Social anxiety leads me to isolate my self from society 3 years ago so I lost my speaking skills and I can feel the effects of not using my voice for a long time. Now thank God i overcome my fears and I’m here doing your exercises before getting a job and start talking to people again. Thank you! 🙏😉

I a retired Home Health Aide ( CERTIFIED) I took care of people with strokes, head injury, dementia and Parkinson's. I did these exercises with my patients I did a lot of encouragement. I very hurt because my son is autistic and never got any exercise for my son and asked told them I was a AIDE, one on one is the best to help people. Thank you for your support.

Hi Shaun, I’m so glad to hear you were able to do these exercises with the people you were helping. These are excellent resources for caregivers helping those with neurological disease in their daily routine. I hope you find the support you need for your son and are able to work with a speech therapist to address his individual communication needs. Keep advocating! 🙌

I wish I found your channel 2 years ago. I'm not going to share my long story here, but my speech became unclear 2 years ago. My tongue became super weak, yet also super tense. I have excess saliva, and dry lips. I have seen a speech therapist for this, but she didn't believe in stretching & doing exercises to help your tongue. I believe the majority of my speech issue relates back to my tongue. I've had such trouble finding actual help.. And even though it's been 2 years, I'm really hoping these exercises make a difference in my speech.

Thank you for your video! Please, any suggestions or modifications for the tongue elevation practice? My frenulum prevents my tongue from curling up towards my nose. How do I modify this practice?
@SpeechSecrets5 ай бұрын
Individuals experiencing discomfort with the frenulum may benefit from trying to not rest the bottom of their tongue on the teeth. Elevate the tongue a little bit when protruding the tongue and moving side to side. Could also practice curling the tongue upwards towards the roof of the mouth or front upper teeth by opening the jaw a little bit.
@DavidH21546 ай бұрын
That is really helpful. I find when I do the tongue narrowing in the third exercise that my tongue is curled upwards in a U shape, whereas yours appears flatter and triangular. Do I just need more practice with a mirror?
@SpeechSecrets6 ай бұрын
I cannot comment on your experience specifically. However, it took me some practice with a mirror to be able to achieve the fat/narrow tongue exercise consistently. Sticking one’s tongue out slightly may also help achieve the narrow position.
@sabinevanliempd67886 ай бұрын
Same here David - the narrowing seems most difficult. I also narrowing my mouth instead of my tongue. We'll just keep practicing!

can this exercise helps a person who has a problem in pronouncing the letter "R"
@SpeechSecrets5 ай бұрын
Hi Nes! These exercises are not specific to individual sounds. However, articulation and sound production requires some tongue strength and range of motion for most sounds. For example, with the “R” sound, the tip of the tongue must have enough strength and range of motion to move upwards and slightly back towards the roof of the mouth. I will be working on an “R” video in the next few months so stay tuned!
