@@Embrod I'm Brazilian, and all the shows and interviews that Sepultura gave at the time, they themselves said were *NEVER* black metal or death metal, but thrash metal. For me, saying that sepultura is black metal, is the same thing as saying that slayer and black metal, just because they both talk or have talked about satanism and anti-Christianity in their lyrics, and black metal is characterized by much more than that, so deicide would it be black metal?? No lol, so can you understand that? There are other characteristics about a genre, not just summed up in its lyrics (in addition to the fact that Sepultura only talked about Satanism in the lyrics at the beginning, then it didn't happen anymore)

Cool list. I had to stop the video at the year 2000 and take a look at what else was on there. We diverge on our taste in black metal right at the year 2000. I counted 4 bands on there that I listen to from that point on. I would drop a different band name in every other years slot. It makes sense that most people are going to agree on stuff pre-2000 because there was far less black metal released in those years. Of course from the turn of the century the genre exploded. The fact that I could have a wildly different list from you and someone else could have a wildly different list from me and you is a real testament to how this genre has evolved and stood the test of time.
@BrittCastsFireballsАй бұрын
One of those better be Taake lol. I really thought they would be featured earlier, but I guess Dødskvod is their most popular album. I feel like Hoest does a great job keeping the spirit of raw black metal alive even though they were late to the game (in terms of official release). Man, I remember buying Nattestid in 1998 or 1999 I believe. Feels like yesterday.

1993 and 1994 I see like a game changing years when melodic, epic and atmospheric elements have been starting appearing in the black metal, albums like Dark Medieval Times, In The Nightside Eclipse or The Somberlain literally started a new era of the atmospheric and melodic black metal, which to a certain extent changed a very aggressive genre into something beautiful, but at the same time kept its dark and haunting essence.

This is what happens when the basics of BM are perfectly executed. - Ride the Wings of Pestilence, from Slaughtersun, one of the most overlooked albums in BM history.
