WHAT! I live in FL and I go on day road trips all around the state. I’ve been all over the Panhandle area and to be completely honest, I purposely try to find off-the-beaten-path places where I can add my Pokémon to gyms in Pokémon Go that will last a long time because no one else goes there (yeah, I know, pretty cringe). Sometimes I go down many mile long dirt roads with little to no cell service. It is scary as hell that I was by myself wandering around areas very near where this took place and I knew nothing about it.

IF this is a real cult, it probably had one of two outcomes. 1, the cult's activities and beliefs escalated to the point that they went the way of ritual unalive. 2, the group fractured due to ideology disagreements, power struggles, or something along those lines; and the members dispersed and the cult is no more. As to the red spray paint on the trees - it looks like when those guys that maintain trees beside roads come through and mark certain trees for removal. I couldn't tell if the marked trees were dead or damaged but if they were that'd point towards my theory.

Born and raised in Tallahassee and have never heard of the hell’s gate cult. Interesting and btw you guys are nuts for walking through the woods in this area at night without a weapon. Black bears, snakes, panthers and a ton of other creatures. Depending on how close to water you are you might even have an alligator or two. Mosquitoes and gnats might be the most evil thing in those woods though.

I got some creepy pasta for you, Devil's Gallow in Russell springs KY. Rumors went as follows, a cult of Satan worshipers would do animal sacrifices there. As a child we would drive back there as it's a gravel road that leads to creeks etc, several times you would see dogs hanging from trees. No joke, I saw it with my own eyes when I was around 9 or 10. I feel like the dude who told ou about all of this likely planted the book and witchy looking stuff. The book does look like a legit book of shadows though so props on realism if my hunch is right. Otherwise I would be more worried about messing with the stuff because the people who put it there may be unhinged (if they were the ones hurting themselves, one another, animals, and possibly/likely others.) There is no proof that curses and stuff are real but humans who flip out over people touching their stuff is a very frequent occurance. Edit: to add to this, the book of shadows gives more credence to the idea that it was set up like that. A book of shadows, to a Wiccan (I was Wiccan for years) is basically a sacred journal full of poetry they wrote that they believe are spells. I was a green/white witch so most of mine were stuff to make me feel calm amd happy. It kinda works in a sense that if the words make you feel happy, then you will feel happy and the spell will have worked. Most wicca is basically like that. Most of it is meditation and focussing on our senses and feelings. But I digress. My point in this edit is that a witch would not have willingly left their BOS behind. It's basically like a part of them. They carry it with them most places and if someone else reads it it almost feels like they're encroaching in on your privacy in a way. Either something scared the people away or it was staged.

I know what that book is. “Book of shadows” is a book for a witch or Wiccan to write down spells they’ve discovered or made themselves. It’s their collection for their own personal use. So you picked up a book with spells. I’m a Wiccan but there is no sacrifice in my practice. The symbol on the front is a triqueta and with magic it commonly represents the body, soul, and spirit working as one.
