LYRICS 🥀🖤🥀 Up on his horse, up on his horse Not gonna wake up here anymore Listen one time, it's not the truth It's just the story I tell to you Easy to say, easy to do But it's not easy, well maybe for you Hope that you find it, hope that it's good Hope that you read it, think that you should Cuts you some slack as he sits back Sizes you up, plans his attack [Spoken] Da-da-da Drums please, Fab [Pre-Chorus] And I got it all, I got it all Waitin' for me down on the street But now you gotta do somethin' special for me I'm gonna say what's on my mind Then I'll walk out, then I'll feel fine [Chorus] Yeah, I'm under his thumb, I'm on his back I will not show my teeth too quick I needed you there, I needed you there But I didn't know, I didn't know [Break] Go alone I'll go alone We'll go alone I'll go alone [Verse 2] Back from his trip, he's at the door When he gets back, he's on the phone Innocent eye, innocent heart No, it's not wrong, but it's not right Innocent time, out on his own Not gonna do that, fuck, I'm out of control I was just bored, playin' the guitar Learned all your tricks, wasn't too hard [Chorus] It's the last one now, I can promise you that I'm gonna find out the truth when I get back [Outro] Gone now are the old times Forgotten, time to hold on the railing The Rubik's Cube isn't solving for us Old friends, long forgotten The old ways at the bottom of The ocean now has swallowed The only thing that's left is us So pardon the silence that you're hearing It's turnin' into a deafening, painful, shameful roar

I personally think that this song, Selfless, and “Why are Sunday’s so depressing?”, are some of the best alternative rock songs I’ve ever heard in my life. That being said, Adults are talking and Brooklyn Bridge are also next level songs too! Incredible album as a whole, one of the best I’ve heard for the alternative rock genre in many years.

Since "The New Abnormal" came out in April, I've probably listened to it 20-30 times. I think this is their most "complete" album so far. I can hear how they have grown musically, thou they still retained their signature sound (like in "Bad Decisions"). I love how they left in Julian's comments made during the recording ("Drums, please, Fab..." "False...break..." etc.). Rick Rubin's influence is clearly felt on this album, but in a sense that he gave the guys courage to experiment, like with "At the Door" (the song has no drums for the first 3 minutes or so, but has some of Julian's best singing ever, with an ominous keyboard hum throughout). Also, making it their first video from the album takes some balls, when they could have gone with much safer "Eternal Summer", which is such a great tune. So great in fact, that even the fade out ending sounds so good, it could have been a hit song all on it's own. For me, it's a mix of waiting so long for their new stuff, and that what they recorded seems to be exactly the music I needed to hear at this stage of my life, that makes this album so good. Also, I'm the same age as them, so I guess that too is one of the reasons the music sounds as if it was custom tailored for me. In case you missed it from reading my comment, I REALLY LOVE THIS ALBUM from start to finish! Now all I have to do is to wait for this pandemic to pass, and then hear them live...(maybe in 2021).

It's like you've read my mind and said all of this before I could. The New Abnormal if my favorite album right now, even though I know the first two are better and feel much more nostalgic when I listen to them. I've listened to The New Abnormal so many times I'm sure that years from now when I play it again, I'll remember of 2020. It's basically the soundtrack for this year in my life.

I completely agree that it feels as if it was “tailor made”, I’m sure it’s the same for all the true fans but the timing of the album and the title makes me think that The Strokes truly have their fingers on the pulse of society or that Julian is simply a genius and the world needs to wake up and realise it. Phenomenal album

I remember reading in an interview (2010) that Julian Casablancas wanted to write a song for the NY Mets; he eventually got to do it, and as they stated in "5guys talking about things they know nothing about ep. 2" at some point he wanted to name this song just Ode, but Moretti convinced him to keep the word Mets. Julian said he wrote it while waiting for a train after the Mets lost a match, and Morietti pointed out that it alludes to "something that you set your heart to, and that you love unconditionally but that continues to disappoint you".

It’s quickly become my favorite song by the Stokes, and it’s so beautiful I just wish it had a more fitting title. I have no issues with the Mets, but this song brings tears of joy, unlike the Mets (usually).

@@pnkflyd99 I kinda liked it after reading Fab's explanation 👀 "both the Mets and the song evoke “something that you set your heart to and that you love unconditionally but that continues to disappoint you”."

idk why but I cried when I saw the "You gotta believe", "Believe in Miracles" and "Restart" signs
@Wiley_Coyote4 жыл бұрын
Clearly the song is about a little more than baseball, since Restart changes the meaning of the other phrases somewhat.
@michaelguaman59072 ай бұрын
@@Wiley_CoyoteThe Mets were named the Miracle Mets in 1969 for how they got to the World Series and won after a storybook ending. You gotta believe or rather Ya gotta believe is a slogan Mets fans have used for decades from that magical run they had in 1968 and 1986 so that answers a little bit of your question or statement.
