Unpopular opinion from me: She still has a lot to prove for herself. With the Midnights era approaching its closeout, I can firmly say she has the potential to innovate on a whim. I would love for her to, like folklore's conception, try an experimental route. I would love to see her diving into her favorite music that people aren't familiar with her performing as much like soft rock, R&B, soul, pop-punk, electronic rock, etc. and bring a new energy to her music.

All I can say about Midnights is that if you think it's boring then you simply haven't either lived long enough or experienced enough life. It's a therapy album to me. Maybe because I was finally coming out of a place of extreme trauma. I related to those songs in a way that helped me deal with it. None of my trauma was relationship based either. That is to say not about a breakup. In relating it to my own life it was less about the who and all about the concept of reliving your past to try to heal your future.

I think that has to do with the fact that most of the fans that the brothers have are women most of the 500k viewers that they're getting are either Swifties or just women in general .and so a lot of them aren't interested in football. Which guy has Taylor ever dated was an intellectual person? Listening to her interviews does not show Taylor to be an intellectual. It shows her immature. There are so many examples Listening to her interviews. With her breakups, it seems from her songs that she was in love or thought she was in love and is upset if the guy does not feel it back which is life. There are guys who would be in live with her that she does not feel love back for. That is life. She said in an interview once thar male singers write breakup songs and they don't get criticized but the male singers are writing "sorry I hurt you songs and not badmouthing the girl but putting the blame on the breakup on themselves. With Taylor she went too far trying to ruin a young Joe Jonas. He was allowed to break up with her in a phone call. She did not have someone it seems to teach her that not every guy is going to want her because she wants them and she should move on.

@@florencehaber9847 Taylor usually takes accountability in her music. And not all male musicians sing about being sorry. Have you not heard a Charlie puth or Justin Timberlake song. And honestly people overreact. The percent of songs that bash her exes aren't even as much. Majority are about Harry and I wouldn't really call all of it bashing. Taylor singing about her exes has no effect on their careers. Men like Kanye have a thriving career even with all he put her through. Nothing would happen with joe Jonas. It's a man's world after all

I started out thinking midnights was boring but over the months its become my favorite album knocking long-standing Red off the top of my list. My unpopular opinion is I don’t believe a single song should ever be cut. Not even my least favorite songs… because they’re probably someone’s favorite. I realize this every time someone else says a song they’d cut and it’s one of my all time favorites (ie happiness). More is always more and I will take any song Taylor will give me, even if it ends up being a skip for me personally. Also, people need to stop assuming Travis is dumb. He’s just an athlete. Swifties really hate when people assume Taylor is just a dumb blonde girl who doesn’t pull her weight in writing sessions. How is assuming Travis is dumb because he’s an athlete any different? Every video I’ve seen of him, he appears very kind, well spoken, and very media trained. He’s such a sweetheart with his nieces. People act like Taylor is some stuck up b who spends her whole day at the library like come on. She’s so goofy and fun and likes to party and she’s corny and quirky. Why exactly do we want her with an overly intelligent and stuffy man? I don’t think intelligence is at the top of her list of required characteristics anyway, but who is to say he isn’t intelligent? He could be one of the smartest people she’s ever met. *We don’t know these people.*
@florencehaber9847

@cc1526, I agree about Travis. Some people don't know anything about people in sports and think if they are athletic it means they lack in the brain dept. But that is not true. To be in the NFL and be successful you need to be way more than athletic. You need to really know and study the opposing people you are playing against, you need to remember all plays not just your own but those plays you only did once, and much more. Better is that Travis was brought up by wonderful parents who Travis loves immensely. He is confident, fun, kind, spends a lot of his spare time with the kids that are part of his charity, not just donates money to them. He is known to be kind to everyone and has a great personality. I have not seen Taylor in all the interviews she does as being an intellectual. Travis is very well spoken and is himself which is important. Plus he is used to attention as he and his team have 80,000 people showing up to see his team play and millions more watching his team every week play on TV.

I personally would like TS11 to be released post Era's Tour to have it's own era and I think Taylor would like that as well so she may have the creative control also saying 10 eras seems so pleasing in terms of marketing because it's an even number. I also realized why Lover to Midnights have much larger song numbers compared to debut to reputation is because her newer albums she never really had a tour with them so she's I guess trying to complete the checklist on what an era should have??? I was a little underwhelmed when Midnights came out. Taylor described it as a project her and jack had been wanting to do for a long time, and to me that was clear hearing the overall vibe of the production. I think she really wanted to scratch that itch she got while producing with him for 1989. Its the same vibe I get from songs like getaway car, dont blame me, cruel summer, or even my tears ricochet (and many others tbh). ALL GREAT SONGS BTW. But they all have that very synthy rising up jack vibe. But to me the result was an album that sounded very 2014, very melodrama tumblr the 1975 halsey etc. Quite dated. I think Taylor is late to trends sometimes, like how Reputation at times leaned into EDM which was something kinda dead for 2016. Anyway, after listening to Midnights for the whole year Ive grown to love it and find myself relating to the lyrics a lot. I do however hope she and jack finally got it out of their systems and are ready to experiment with different sounds. We know her lyrics are always gonna be clever and moving and relatable, but im ready for something different!!

The Lakes has always felt like fantasy escapism to me. She wants to be the person who can just disappear with him out of the limelight. She romanticizes it. But it always felt to me like something she wanted because he wanted it and she wanted him to be happy. Since he is so often blue blue blue.

I think Travis isn't smart but he isn't stupid either, but he does give off himbo energy. And sure maybe he really isn't intellectually on the same level as Taylor, but maybe she likes that? She might just want to be with a himbo, I think people just need to accept that.

@@laural3277 Obviously I don't know these people, so everything I'm about to say could be completely wrong. But it's possible he just has other intellectual interests. Taylor is a smart writer and musician; he might be just as smart when it comes to some other pursuit that's more stereotypically male. People aren't used to seeing her date men who aren't also artists. I think that's where a lot of the "he's not smart" criticism may come from.

On the sellout subject, i would say the sellout album is 100% 1989 let me explain: it was the first time she did a drastic shift in her persona/aesthetics/artistry mostly because she lost a grammy (still mourning the loss, Red is still the most deserving grammy album for me), so changing everything you were known for, so you could be more successful and powerful (which led to the infamous overexposure), reads sellout to me, it's an important and influential era, but if we're being serious, if what 1989 achieved, had happened with Red instead, that album wouldn't have been made. And the vault tracks prove my point, those 5 songs are very pre-1989 taylor but with 1989/midnights production.
@nilay_nur
@nilay_nur Жыл бұрын
"If what the... album achieved had happened with the ...album instead, that album wouldn't have been made" is a sentence that applies to pretty much every Taylor Swift album. Every album of hers is a response to the criticism that the previous album got. It is not exclusive to 1989.
@nataliaprador.4760
@nataliaprador.4760 Жыл бұрын
@@nilay_nur fair point, the real comparison i'm making with red and 1989 is that red was closer to the previous three albums sound wise (also still had a diaristic type of songwriting), just in a more mature setting, 1989 is the polar opposite of what she had done, so if red got that grammy and the success she envisioned for it, i don't think she would've shifted for pop (let alone the type of pop she explored which was synth pop and dream pop) for at least one or two more albums.
@nilay_nur
@nilay_nur Жыл бұрын
@@nataliaprador.4760 hmm I disagree. I think the reason for her less diaristic songwriting was not her losing a grammy, it was the media scrutiny she recieved due to Haylor and people getting sick of her making everything about boyfriends because red was all about heartbreak so she took a more distant, light hearted aproach. And yes, I do think her shift to pop would've happened anyway, it was inevitable. It was clear even back then she relaesed a pop mix of teardrops. + Red was also supposed to have more pop songs but Scott didn't allow it. And the reason for her exploring synth pop is her becoming friends with Jack and them bonding over 80s pop.
@nataliaprador.4760
@nataliaprador.4760 Жыл бұрын
@@nilay_nur i'll give you that, but she has proved that she doesn't have to be diaristic to have lyrics that feel as specific as what she used to do (hence folklore and evermore), the events we mentioned were the timing for the complete shift, because one thing was the pop she did before, and what she would do for 1989, it was a completely new taylor, it lines up for the sellout thing, there wasn't a natural growth sonically, it was abrupt and aimed for chart success). I don't want to make it sound like it's a bad thing to do btw, i enjoy some songs from the album.

The one with Travis is not only super rude and disrespectful but SIMPLISTIC and stereotypical. We are not just one thing and just because he is a profesional athlete doesn't mean he is a dumb dumb. Besides there are so many types of intelligence, like emotional, interpersonal, or brain can do well with logical matters or artistic or even spacial/environmental (I'm kinda missing the correct word but Travis must be very aware if his surrounding and feel the environment really well). It really sucks how people want to somehow elevate and praise Taylor by insulting this man...

Agree . The way Travis has handled Taylor's world , the level of media attention, scrutiny, her fans etcc is incredible. He has to be smart to be able to navigate her world in such a short period of time Plus he is a very emotional petson , he is not afraid of crying or show his feelings and for Taylor it must be incredible refreshing and their communication may the better than any other relationships because she is not trying to guess him.all the time.

idk if this is considered an “unpopular opinion” matter of fact an “opinion” at all but i absolutely adore how each taylor album is tied to a specific season like folklore is the bridge between summer and autumn, evermore is autumn and winter, 1989 is summer, debut is spring and summer, red autumn etc. listening to them in their respective seasons brings so much more to the albums and can actually feel and envision every lyric as she describes and the folk sisters and red best capture this feeling. red (stolen) at first was a least favorite of mine til taylor’s version was released and taylor rebranded it as an “autumn” album. once I heard the entirety of red tv for the first time this just felt correct, it now stands in my top 3 albums of hers

Not sure how tracks having a similar or same name has any bearing on how they’re comparable overall. “The Lucky One” and “Lucky Ones” - for example - are certainly different in production, subject matter, etc.
