Love the experiments. The more I can make myself, the better I like it. You taking the time to go through the processes and showing the results helps so much.

Thanks for this. I've just bought 20 foam scourers for £1 to have a go at this. This is a very timely new series of tutorials/experiments.

I was going to pull bits off each sponge to leave me with rough hedge shapes, but this looks a lot mor fun and effective. I am pondering leaving the scouring pad on some of them and chop them up for ground cover, so I will get tiny bits of foam with little bits of scourer for added texture.

Another thing I was thinking of was trying to use some scourer to make plants. Putting glue on one side of the scourer and dipping it in coloured flock.

Yeah, that's a very good tutorial! The comparison of different materials helps to see how the different materials work together. I'm also surprised that the sponges don't stick together and expected them to dry hard.

Hey Mel. Try this ratio for your mix: 60% pva, 30% paint, 10% water. With the added water it soaks through much better. And consider blending the foam to smaller bits. The average foam clump when Im making it is probably 3-4 milimeters across before I consider it ready. The glue will give you the actual clumpyness(for lack of better word) Speaking of the foam the best source IMHO is kitchen sponges with that green coarse side. When you blend them that coarse green stuff adds a little extra something to the final product.

Irtehdar I'm actually looking at larger clumps at I typically go for larger clumps around 1-2cms as I can always pull them apart. I've tried water in the past and found it not oppac enough but that's just me. Interesting idea with the kitchen sponges, I'll give it a try :-)

TheTerrainTutor Yeah not absolutely thrilled with the choices of flock or clump foliage here :( Anyway I'd prefer something that looks a little different to stock flock.

Great video as always Mel. I was thinking... what if you really squeeze the foam into a small ball, will this help to get the paint into the centre of the clumps? Just an idea, not really sure, but might be worth a try? Looking forward to more of these videos, they are really great.

So, did u use 1 ml glue and 9 ml paint at the end? Seems to me, that glue is not that important. What if you add some water to the mix, will this help to soak/dye it all the way to the core?
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 9 жыл бұрын
lichtsuchender Not having glue definitely affects it but the paint has a binding agent in as well, watering it down sort of defeats the point so it's actually better to just reduce the quantity of foam mate :-)

Another great vid. I'm curious, when you blended it how did it affect your blender, as-in did you use your normal kitchen blender and did all the foam come out OK? Not trying to have the wife upset ya know

What's the purpose of pva here? I've seen foam clumps made only with paint, but no one actually bothers to tell what difference the pva makes
