Tell Asus 60hz is unacceptable. It's a deal breaker for a lot of us. I really wanted this, it gets everything right but with such a GPU, 60hz is just daylight robbery. Would like to confirm if there are 144hz panels during configuration

Having gotten a 120hz laptop last year... I'd say not a dealbreaker for me. You can always plug into a monitor if you want 120hz, and I often turn it down from 120hz to 60hz so it runs cooler and quieter.

I wish they would start putting haptic touchpads on these laptops. For people that use a laptop as a laptop and don't always have them on a table with a mouse connected, a haptic touchpad is a HUGE deal. This is one of the reasons I have found it so hard to switch away from MacBooks.

you can opt for Microsoft laptops as they have good hardware with haptics. I believe Dell XPS have haptics too

@@juffalimac7514 yes I’m very excited about the new surface laptop 7 for that reason. The xps plus has had it for a while but I do not like that laptop. Another laptop that just got an optional one is the x1 carbon gen 12.

I think that they'll release a new Studiobook next year. They made this product as an in-between product until the next Studiobook releases. The 2025 Studiobook will probably have a 120Hz display, the 3D stuff, and a more powerful graphics card.

Having gotten the 120hz Znbook 14 Pro last year... I'd say 60hz is not a dealbreaker for me. You can always plug into a monitor if you want 120hz for gaming, and I often turn mine down from 120hz to 60hz so it runs cooler and quieter. Having it be perfectly 4K is nice for video editing and watching, screen mirroring, etc. I'm drooling over it... but I don't need it... but in a year or two when the RTX 5000s come out I might have to consider if I still need a desktop and a laptop, or should switch to a single laptop like this instead.

yes if you want quiter longer lasting battery laptop. but if u want top of the top class performance on the go, i9 14900hx or ryzen 9 7945hx cpu laptops is the only choice.

RyzenAI 300 series is far superior in everything. And it's even more efficient than Elite X or Apple M4. The Nvidia GPU is obviously more power hungry but give this PC an unreachable advantage compared to arm solution.

Seeing as it's basically like a flow X13, yes, in silent mode for normal daily use, not high intensity tasks, it is basically noise free, maybe you will hear the fans turning on and off in a quiet library, but in any other setting, you probably won't even notice it.

Surely they'll have different screen options? Even then I have an external display. I'm hearing "decent battery life!". Especially with a 90wh battery and a Ryzen! AND it's got a 4070?! AND it's thin and light?! How is it so light? Magnesium? Or plastic?

Thinner? The side by side comparison showed something else. Measure at the thicket point, not the thinnest. Love that the display is OLED, hate that it is 60 Hz. 120 watts, so it can run for 45ish min on battery. Or maybe it can't performe at 100% on battery which should make it desktop/laptop hybrid.

It is thinner. This laptop is just a renamed version of the already made laptop “zephyrus g16” which is thinner and lighter than a MBP of the same size. I would like to note that the difference is very minor so both are portable for their size and you can’t really go wrong with either.

Also, 120 watts is only when using Max gpu, not web browsing, video watching, or the vast majority of business or leisure tasks. But when you do need that full power, it's so nice to have it available.

Your videos are great but as soon as you said 60Hz, my interest and reason for watching vanished xd. What a crazy decision, all the color accuracy the certifications, the density. None of it matters if you can't use the machine comfortably. What a waste :(.

If I wouldn't have bought a ThinkPad P1 G6 about 10 months back, I'd seriously consider this. AMD platform over all the over thin and light mobile workstation machines is tremendous. No other )low power) screen option though - would love a WQHD matte resolution screen on this.

Does it have a haptic touchpad? Also I really wish it came with the G16's 240hz OLED as an option. I really wanted to get the G16 but I absolutely need more than 32GB of RAM (48 or 64GB) but 60Hz in 2024 is a total joke on a laptop this expensive. Even Dell and Apple both have 90/120hz options.

Great review! Subbed, and looking for a P16 to purchase! Have the older ProArt with a 3080 ti in it, and was not blown away to be honest. About two years old at this point, and this is a great time to upgrade, shave some weight, add some battery life, and stream in AV1!

Asus has gaming laptops covered from every single angle. The 60 Hz doesn't matter for design and 3-D modeling. The color accurate 4k screen and 4070 does. A MacBook Pro M3 Ultra ties the 4070 on benchmarks and is twice as much. I can't imagine this will sell well, there is however a very specific market for it.

This seems to be one of the best laptops on the market, I see only few downsides: - lack of ethernet port so you'll need to buy an adapter, - proprietary power connector, so if your power adapter dies you'll probably need to get a very expensive replacement - 60Hz, well for some people, for me not a dealbreaker, would have been just a nice addition to have a higher refresh rate, but not that required IMHO. I wonder if it is upgradable RAM and SSD wise, hopefully it's not soldered and if not how easy it is to open and replace the parts.

No decentered keyboard because of an annoying numpad, 64GB RAM' and 2Tb storage. AI chip. 470 Graphics for machine learning. Install Linux on it and you have the perfect machine for a developer. I am drooling.

A real shame this laptop doesn't seem to have any mention of peak brightness in hdr, that's a red flag and it's likely just a WCG panel that accepts hdr signal but can't display high brightness peaks :( And 60hz as well. Maybe next release will be more tempting over a MBP. We need competition.

I'm conflicted by this laptop. They add a discrete graphics option, inclinating gaming use, but then give it a 60hz screen? Now, give it an X Elite processor option and it would make a great windows business laptop with that level of connectivity and extended battery life.

So nice to see you are about to do a full review on these! Please PLEASE! When you do battery life testing, do test "regular" office tasks and browsing the web. We all know that if you game or render a video; anything GPU-heavy it will be abysmal battery life. But I'm more interested in how is it to work on or just watching a movie during a long flight? Is it possible to turn off the 4070 and rely fully on the integrated graphics to mimic a normal ultrabook when not requiring the 4070? Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback! I usually use full screen video at 200 nits of brightness as my standard battery test as it tends to be easier going on power consumption. Generally I get similar battery life from light office use too. You can turn off the 4070 completely but it's usually best to leave it to switch automatically

Unfortunately, battery life is just so important to me and nothing at the moment can beat the 16inch Apple silicon MacBook pros with similar features and performance. The Snapdragon X elite shows much promise for the future with more powerful ARM CPUs/GPUs not just there yet.

You can't spec a laptop with a 4070 and a 4K screen and than only have it run at 60hz. That's a real missed opportunity. If they offer a higher refresh screen next year I'll be all over this, for now I'll stick to the 2024 G14.

Almost a non issue on oled which has much less latency much better black levels contrast and color and screen uniformity. However it can output 8k 60 4k 120 out the latest hdmi 2.1 for your game monitor or tv and it has touch and pen support the fastest SD card reader editing knob finger print coating white 4070 for games 3d etc 32 GB base memory upgradeable ssd

Yeah I don't "game" with the laptops (I have my desktop system for that), but 120hz really feels good even for working with office apps and browsing, so in 2024 we would expect that. Overall, a great laptop for those who have not been spoiled with 120/144 yet 😁😁

I appreciate tech reviewers calling the windows laptops mac book equivalent etc. i have fully switched to a macbook pro 14 last week after going through 5 windows laptops in the last few years. Yes I miss windows but a laptop is supposed to be portable and not drop battery life by 50% 6 months in.
