Due to the major changes with X-Plane 11.10, we re-do the Cold & Dark tutorial for the Carenado B1900D, as the previous tutorial I made is now obsolete.

I've had the 1900D for quite some time and have watched this countless times. I'm a poor learner these days but your video was quick, to-the-point, and now I'm enjoying the hec out of this plane! Thank you for this video very much. The 1900D is fast-becoming a favorite of mine as well.

Carenado, in my version of the B1900D, has still not fixed the recog and tail flood light position issue prior to start up. Thanks for the video. It helped me to put together a checklist!

Great job! I was about to hit the buy button over xplane.org but wanted to check if there were any good quality cold & dark tutes first - then I found yours and the decision was easy. Thank you, I really appreciate your effort and I'm really looking forward to flying this plane... 😊

I am glad you liked the video! The only oddity to be aware of for now is that if you land with throttles completely at idle, you will get sucked into the ground at the last moment, regardless of your speed or flare. The workaround for now is to land with throttles engaged about 1/4 way, then you can land perfectly smoothly. Carenado is aware of this and is working on a fix, but Laminar keeps messing with the way props work with every update to the sim. I demonstrate the "issue" in my "Transcontinental Series - Leg 17" video, but then I demonstrate a perfect landing with throttles engaged slightly in a video currently being edited called "Lake Victoria, Africa." Look for both of these videos if you are having issues landing. Most KZbinrs and Twitch streamers claim there is no issue and say that you are supposed to land with throttles engaged in real life, thus the model is perfectly fine, however I have a real life turboprop pilot friend, and he says that you always land with throttles at idle in real life. Interesting disparity between simmers and a real life pilot!

Thanks for the tip! I started watching your Transcontinental series - up to leg 5. :) My eldest son has a few thousand hours flying heavies for Virgin Australia and spent several years on small/medium pistons after his training, then turbos before moving to e-jets and finally the big boys. He agrees with you about the touchdown throttle setting - his philosophy is that during the perfect landing you should be at idle power, then if you your speed is right and you judge your flair right, you should literally float down to the ground in what is effectively a controlled stall over those last few feet. Of course he also says that this is the "holy grail" scenario, and whilst it being the goal for every landing for every pilot, it isn't achieved as often as they would like due to the those factors outside the pilot's control. Anyhow I just followed your cold and dark video again (4th time), but this time went all the way and started my first flight from YSSY to YBCG (Sydney - Gold Coast). I've just turned on the AP so now it's time to make a cuppa and settle in. Bye for now... Mike :)

Ah, a really good instructive tutorial, I purchased and flew the B1900 in X-Plane 10. I recently purchased the X-Plane 11 version and am anxious to follow your tutorial and apply every point. I will most likely use you Cold & Dark instructions to build a clist.txt to work with Bill Sprakers Xcheklist tool. I normally do this for my favorite planes. Again, thank you.

Don't take off with FULL power. 5000 torque is a transient limitation and is only good for 20 seconds. Takeoff power is 3950 ft lbs, which is good for 5 minutes as you said.

Incidentally, on the gyro issue, NoJoe posted an alternative for the Cessna 208 that works well on the 1900D as well, so you don’t have to worry about synching the compasses anymore. forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/131063-heading-carenado-c208-xp1110b1/#elComment_1260435

@TheTallTurtle

Play with the smaller dial to the left of the Alt select for cabin pressure between the pilots' seats. It's not a perfect representation of the cabin pressure system, so you have to stretch your imagination a bit. :)

Why do you turn the standby pumps on and auto ignition on to start the engines? Also I wouldnt be going to high idle until the engine is at idle especialy if the engine is still hot. This happens automatically when you select start. Also it is better to turn the battery on before external power. This ensures the avionics relay is powered off making sure nothing gets a voltage spike when selecting external power. I was a mechanic on these for 8 years and thats how we were instructed.

I'm just going off the Carenado checklist with some of my own nuances. I am aware that starting the REAL aircraft this way would likely cause some issues, but I don't consider this to be a study-level aircraft anyway. The sim is what you make of it, and I am not into the start-up process that deeply. I have friends who have flown this aircraft in real life, and while I have discussed landing processes with them, I never talked to them about starting up the aircraft. I guess I could take your real-life experience into account as well as my friends', but there are other areas of the sim I like to spend my time studying. This video is to get people started in the aircraft. They can take it to a deeper level if they'd like on their own from here. I thought I mentioned that in this video, but perhaps not. I do usually mention it each time I fly this plane these days, though. Thank you for your real-life comments!! I will take your real-life experience into account in the future! Nice to hear from a real-life mechanic!

@@TheTallTurtle Thanks for the reply. I was just curious. We always used to question the pilots procedures on some things because as we knew the aircraft systems we thought they were doing it wrong. They thought we were wrong too because they were using the checklist.

Hi there. Thanks for this video. I am having an issue where this plane is draining only its left tank. I have tried putting the flow switch to the left and turning on pumps on right side only but no joy. It is not a gauge fault either as the plane is unstable out of A/P as if one side is heavier than the other. Has anyone else had this issue ?

Hi, this is a very nice and instructive video. About the B1900D could you please explain how to do this (slaving compass/cage/un-cage gyros): /// * 10. Standby Attitude Indicator & Copilot’s Electronic Altimeter (if installed) - CHECK NOTE When uncaging gyro, avoid snapping knob against indicator. When caging, use minimum amount of force. f. Cage Knob PULL AND ROTATE Clockwise To Cage. OFF Flag In View /// I find Carenado B1900D a little different of some others like F1 B200 with Garmin 1000 so I'm using FSX and having problems about how to or where to press to slave compass, where to cage/uncage gyros.. ...what that means??. I really apreciate some help with this. Thank you

Do you have it mapped to a key on your keyboard or yoke? If so, it might require a different command to be mapped. Something changed for me along the way, so I just use AP engage and disengage within the sim for all the aircraft now instead of my yoke.
