theme giving off somewhat tragic-war-like vibes when hearing it

If you end up doing more TF2, Id suggest "A little heart to heart" and "the calm". These two songs are the intros for medic and robots respectively, and really add alot when listened to in succession. A little heart to heart is for a scene of medic with heavy on an operating table, having a discussion, while medic performs heart surgery, no anaesthetic. and medic is for when they reach the battlefield with Heavys newly ubercharged heart. The calm is for a section where both teams come together and walk towards an unknown threat, and robots plays after the reveal of the, uhh, have a guess.
