Great video! I'm looking into switch back to a smart home! First was back in the 90s with the good old Radio Shack switches! Miss them! :) But what I need now is a switch that can control a room that has no lighting other than one switch that turns the outlet on/off. I should be able to replace that one switch to remotely turn lamps on and off... This should be a simple project yet still looking around to see what would be the best to get started to bring my new home up to speed. :)

You need to do a 'switch plate screw alignment'. All of the screws should have the slot running up and down. Otherwise great video. 😆

Came here to say the same thing. Seeing all those screws at random angles made my eye twitch. 🤣

Retrofited my new home as well with Claro and Diva Caseta switches in my home the same way, they are reliable indeed and work well with the automation, especially leaving and coming back home. 2 quick tips to share, as per the electrical code the screws on final face plate need to vertical. I also used painters tape to wrap the top and bottom metal tabs on the Claro and Diva switch up before installing them then removing them after I partially screw them into the wall because those metal tabs can scratch the wall when we are try to move the actual switch out of the way to fish and connect wires. Taping the wall near the outlet with painters tap is another option, but sometimes may peel the paint off. Great Vid!

I have multiple switches in every room for cam lights, fans and lights on the fans. I also have a HomePod mini in every room. I’m looking at getting Lutron shades next.

Is there a way to make remember the last brightness or allow to set default brightness?

Question that's not really addressed in vidoes that I've seen, is there any requirements of the type of light bulb that is used? Will I just be using the Lutron app for on, off, dim and timer features and have to use a brand lights app for color, synching, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Lutron dimmers will handle incandescent, halogen, CFLs that are rated for dimming, and LEDs rated for dimming. Yes, I am qualified as I am both a Lutron user and a retired lighting engineer.

Can you use the pico remote with the dimmer switch… without a hub or smart home system?
@The-Friendly-Grizzly
@The-Friendly-Grizzly Ай бұрын
Yes. You pair the Pico with the switch directly; you don't even need a Lutron hub to pair them. But, if you do use the hub, the Picos will show up in the app.

Can you connect the Lutron Caseta and Diva Smart Switch directly to home assistant without the hub?

No the hub is necessary for initial home integration set up.

Very nice video, however how do you incorporate any of these switches with 4" recessed RGB+CCT Downlights? I want to be able to control color temperature during the day vs. evening from an app. During the day I want daylight, after 9 PM I want warm whites. However, I have yet to find a "smart" switch that I can program to merely blackout the lights while leaving them energized or disengage the blackout when walking into a room. Very simple task but so overlooked. Guests and other members of my household are not technical and asking them to open an app on a phone each time they walk down a hallway (or say Siri...) is unrealistic.

I think what you are asking things to do, you would need a "button", not. a switch. No switch can do what you are asking Lutron or otherwise.
@SLSInstall

@@jeffreymayes907 Probably correct, a button that looks like a switch that can be programmed to do "blackout" in that room.

What light brands did you use with the caseta switches?

You can use anything with these switches! I’ve been using a mix of different brands as long as they fall within the specifications set by Lutron

@@TheTechVengers I have bought for the places where I want the dimming to be perfect, the commercial electrics from home depot, but they are expensive. So the rest of the house I was thinking about getting the ones I see on amazon with tons of reviews, AMICO or something like that, but I’m not sure if they work great with Lutron based on the reviews I tried to read. Great vid!

I have hundreds of these in my properties including my primary residence, which is a large custom "luxury mansion" if that even means anything. I opted out of the high priced custom options for home integrations such as Savant, Crestron, or C4 because they essentially do the same thing, and will often use lutron products.

Lutron has no say in how my video turns out. I was the one who reached out to them to see if they wanted to send me some before buying them myself. They just send it to me and hope for the best. They have a reputation for having the best and most reliable smart switches in the world for a reason…

None of the Caseta line comes in satin, which is a huge fail by Lutron. Similarly, you can get 15amp TR duplex receptacles in satin, but not 20amp! So stupid.

hue lights do all the same
@The-Friendly-Grizzly
@The-Friendly-Grizzly Ай бұрын
Hue is also proprietary, the lamps are expensive, and the Hue is limited in its automation abilities. I find Hue's quality to be second to none (I use some because I wanted to try them out) but I still use a Hubitat C-8 for my automations.
@jeffreymayes907

What are you talking about? Hue is lighting (and very crappy tactile control), Lutron is tactile control and the best you can get.

@@jeffreymayes907 Lurtron is, indeed, an amazing product line. I just wish their Caseta line used screw terminals and not pigtails. Even cutting the leads short and using Wagos instead of wire-nuts it clutters up the box and is a really tight fit.
@jeffreymayes907
@jeffreymayes907 11 күн бұрын
@@The-Friendly-Grizzly I hear you, but Lutron is not alone in this. Leviton, Legrand and Eaton all use pigtails. No idea why.

@@jeffreymayes907 Oh, I know about the others and they are eliminated. I am relocating to the southwest, and will do my new place in either Zooz or Inovelli. Screw terminals, solid reputation, and no extra box hanging off my home automation like I would need with Lutron. Lutron has been solid in my present place, but I don't want extra boxes, and don't want to fight tightly packed junction boxes.

Lutron is far behind and are FAR from the best switches. There's Thread switches now that'll run circles around Lutron switches without the need for hubs, reduce the load on your router/network while simultaneously improving your mesh network with each Thread device you add. This is obviously a pseudo-sponsored vid.
