Happy with my Omega. Walked in and got great service then tried on a few other watches, paid them the money and we shook hands then I walked out. A week ago I was visiting my AD. Just wanted to say hello. One of the sales ladies said oh we just got in a sea dweller, two tone. I'm waiting for just the all SS. This is amazing, my AD already received a Rolex. A sea dweller showing up at an AD that is a 14 hour hour drive to the ocean. At least Rolex's are starting to trickle into the AD. My AD is family owned. They own over six stores. The AD does not do sale orders over the phone, no credit numbers over the phone, they do not move their watches from store to store. When a GMT comes in, it stays at that store. If a flipper comes in from the middle east. They say no, the store only sells to locals they know. Now the odds go way way up for getting the sport watch we want.

you use, as an example, frequent air travellers getting priority over others for upgrades. however, they aren't selling those "upgrades" on to make a fast buck unlike many loyal customers who walk out the AD's door and straight to a grey dealer. this is at the expense of those who want a Rolex to treasure and have as a family heirloom.

Christmas Eve I walked into a brand new Rolex boutique in Vegas. I was at the mall ONLY to pick up an online order at the Apple store. I was the only customer in the store. I had NEVER been there before. The young guy working there didn't know me from Adam. They had their regular watches in the window and the cases inside the store. I asked if he had anything else available. And he asked which model. I replied 40mm YachtMaster in Navy dial. He responded, "let me check". He went in the back came back and said, "Here you go". I was shocked. Hehehe I held it, looked at it and admired it's beauty but felt it looked much smaller than the photos I've seen before. (I'm a Batman wearer). I said anything else you're hiding back there and he responded which model? I said the new 41mm Blusey. He said, "let me check". Sure enough he returns with one and says, "Merry Christmas". I was taken aback! Now, here I am with the Holy Grail Submariner Blusey at the very beginning of an upgrade to the model and basically he was calling my bluff. I had no choice. I plopped down my credit card and bought the damn thing!!! HAHAHAHAAA I went to the mall to spend $1200 on an IPhone and ended up spending ANOTHER $15,400 with tax on a watch I was not really looking to spend. I felt compelled because of this AD wait list exclusivity BS. So I feel your pain. You can't deny an AD offering you a piece that they would normally hold for a "long term customer".

Yeah, I'm a Porsche guy and have shared this analogy before on watch forums. Back in 2016 when the GT3 RS came out there were huge waitlists for that car. The really good stuff you need to be invited to buy based on past purchase history. It's this way with a lot of luxury goods, not just Rolex. The difference with cars though is that the dealers are less constrained on the selling price, so on hot models they will often just add a "market adjustment" of $20K to $50K or more additional cost. I'm glad the Rolex AD doesn't do that, I'd rather wait and get the watch without the markup, but with Rolex you at least have the choice - wait or go grey.

The whole AD game and preferred customer stuff is difficult. My experience has been pretty starightforward, I bought my first Rolex last year, I had no previous history with the AD. I rang up and enquired after an Explorer. I got told that should not be a problem and 5 days later I got a call saying they had just had a shipment in and there was one availible. Maybe I was lucky, maybe I made my own luck by engaging with the AD, I think that asking for an Explorer (Which I love) meant I wasn't asking for the moon, so it was achievable. Now I am a valued customer with a previous sales history so I asked if I could buy a ND Sub. I was told that the wait would be a bit longer but they would get me one. 4 months later I got the call and I now have a brand new 41mm ND Sub, I wore my Explorer when I went to pick up the Sub and they noticed and asked how I had been getting on with it. (Also demonstrating to them that I am not a flipper) I had a long chat with the AD told them how much I appreciated the service and asked if I could be put on the list for a GMT BLNR. They told me that wasn't a problem and in the follow up email regarding the Sub told me they had done so. We will have to see how long the wait might be. At no time was it suggested that I might like to buy something else that I didn't want. I doubt that I would have got on the list for a Sub or GMT so easily if I hadn't bought the explorer. The people I feel sorry for are those who have saved and saved and only want to buy one watch, maybe they have always dreamed of buying a Sub. How will they ever get one?
