@lauramitchell67259 ай бұрын
Okay,hear me out. I was crestfallen when she said in a previous video about making a guest room out of the doom room.😢 Realistically,she needs a storage room because she has ALOT of items that aren’t used on a daily basis. My suggestion: get two of those sturdy,metal restaurant shelves and put them against the wall that has the bump out at the bottom.(This will allow for necessary airflow) Designate one for all of the camping gear and the other for the Xmas box,art supplies,cat carrier,etc. Keep all of the fans and vacuum where you put them,another fact of life. I would LOVE to see two of those big white cabinets (if two would fit) replace all of the small,open storage in her kitchen! Talk about calming the chaos,one could be for her food,the other for pet food,leashes and a bag of shopping bags.(Maybe even backup toiletries if needed.) She would then have room to use the various kitchen furniture in her bedroom and living room if so desired. Lastly,this would make room to put the clothing racks on that side of the storage room so that she has ONE ,HUGE WALK-IN storage closet but her bedroom,living room and kitchen will be calm,organized and pleasant LIVING SPACES!🙌🏻

Excellent suggestions!
@valeriaswanne9 ай бұрын
The issue with having a room for storage is that it just gives you a reason to keep buying and keep hoarding. "Oh I can just put it in the spare room." It's a massive container that they think won't ever fill up, perpetuating the mental problem of "I've got space/I can make space" endlessly. I've dealt with this from my last two SOs. They see the extra room as storage and keep buying things we don't need or use OR refuse to get rid of items that have been in boxes for the last 20 years because "we've got the space". I'm trying to use the room for our kid, and he's shoving boxes of kitchenware into the closet! We don't have the space, and maybe I want to put clothing in the closets, not boxes of 1980s figurines 😂 When we moved in, he was so excited "look at this big extra room!" Honey. It's 9'x9' (3mx3m). It's not that big 😅 "we can fit the bed, crib, recliner, and shelves in there!" No... no... not even close!
@lauramitchell67259 ай бұрын
@@valeriaswanne I absolutely get what you’re saying and am sorry for your experiences. I may be wrong about the future of this idea but since she truly doesn’t have any other storage,I think it would be sufficiently full ALREADY with her CURRENT necessities,like the camping gear, pet cage,cleaning supplies,fans,etc. along with the clothing racks from the bedroom. Especially if she views it as “the storage/closet” and not “the spare room”. In fact, I actually think that a more empty space like a guest room would lead to MORE room for random stuff.
@JennCadyFiddlyBits6 ай бұрын
And the couch could be used as guest sleeping if necessary. ❤
@darleneh6089 ай бұрын
Food for thought: the reason the doom room got so out of hand is that the stuff that was legitimately supposed to be stored there (camping gear, seasonal decor, etc) was just dropped there in piles rather than being stored in an organized way. If you put the storage stuff on shelves, and smaller stuff in tubs that are clearly labeled, you can sort each category into its own zone and make it easier to get at. Plus, on a shelf you're using some of the height in the room, so that will help maintain access and open space in the rest of the room. When your intentional storage items are stored less haphazardly, it makes it harder to add to the problem by just dumping a few more things on top of the same pile.

He loves to be kind and give things to someone who needs it but cant really organise that practically. I am inspired by April's approach with Dani because she stops her from feeling bad. She doesnt treat Dani like she is different or defective for forgetting where stuff was kept or poorly organising the home. Dani is kind and creative and she must be a great teacher. My partner also likes to teach... I want to praise his skills and creativity more, and will not criticise his messiness after seeing this series of videos. I have been inspired to change my attitude and not to shame or belittle even if I am frustrated by mess. I will no longer say things critically. Thanks Dani for telling us you are Adhd in the first episode because this is a very positive awareness-raising and educating poing for viewers like me ❤

I fully empathize and maybe my recent breakthrough will help in some way... My ADHD clutterbug partner is so stressed by any amount of pressure to declutter, so after too many fights, we finally decided to move to a slightly bigger apartment (850 sq.ft. 2BR) where he could have an office space to himself with his own clothing closet - to serve as a dedicated "container" for everything he's working through letting go of. Now the pressure is off, I only help when asked. We were able to use the moving truck to empty his storage unit as well, so overall rent is similar. Was it frustrating to pack up all that junk for the move? Yes. But is the entire rest of the house now clear and calm? YES. And with that, he is understanding what a fully functional space can bring to both our chaotic lives. Wishing you both harmony in this process ❤

Love this series. She is doing such a great job. I would love to see another pass at her bedroom and do some rearranging to make it easier to get around the bed. I wonder if the ledge thing is big enough for the small 4 drawer cabinets to sit on? And like everyone, would like to see the kitchen and bathroom.

That ledge is so awkward! You would need special shelves built to bear on the floor and the ledge.

sometimes I get so stressed over seemingly still having too much shit, but in comparison to her I am a minimalist. I've been slowly working through my things for the past 2 years and I am finally approaching my goal 💕 these videos are super motivating to continue and not fall back into old habits

My husband is wintering down in south Texas and I am home in Canada I have gone through closets and cabinets my office/craft room/painting studio...and today I tackled the broom closet and the pantry and a few of the kitchen cabinets that were bugging me. I took pictures and videos of what I have been doing and sent them to him. I am leaving on Monday for a short stay in nice warm Texas on Monday so I want to get all of this done before I leave. I love your videos I only found them today as I am doing my own thing I am watching. I am much older but the struggle is real and I have really smashed it while my hoarder husband has been gone. 🤫None of his stuff left the building...lol

Dani, your approach to this whole decluttering is so inspiring! I helped give me better head space for my own project. Great job both of you

Love this - the stare down you were getting from Dani's cat in the last few minutes was SO funny - think he hates the camera. :P

I certainly understand the whole process of accumulating "stuff" I just decluttered about 50 pairs of pants. Plus size also. Each one was a journey to find the 'perfect pair'. Maybe they fit at one time. Maybe I thought I could slim down and fit them. Before the sorting etc I was actually looking on line for more. I have ... 20 left. I feel ya Dani!!!

Good for Dani that she made this commitment to declutter. I can see that the root cause was moving from a larger space to a smaller one without decluttering. Without even considering any shopping problems, the square footage doesn't add up. Her home will be more peaceful when she is done, and the livability will be greater. Yay for her!

I’m so proud of you!!! I’m decluttering as well and I know how hard it can be! Also I’m crying over all the money that was wasted for you - hopefully you can save all that money not buying stuff and treat yourself to a nice vacation! Great job - keep it up! 🎉❤

I feel as though I shouldn’t be watching this right now! Although I’m so excited to sit down and watch it. I watched your first video earlier this morning, cleaning out your wardrobe and it inspired me to stop the video, get out of bed on a Sunday morning and start to go through the pile of clothes that I have land sliding in my bedroom. I got rid of at least 15~20 things so far and now I’m going through a bag of random bits and bobs while I watch. I feel as though I should be just watching and getting your tips not just half watching! I’ve really been inspired by your series. You even look different Dani. I don’t know how long this was over but you look glowing you look like you’ve lost weight you look like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. You look amazing good for you you’ve put in so much time and hard work.

If you have a car: have some shoppingbags in it so you dont have to buy new every time. You can also have one of those thinn multiple- use once in your purse. Good job!🎉

She really doesn't have a hoarding disorder but more of a compulsive spending problem. Run those fans, mold loves stagnant air. Keep going girls and thin out those plants too! Mold loves dirt.
