This is what happens when people fail to listen to the protection specialists. We can point fingers all day, but the specialists have said, “I’ll take the hit so you can come home”. They chased the intel over the vetting and made a huge mistake.

Probably a good idea. I’ve always thought that failure is one of the best ways to learn and improve. Provided it’s used as a “teachable moment.” Some people and organizations keep doing what they’re doing and keep get what they’re getting.

So a former delta operator that then went to cia. He goes over how the grs guys kept calling him saying the case officers told them not to search them. To the point the grs guy initially said “I’m not gonna be involved with this period if you don’t want us searching him at the gate”. Well at the last minute guilt set in so he just decided to do whatever he could and hope nothing happened. But they made several phone calls the concern was so high. Because the base at khost had been attacked so many times. Several suicide bombers targeted the gate. So it was fresh. But the key issue came from the cia officers ignoring the security professionals they hired.

It's a WAR dude. Shit happens. No matter how careful you try to be you can die. In fact a good way to get yourself killed faster is to be too careful. In any fight you MUST be ready to take some hits or you don't stand a chance. Take your hit blocking and ducking as much as you can but you don't let the pain and surprise paralyze you. You hit back fast and hard. You learn and adapt to the enemy and penetrate his defenses, he adapts to your defenses. You are killing them and they are definitely gonna do whatever they can to kill you. Things are always changing, the risk calculation is always changing, there is fog everywhere, situations are fluid, whoever adapts faster lives longer. OODA. Who Dares Wins. Stick and move. Nuthin' new here and no GRS guys had some golden insight into the situation, they're just gun goons who don't make decisions.

I was in the area when this mass casualty event occurred. Timing lined up for me to participate in the triage and transport of the injured. I'm not going to go in to detail out of respect and privacy. However, once all the urgent patients had been processed and were in the hands of well trained medical staff...I found myself in a room with an individual who was in the expectant category. This young man was not an American, he was a local. He had injuries beyond the scope of our abilities to save. I think about this man often and have not been able to find out who he was.

Okay… I was at the location (as a cobra) Khost up until 28Dec09, so I met Jen (who hung out at our fire pit) talked to her and Harold many times. Yes there lots of excitement but I remember Clearly the day SouthSide came into our Cobra office and said “don’t search this guy, I know it’s fucked up, but it’s Chiefs decision”. I’ll pause here!! But yes, lots of mistakes were made

I would hope especially by now that there would be very minature concealble devices that have the ability to detect metal and/or explosives so that one need not absolutely make a scene to screen someone? To maintain the "report" between potential assets I mean where you dont want to insult and potentially lose the source? I can see how without such tech it becomes a judgment call....I mean obviously no organization is apt to treat EVERY single person the same way? But potentially even the most trusted people COULD be bringing with them something dangerous and I mean heck it is possible they dont even themselves know! I mean right? I would think one way to cut down on the insult potential would be to frisk even the agents accompanying the asset so it truly looks like "no EVERYONE always ALWAYS get the full screening even the bosses" Seems pretty duhh after this happened anyway hindsight being 20/20 etc
