I'm so glad that this episode did explain that there's a difference between a macaron and a macaroon. I've heard so many American shows including the judges refer to macarons as "macaroons" even though they're not the same.

Although there's so many - ?! I tend to get a bit uncomfortable with the Afrikaans accent, but that's because after living there I conflate it with the politics

I noticed sometimes the judge and one other contestant will speak another language and other times English. Why the intermittent switching back and forth mid sentence. So confused 🤔
@rachelsavard8513 жыл бұрын
It's basically called 'code switching' - when you're so bi/multi lingual that you naturally flip back and forth. South Africa has 11 official languages, so it's not unusual. What's more remarkable is the lack of switching to 'black' languages, although you can hear it sometimes. When I lived there I always noticed that people speaking Sotho or Twsane would default to english when referencing numbers.

It's a normal and habitual way that multilingual people speak especially in Africa. We are notorious for mixing even 4 languages mid sentence

@@NellyMacharia me and my siblings can sometimes speak in 4 different languages all in one sentence 😂😂🙌🏾. The one minute you can hear what we say and the next, poof its another language. We speak 5 languages fluently 🙈. I consider it a super power

@@shamisomarabwa202 it is a super power and yet the 🌎 makes us think we are stupid because we are not native English speakers. We speak 5 languages from the moment we are born what makes you think adding another language to our skillset is an uphill battle? We will learn it and even be better than you

I think it’s amazing. I love hearing the different languages - I only wish I knew which one is spoken at the time although I know this is meant for SA viewers and they probably know. I’m thinking Afrikaans is what is spoken quite a bit here. As someone from the US, speaking only English and learning a bit of French in school, I think it would benefit anyone who can speak many languages. I would have loved to learn more, especially as a child.

Really khensani? A CAKE for a pastry challenge? Are CAKES the only confection that you can bake? 🙄
@rachelsavard8513 жыл бұрын
Ouch! I wouldn't have said it so rudely, but I agree - it was a cake, not a pastry. But I also admit I still can't get past her cry/quit moment, or the constant sneer (lip pulled up on one side) that constantly displays a level of contempt
