Walked into my local Rolex AD. Explained that I’m not loaded, but I’m retiring from the armed forces after twenty odd years and wanted to treat myself to a keepsake that I wasn’t going to flip and wanted to hand down to my son. Had a really good chat over a coffee with the brand manager. He said he’d see what he could do. Rang me back three weeks later and I went in the next day (about a month ago) and picked up my stainless black sub date. Absolutely fantastic experience. I’m going to save up for my next one and go back to the same place.

Don’t let Lenny get you down....yes, you drink. I drink when I watch your videos 😅. I work as a paramedic in the US. Like most in my field, I work 60 to 70 hours a week and have pretty much one day off every seven days. I am in my 28th year in my profession and I have no complaints....I see stuff that most people can never think about or dream of. But, I leave that behind me when I get in the car to leave work and drive home. When I’m home, and my family is fast asleep, I pour a glass of wine and watch a video about Rolexes. It is one of many things that I do in my off time that bring me happiness. Thank you for the great content, and as always, I look forward to the next video. 👊🏻

Having two Rolexes, they are obviously well constructed and durable but there is no exclusivity to them. They are not worth the brain death of figuring out how to acquire a new one.

i bought my first Rolex Submariner Date nearly 15 years ago and I certainly remember there was a lack of Sports watch’s even back then. Saw the watch in the shop window on Bond Street, had literally just been put out, so I was told by the shop assistant. Needless to say I bought it immediately! I paid £2,250. List price. Thanks for this video and your others. I just recently bought (July 2nd) a Rolex Explorer 214270 from an AD. I chock it up to some advice you gave and some luck. At the beginning of June I first entered my AD, had a good conversation with the rep, and asked to put my name on the list. She said they hadn’t had any new stock since the pandemic began, but she was hopeful they would be getting something soon. I then went back in to visit once each of the next 2 weeks. And then I visited with my wife who specifically mentioned it was for my 50th. We had nice conversations. A week later the rep called me to let me know my watch was available and I pounced. I took your advice to build a relationship and I’m absolutely sure that helped a lot. That and the fact that the 214270 is not as popular as the Submariner and other factors played in my favor, no doubt. That said, now that I have a purchase history with the rep, I feel that if I wanted another Rolex sports watch, I’d have a pretty good chance of getting a call when one is available.

It was 2016 when my brother and I got our first Rolexes. I had my eyes on a GMT and he was targeting the Sub "No Date." Without any appointments and not making any calls, we visited 4 AD locations in a day. 2 of them had the 116710LN available and on display while the other 2 had the 114060... I was even able to get an 8% discount on my GMT while my brother hot his Sub at full retail. Those were the days! Only the Hulk, the Batman, the Daytonas, and the like were hard to come by while the "standard" black GMTs and Subs (& even the polar Explorer II) were on shop windows. Certainly not the case anymore. Cheers!

Got my date sub in Greece in 2016 at full retail as well. Called 3 days before I got to Santorini, the AD held it for me and I picked the sub over a GMT. Those days will come back for sure.

Totally agree on the name thing ....it’s the updated Batman ! I don’t own one so no agenda but for me the guys that had the original Batman christened the new one the Bat girl to protect their own investment . All the moaning about the heavily scratchable centre links in the oyster bracelet pre updated model . No mention of that now. I suppose it’s human nature. That said call it what you want imo the jubilee bracelet is how the GMT should have been presented from history and is the best version. If I had a choice I know which one I’d pick. 👍🏻

(same as pp or lv handbags). whoever wants to cure the bubble by wishful thinking may be stuck in denial phase. want one? pick between waiting list (at future, higher prices) and premium price today. tertium non datur and complaining means whining. I wrote all this redundant stuff only to (partially) tell how I find this video utterly outstanding. no, sorry... a masterpiece, that I will keep sharing, thank you, man!

I live near Madison MS USA. I got interested in watches over the last year or so. Got a Hamilton Navy Scuba, Seiko SKX and then an Oris Diver 65. Really watched your videos, Bark and Jack, Just One More Watch, etc. Visited by AD a few times during the local COVID lockdown in March 2020 (Mask and SD required). Took two visits to get on a waiting list. One month later I was called out of the blue and offered a new Rolex Sub Date 116610. I committed immediately and 2 hours later it was on my wrist. "The same as being struck by lightning....twice.). Awesome

Great ending Leonard. Per your advice, I am moving away from the Rolex mass manufactured overhyped “brand” to a true “watchmaker” that hand manufactures, polishes, and engraves only 5,000 watches per year. If only watch fanboy “collectors” would stop hoarding Rolex watches only to keep them in safe deposit boxes (ahem), then everyone that wants a Rolex could have one. 😉 It’s that old mindset that, “It’s not enough that I am successful; others must fail.” Great video!

The Hamilton tickets comment is the take away message of this video. And I can relate to that as I finally was able to purchase my grail watch, the 39mm Explorer I , at a Rolex AD a few weeks ago. In my long hunt for this watch, the single most important thing I learned is the true meaning of exclusivity, ie, available to only select few people. As Oisin says, not everyone with money in their pocket can get Hamilton tickets. You also need patience, personality, and a whole lot more sometimes, even luck.

Now that was some funny shit. So true about being a good customer. We walked into our AD looking for sky dwellers and our seller whispered, what about a Yachtmaster II in steel? We said yes please but she then whispered, we are holding it for another customer but the reserve ends in 15 minutes and they haven't shown up. So, we chatted for 15 mins, got the watch and as we were walking out a snobby breathless old lady came in looking for her yachtmaster. We just smiled at our dealer as they held the door open for us to exit. Sometimes the sun does shine on my ass!

It’s insanity. I love to hear about how the purchases are rationalized. Some of my favorites are: “It’s a great investment.” “It’s a good tool watch.” “I’ll be able to pass it on to my kids someday.” I’ve got nothing against someone buying what they want at any price but at least be honest with yourself about why you want it.

I travel quite a bit and make a habit of visiting Rolex authorized dealers at every destination (pre-Covid, by appointment only now). Believe it or not some of those “sought after” watches are available out there. I’m not looking for the sub or the hulk or the batgirl. But I’ve been offered each of those watches several times after just walking into an AD’s shop with no prior relationship. These watches are not unique by any stretch of the imagination but it does take patience and time to secure them. If that is what you want rest assured that they are attainable.

Loved the bit at the end. I don't understand why people would want to have the same watch as everyone else. Right now in my collection I own a Omega SMP 300 in the midsize version, and a Baltic Aquascaphe Sb01 (really fantastic microbrand), and I hope to own the Tudor BB 36 Two Tone, a Dominos Oyster Perpetual, a Fears Brunswick, and my grail the Santos de Cartier medium in yellow gold. I was one of those that was struck by lighting. Bought my first and probable only Rolex on the 24th of the July for my 50th BDay, which was actually back in January. I walked into the AD in my hometown just to look at what might be available. I jokingly mentioned wanting a Submariner and he said let's go take a look. While walking back to take a look he said they have a Black Submariner that was just received about 30 min prior and its under the glass . I asked if it was for sale or is there a waitlist for it? He said NO waitlist and its available. The owner of this particular AD doesn't do waitlists. The store was closing in about 30 min and I said I would be back tomorrow. They held the watch until lunch the following day and needless to say its mine and I couldn't be more thrilled.
