The early GWOT days are fascinating because ultimately, almost no one had any real combat experience. The lads who deployed in 2001, compared to later, are a completely different species almost. Battle-hardened, experienced and under a well oiled command. JSOC right now, post Afghanistan, probably the most capable it might ever be. 20 years allows likely all your members to experience combat. Certainly wasn't true pre 9/11.

@@picolascage5270 he transitioned out and is now a kindergarten teacher and also coordinates the ROTC program for a local high school lol. It is amazing how someone capable of such extreme violence can transition to a kindergarten teacher lol. He is in his early 60s now and just said he needed to relax a bit and teaching makes him happy. He sure does have some interesting stories and some I thought sounded far fetched until a friend of his that he served with told me a few of the same stories that were told the same way. I really look up to him and he is the reason I am following a similar path..he actually made me excited about SERE. Cannot wait

Interesting twist. Very early on, our SEALS, Rangers, Special Forces, and a couple of our ready brigades were in country, but there was another less-known group who got the call….Drill Sergeants. No Shit. Remember our very early efforts to organize and train the “Northern Alliance”? Guess who got voluntold to go in to train these guys. Normally a job the SF Teams would do with indigineous forces, but they were busy in the mountains tracking bad guys. The first batch was drawn from the Army Reserve.

I'll never forget the Sheriff of Baghdad explain how we had Bin Laden in 2001 but let him slip into Pakistan. We went there for a war and would accept nothing less. I'll never look at my government the same again and definitely will never wear the uniform again. The hatred I have in my heart for those responsible for lying us into 20 years of death is as pure as any hate could be. If I could have one wish in this world it would be to give those responsible the punishment they deserve. Not the boots on the ground but the men who knew the truth, but sacrificed my friends for a lie.

October 2001... when CIA officer Gary Schroen visited Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's Afghan boss (Abdul Rasul Sayyaf) & paid him a $100,000 retainer. Abdul Rasul Sayyaf was 9/11's true Mastermind but remained a 'strongly supported' NATO ally; We were setup. EVERY coalition death in Afghanistan, from Mike Spann to Abbey gate, was a pointless sacrifice on the Military Industrial Complex's alter of profit.

He mentioned Toyota Hi-Lux trucks. That’s something/funny that those things were over there well before the post 9/11 infil. We wondered how they always ended up with the crew cab/4 door ones as they weren’t available in the U.S. Go figure. In the early 80’s right after the Soviets showed up, the Muj amazingly had the old square bodied Land Cruisers, so its ironic that till the end of our ops there that brand of vehicle was always around.

Close - Team Alpha. Jawbreaker was in the Panjshir Valley, controlled by the Northern Alliance. Team Alpha was behind enemy lines in the Darya Suf Valley.
