I did do a fudge with some sand, pva, off white paint and a touch of blue. Then used the snow flock for a Star Wars character. It worked but I will try these tips to vary the mix.

I like using tiny bits of Diamond Glaze for crusty ice, especially on buildings, objects, or other small areas. It "crushes" well.

I love these winter terrain tutorials. I'm using your techniques right now to build frozen bay game table, after reading about the Battle of Texel in 1795, when a bay froze so hard, it caught the Dutch fleet in the ice, and French Hussars rode out on the ice, and captured the whole fleet. This is the only battle in recorded history where both naval and cavalry forces clashed in combat. Should make an interesting board and game scenario all round. Thanks for all your amazing tutorials and inspiration.

Glass resin filler, Mel. With gloss medium and good white acrylic. Itchy as eff and you need a mask, but looks the biz. Love that icy ground, chap.

Thanks for the video it's extremely useful. The majority of videos I've seen to do with winter scenes are primarily snow related. I've been looking for a video which gives tips on ice and frost as I'm wanting to model a very cold frost, and not snow. I'm thinking if you swap out the Mod Podge for Acrylic Gloss Gel Medium, you'll be able to get some really interesting texture and mass, which I imagine would be great if you were looking to do some sort of terrain/diorama representing a place that rarely, if ever, thaws completely. I'll definitely find plenty of projects to put these techniques to use on!

Hello Terrain Tutor! I have a question. What is the material that you use to cover the sides of the terrain table? I always see a 'black' cover used to protect the foam used as the terrain base in the laterals, but I don't know if it's plastic, wood... What's the best way to protect the terrain sides? Thanks in advance, I'll start my own project and your tutorials are helpful to me ;)

Any fine crushed glass will do bud and a glossy medium would work fine

All i could really see was the respirator on the wall and wonder why you chose not to just voiceover and not risk the glass particles in your lungs..... Otherwise the technique is bang on to what secret weapon demoed and looks great.

That got me twitching in my chair as well, especially when he didn't close the pot after mixing and left it open all throug the video... That stuff will murder your lungs.

I was always warned NOT to handle the crushed glass with bare hands. Isn't it risky doing it like that? o.O ??

yes but you risk yellowing, normally it's dealt with with white paint but it won't work in this application
