I'm going through a similar playthrough: my megacorp empire has invited to join a a federation that had reasonable allies and good trade deals and immediately declared war on the opposing Axis alliance. 10 years into the war one of their empires began struggling from an AI revolt, allowing our fleets to push into the galactic northeast, taking a few dozen systems. Unfortunately my spiritualists government shunned robotics and machines taken from enemy terriroties began to go rougue as soon as claimed territories began to stabilize. However my core sector remain safe as the AI system were largely sandwiched between allied and enemy federations with the only access being a gateway patrolled by a 230 ship strength fleet because I could not care to support any empire sprawl (megacorp has a 50% additional penalty) anyway and left those capitulated systems (which I threw all unemployed non-native to) assimilated by the AIs. Halfway through the fed/axis war two of the fallen empires reawakened and empires from both federations have partially vassalized them with me deciding to not ally with either sides, angering both awakened. With another AI revolt in an allied empire occurring at the same time the galaxy descended into a six way war between two federations, two empires, two AIs (one of which has joined my temporary anti empire coalition despite being at war). With most of my borders relatively deep inside neutral/allied territories I ammased all the ships I had reaching a 690k fleet strength as well as a pacifier colossus (divine enforcer only adds to empire sprawl when I don't actually want more colonies) I jumped right into their undefended homeworld and turned their home system into a galactic showroom and proceeded to decisively cut off their supply chain. I would curb overpopulation by resettling refugees, robots and other undesirables into distant colonies recently taken by allied fleets, demolishing all districts and building and letting them revolt or taken in by axis counteroffensive so that they have to take care of the problem instead. The wars ended after nearly 50 years and I immediately abandoned all the shielded/cracked planets I had unwillingly claimed to stabilize my economy. Half of the galatic east have been rendered uninhabitable from my colossus attacks and at least two empires have broken off from our federation so I can tell there is another war in the horizon soon. Oh there was also the bird khan but I was never in contact with them as their empire was swiftly absorbed by the axis just before the federation war.
