The older I get the more I appreciate Monica. I think the fladerisation worked a bit for her...they play up her control freak nature and that used to really annoy me...but she is so consistently kind and her control issues make sense when you realise how she lost weight to be treated like a human and her mother was awful to her. Anyway her kindness won out despite her being difficult to be around at times.

I think that's fair. Also, she seems to realize that her roommates need someone to provide some structure in their lives. OCD aside, she's really just being the adult in the room much of the time and making sure that all the things get done to keep a stable home until the others eventually gain some security themselves.

It's not like Rachel chose to become a stay at home mom in some Midwest town, she'll get a job in fashion again, be in the same country as her parents and friends, her daughter will grow up with her father and she'll be with the person she loves.

Rachel didn't intend to announce her pregnancy at Monica's wedding. That's a bit misleading. Phoebe found the test, assumed it was Monica's, and Rachel still didn't say anything. When everyone found out and everyone assumed it was Monica's, she still didn't say anything. The only people who knew it was Rachel's baby was phoebe (who found the test) and Monica and that's because Rachel accidentally took a sip of champaign and had to spit it back out.

Just because we do not see Ross interacting with Ben in the moments that the screenwriters chose to include in the later episodes does not mean that Ross "forgot about Ben." I don't think there is any evidence of that at all in the show.

Well, at minimum, he brought the photos of his two children with him to the Bahamas and talked about them with Charlie, without suggesting that there was any estrangement with either of them. And he always seemed to be depicted as a loving father with good relationships with both of his kids when we did see them together on screen, in my opinion. Maybe there were problems that the show didn't discuss, but that is more just conjecture from fan theory boards than anything that is actually stated in the show, i think.

Oh come on, Ross didn't forget Ben, the writers did. There was never an indication he wasn't a good father to Ben. He was involved, he knew what's going on between Ben and his classmates, for instance. And there was a deleted scene back when he was with Emily, when Emily wanted him to move to London so he tried to convince Carol and Susan to move there with Ben. He clearly cared about his children and was involved in their lives. Rachel was very wrong to just drop this on him, and like with Carol and Susan, the show did not call out this unfair devaluation of his place as the father of the child.

I think it would be much better for Emma to be in a place with two parents as well as other relatives who love her than to be in Paris with just Rachel, struggling to figure out both a foreign language and a probably extremely stressful new job. And Rachel was doing well enough in her career that I have no doubt that she would continue to do really well in NYC. So the idea that Rachel was just giving up her dream so that she could be with Ross seems to me really misguided. Regardless of whether she and Ross stayed together as a couple, I still think she likely made the best choice, and I think that reason is why she made the choice. Which really, if true, would show a lot of maturity on her part, in my opinion.

I have this problem in real life when a former friend confessed to one of my male friends, that I was his FIRST love and the one that GOT away and that he is determined to find a way back into my life, even though now I've had enough of his drama, his sexism, his blatent disrespect of his wife in front of me, causing her to hate me because she thinks i'm competition and his childish attitude that says, if you are the hostess, it's your job to clean up after the guys like you were his Mom. She can still have a thriving fashion career in New York. I know rachel has done a lot of random stupid stuff, but 1 thing that I think was one of the silliest was her dating Paolo. They didn’t speak the same language but she was all over him because he was hot. I’m surprised he was her boyfriend for more than 1 episode, since this relationship seemed purely for sexual tension and thrills. But she gushed about him like he was the greatest. This was probably her most shallow relationship. Or a tie with dating Tag. When she found out he came onto phoebe I enjoyed that realization she came to that she was dating a total sleaze she knew nothing about. He was more like fulfilling a woman’s fantasy of dating a handsome foreign man. It was always so sad watching Rachel destroy Ross's relationships when him and his partners seemed very happy together. (Julie, Bonnie, Emily, Katie) When he would chose her over the other girls he would never let him have her for silly reasons like the list and the letter. She would always leave Ross with nothing every time. You deserved better my dear science boy. Though that is oddly what makes it romantic. Neither one of them could stand the thought of them with someone else and they always found a way back to each other. Ross and Rachel are soulmates. I'm so glad they finally agreed to stay together and raise their daughter at the end of the show.

I would say that this is quite the perfect ending for a character that didn't do anything to get it

Joey and Rachel should have been endgame, what she had with Ross was toxic and so so wrong. They had nothing in common, he was mentally emotionally and almost physically abusive to her throughout the entire show. The fact that she ended up pregnant with his child after all he did to her, sleeping with a girl he fantasised about WHILE IN BED WITH RACHEL HOURS after their fight/break and has the balls to yell at Rachel "Now are you going to fight for us?" Like sorry but didn't you sleep with someone you fantasised about a few hours ago? Why should she fight for someone who is capable of doing that? The amount of times he tries to physically hurt her during the show is scary too, Joey has stepped infront of Rachel so many times when Ross has gone to physically hurt her when he gets angry, its not just once or twice it happens a lot during the show. Joey truly loved Rachel and could never hurt her and would never hurt her, they got along so well and frankly he supported her and loved her for her unlike Ross who had a whole list of reasons to not date her and he undermined her job over and over again when Rachel would go above and beyond for Ross and his job. Ross couldn't get through 45 mins of a fashion lecture but took Rachel to a freezing auditorium for a lecture that lasted hours and hours and she didn't fall asleep or complain once. He even took her there several times when work called him in and had to ruin their date plans to go fix something at work. She didn't complain about that once. You try telling him "its just a job" and see how much hell he would give you for saying that about his work. Plus Joey would have followed Rachel to Paris, this incredible once in a lifetime job offer that Ross happily ruins...also notice how not ONCE does Ross talk about Emma. He never says anything about Emma being taken away to Paris no no...just Rachel. And the fact she calls Ross her best friend? Like sorry but he is a horrible friend a shitty partner and an abusive selfish narcissistic man child who ruined everyones lives and every relationship he was ever in. Frankly Carol made a lucky escape meeting Susan who is amazing and better than Ross in every way. He is a bully to Monica and was beyond awful to her growing up, he was a shitty friend over and over again, he betrayed Chandler so many times its stupid, he looks down on everyone around him and acts like he is better than all of them and smarter than them. He is a truly horrible awful person who does so many unforgivable things it is so unrealistic that people would stay in his life after all he does. Everyone can't stand him! They all hate living with him because he controls everything and is a total selfish asshole, he is a terrible friend, he goes out of his way to ruin so many things and nothing good comes from knowing him. Ross and Ted Mosby are the "nice guys" who go out of their way to try to convince the world that they are nice innocent guys who do nothing wrong and deserve love, yet in reality they are cheating selfish narcissistic manchildren who are awful people and end up with someone who was clearly more suited to their friend! Joey and Rachel, Robin and Barney. They should have been endgame they were so well matched and suited for each other but nooooooo lets ruin those relationships just for this stupid story that doesn't make sense

Who wrote this? Rachel is not entirely likeable, but some of these takes are so ridiculous. Rachel didn't announce at Monica's wedding that she was pregnant. She never drew attention to herself while the pregnancy news spread out of hand. Notice how hurt Monica was when Rachel had a moment with Ross the day she got engaged, but never complains about the pregnancy news at the wedding. Monica grew up too. The day was hers and as long as the girls discussed in private, nobody stole her thunder. In fact Monica considered Rachel taking the pregnancy test her wedding present. About Emma's name, Rachel's instinctively loved it. But used it only with Monica's blessing. Which Monica was more than happy to give to Rachel. Ross never cared for Ben, so Rachel thought it would be OK to take their daughter to a different continent without at least discussing with him??? What an asinine take! Both premise and conclusion.

Come on most of “Rachel stealing Monica’s thunder” were just accidental and bad timing events. The collective hate for Ross and Rachel and extreme babying and coddling of Monica and Chandler is too much!! Monica and Chandler were bullies! Just because they were nice towards eachothers doesn’t mean they were nice with everyone. Chandler was horrible to Janice and sarcastic comments were only funny as long as they weren’t directed at you. Monica was so bad to live with that Pheobe moved out just to save their friendship.

The reason I hate Rachel's ending is because she seemingly only thought about wanting to get off the plane after Ross told her he wanted her to. If they cut the scene of Ross saying "please stay, I'm so in love with you", had Ross be late for her boarding and had Rachel go after Ross without the intervention, it would've been obvious that that's what she wants and what makes her happy. Or even better: have Ross go after Rachel to Paris, because his love for her is stronger than his desire to stay in New York - unlike with Emily, who he was not willing to make that change for, as his romance with her was too hasty.

People always think Rachel left her dream job for Ross, but she kind of owed him after messing with his love life (Ross had jeoulosy issues, but that's normal after what happened in his first marriage). Rachel only wanted Ross when he wasn't available, inadvertedly ruined his wedding and made him take a vow of chastity while she was pregnant. And, by the way, it was obvious they were on a break!!! Even House knew it!!!

I stopped watching Friends after Monica and Chandler got married. By that time, it seemed like the show just wasn’t cool anymore and I was too young to appreciate it anymore. However, I’m convinced that this show would never have worked without Monica. It was Monica’s apartment Rachel moved into. It was her close proximity to Chandler and Joey that made them want to hang out with her and Rachel because they were hot. It was only because Ross was Monica’s brother that her loser neighbors would ever give the time of day to. And it was Phoebe’s ditziness that balanced Monica’s whining and Rachel’s selfishness. I never knew the extent of the latter until I saw this video.

Ross was possessive, controlling and jealous, and Rachel only wanted him when he wasn't available, sabotaging several of his relationships (Julie, Bonnie, Emily, Mona). To me it would've made more sense to keep Ross with Charlie at the end, and not let him interfere with Rachel's big career move.
