Carrot cake is my favorite dessert, so I was excited to see the different carrot creations that the bakers came up with. Love this show! I found it a few weeks ago and I’m now a subscriber.

When the judges taste the cakes and tarts they seem to waste a lot- big portions, a whole tart each then just try a bit of it. Maybe smaller slices or share one and keep the others for others to enjoy as well. What a yummy job they have to do!

The demonstration cake was too busy for my liking. If I saw that in a bakery, I'd naturally pass it by for something more traditional. But, I did wonder what I'd end up with if I added a bit of carrot puree & crushed pineapple to my own banana bread, which uses sour cream. I substitute raisins for the nuts, which I don't like.

Interesting that the contestants can exchange their pin for a specialty ingredient. I guess that's their advantage in this round.

The constant commercials they have the contestants doing are really off-putting. "I'm so happy with the size of my Samsung oven." "I'm going to use my fantastic Thermomixer now.", "I'm sure glad I have this La Creuset pan!", "Just getting ready to use my Thermomixer again.", "Oh hello Sohail, what have you got in your La Creuset pan?", "Meghan, have you gotten your cake out of the Samsung oven yet?" Jesus, we GET it! Stop already!

I'm sorry but Maynard's cake decorating skills need some work. I LOVE the idea of adding banana to the cake, and I'm sure it tasted delicious, but it looked as though someone ley a kindergartener loose on it.

I know I'm late to the party. I just discovered this show about a month ago. I started with season 3 and worked my way back. I have to agree that Maynard's cake was ridiculous, and I personally wouldn't want to taste it because of all the crap on it. Do you think he ever realized that he created a disaster? Maybe when he watched it on the TV? I would be so embarrassed if I were him. Here he is supposed to be an amazing baker and mentor, but he made himself look like a fool. I know it sounds harsh, but it's the truth.
