OK, I almost didn't comment on this, because in my opinion the DW6600 is without a doubt the best Casio EVER. Parts availability: yes. Durabiiity: yes. replacable part availability,: yes. Waterproof down to 200', repeatably, for sure: yes.Simplicity, and ease of reading (large numerals), without revolving circles and such, yes. And the backlight; you mentioned how it was over bright, but what you didn't mention is that it serves as an incredible assist when navigation an area without illumination. It's bright enough to read a newspaper, or check to find something in a cabinet, etc. I really thought about posting this for sometime because I don't want the availabilty to parts to become difficult, but I have enough of them to last me the rest of my life, I suspect. Plus, the case and band is is cheap and the same for two other models which for some reason are more popular, and the movement is virtually indescructable for these babies. Oh yea, and although rather thick, it's no where as massive as some of the later models. Just saying, mate.

The GD-350 is worth your time. If you are a fan of this one, it will be right up your alley. Super legible in the positive display versions, light button where it should be, vibration option, world time is easy to use, and did I mention how legible it is? For under $75 almost everywhere, would be great to see on the channel.

DW-5600 and DW-6900 series G-shocks are still some of the biggest sellers, in 2020. Just as simple as they've always been, but cheaper. And plenty of them have solar and atomic sync as well. LCD screens have also improved over the years. Can't go wrong with the GW-M5610 / GW-B5600.

I have a similar story. My dad had the 6600 just like yours in the early 2000’s. I liked it so much that I got one of my own. I think they were around $60-$75 at the time. I can’t recall what happened to mine, maybe broke it and tossed it or lost it. Stole my dad’s, had it forever, watch died, never changed the battery, tossed it in a drawer and moved onto other G-Shocks. Idk how, but Gunner, my chocolate lab (who has since passed) found it and chewed it up beyond repair as a puppy back in 2014. Been on the search for one of these ever since. Wish they came out with a tough solar/multiband 6 version of it. Great videos! Thanks for posting!

I have a GW-500A that still works to this day and has never failed me. how I got my watch is crazy. I was on my 3rd Deployment to IRAQ and it was for the 15th month deployment (we got extended by 3 months to make 15 months) and my unit was attached to II MEF in the Anbar province. There was a mobile PX on our base so on payday I would periodically check the aisle for something I wanted. on my birthday, I walked into the PX and saw the watch and said why not since I needed a watch anyway. I was 30 years old when I got that watch. Fast forward to today 16AUG23, The watch is in excellent condition. (have to replace band since it finally broke) the screen has no scratches and the body has no scratches. I literally took care of my watch. It has alot of sentimental value since the watch as been with me through two straight deployments and 7 additional years before I retired in 2014. nothing was replaced and nothing needed replacing. I dont know how valuable a watch can be but the GW-500A was the predecessor for the GW-M500A. the watch has been with me 16 years and still works...

I recently retired from a full career in law enforcement. I bought my first basic round face $35 G-shock (Sorry, don't know model number) right after the academy. I put it through hell. Only thing I ever had to replace was the strap that got torn in a fight. Then, after about 15 years, I was just swimming in a lake, looked down and it had died and had water under the face. I actually felt sick. We had gone through so much together. I replaced it with a 5600 atomic/solar, which is still running strong to this day. They are great for traveling too. Realistically, they're probably the best tool watches every designed if you can see the beauty in their ugliness. Thank you for the video.

@Ricelord4Ай бұрын
I still rock a DW-9052 from my brother's college days. He got it in 2009, but I'm pretty sure it's even older than that because it has the 1659 module in it, as opposed to the 3232 version, which was released in 2011. The bezel disintegrated due to age, wear, and tear, the bezel studs went along with the bezel, the battery went flat, and one of the spring bars went missing. After replacing all the worn and missing bits, it's as good as new! These old G-Shocks can really take a beating.

Older Gs rule! No nonsense, unpretentious, and timeless along with all the reasons you mentioned. I rock a sport coat and tie with a 5600 and get compliments. Subtly rebellious while revering heritage. Excess features/size tank that appeal IMO.

I agree Miles. In the 90’s you couldn’t move for choice with G’s now the range is festooned with gimmicky nonsense. Just try looking for a plain black, non LCD inversed watch. They are about 0.01% of the range.

In the sun there is plenty of light, so the black around the lighter color provides good contrast. When indoors, the light level is lower, so the contrast lessens, and since there is less light being reflected into your eyes overall, it is harder to make out crisp lines. Some people may think that the negative display is harder to make out in the sun due to the bright light possibly white washing everything. Never owned a negative display, so this is all speculation

My first G shock was battery operated and lasted me a very long time as my beater watch. I'm a survival instructor so it was hard use. Not much later bought a solar powered model and that still runs. So I think solar power is great. As for functions I don't really use them. The early idea was a 10 year battery. Now you look at models with lots of functions but a 2 year battery. I guess for some people all these extra functions are great. Not for me though since I hardly ever use them but the watch is rugged and telling time for a long time.

I agree. The newer versions of the G-Shocks just looks far too busy with far too many battery draining features. A nice simple layout is all I ever need. I picked up a DW-6900 back in the 90s and still have it. I've only changed the battery once. I suspect those that claimed they're running on the original batteries probably have turned off alarms and don't fool around with the backlight at all (which is impossible as I love hitting the big G button. Well, IMHO, Gshock were disposable electronics, despite of collectors' intentions, the resin shell will eventually dry out, crack and fall apart, to the point where Casio no longer make the replacement shells. Then it will become a moot point for the watch. I remembered how I wanted to see if my first DW6900 will die after 2 years of wear around `91, I was young and just wanted to the see abuses of throwing it against wall, kick it like a football with work boots, etc.. I did kill it when the crystal cracked eventually. I did come back to it after some years, and I now have GD-X6900-MC and a G-5600. Now just hoping it'll last a lot longer with normal use.

Hi, just saying I'm British for the record, but have owned a GW-M850 since it came out in about 2008, the first GS with Waveceptor and apart from needing a new resin strap last year, it has been a great watch. I enjoy your reviews tremendously and they have encouraged me to purchase two more GS watches, a GW-B5600HR at a discount with the resin combi-bracelet with red accents and recently a GW-M5610 that harks back to the original GS. The B5600 has the negative display which can be hard to read but compensates with the amazing combi-bracelet while the M5610 is a superb basic everyday watch. Therefore I have retired the M850 and keep it on my desk for quick time check glances and I wear the B5600 for formal occasions. All brilliant watches although the B5600 has more features than I need now in my mid 70s but all are keepers and wear the M5610 daily. I may get the JaysAndKays metal adapters for a NATO strap now. Thanks for your wise and entertaining reviews!

I'm sticking with my GW-8000 (solar, radio piloted) bought on 2010. I looked on the actual lineup and yup, no need to buy another one. The energy gauge never got down (I'm using the power saving feature)

I have many high end G-shocks (MRG's etc) but enjoy wearing a basic DW5600E most! Battery life will easily exceed 10 years on these models with ease. If you rarely use the backlight, battery can last up to 20 years!

Jory I agree with the general vibe here. I don’t know about the battery life though because right now I only have solar powered G-Shocks. The MTG-900 I got in 2008 and the GW-M5610 I got this year. Battery life is definitely a priority to me so I hope that the modern battery powered ones aren’t actually that bad. One thing I’d like for you to confirm is the optimal viewing angle of the digital G-Shocks. For me, it’s not straight on but actually with the wrist turned slightly away from straight on. I haven’t heard anyone mentioning it but I think it’s intentional and a very impressive subtle touch.

Older all the way, same goes for Timex Ironman watches . I enjoy them also

I've heard that the battery of the GBDH 1000 one, costs around 100$/€, should run for years without a needed replace but would rather invest that money for a new watch then.

still using my GT-000 for daily use... running perfectly since 1998 😍

Bought my DW6600 back in 1994. Wore every day for 10 years until the keeper on the strap broke. Battery was still going. Time to get a new strap and give my old friend some wrist time.

I’ve had an AWG-101 for about 15 years and it hasn’t lost a beat. IMO it’s the best looking G-Shock, I love it’s smaller design

I've heard of these going a lot longer than the 10 year span but never 30 years...crazy!

Can attest to Gshock battery life, I have one from the late 90s and it's still going strong on the original battery

Hello from the UK,.... I’ve a GW6900, it’s still the watch I turn to when going on holiday.

Just starting the video, the quality was definitely better early 2000s/ late 1990s. And I love my 6600. Just replaced the bezel and strap!

I think the main reason my old G shocks are better than new ones is because I haven't yet needed to buy newer ones. The old ones just don't die!

I have a g shock tough label in orange from the early 90s. On that the front disintegrated eventually although I also have a blue one that still looks great

GW-9052 walllmart special. I still ain't changed the battery and I just upgraded it with some kick ass bull bars and band adapter kit so I can wear 22mm bands. I bought it because my mud master took a shit after a month; junk. I'm stickin with my Illuminator.

Love my MRG-1 from 1996. Really want to track down the Eric Clapton G-Shocks from the late 90’s - SO cool!!!!!!!!

My DW-9052 was in the bottom of my sea bag and I had forgotten all about it until yesterday when I dug out. Today seemed like a good day to wear it again and then I saw this video was posted. Coincidence or proof of a Casio-5G conspiracy?

That DW-6600 was the first watch I paid for with my own money. Awesome watch (did have to change the battery, though), had everything I needed from a watch. Sadly, I lost it in an accident. Got a GA 2000 as emo-replacement. Also very good, very simple. Only gripe is indeed legibility. Also, got a Barton watch strap as per your recomendation! Very good! Good video, I liked it! Congrats!

Eh. After having a G-shock with Multi-band 6 and Bluetooth I don't think I can go back to a regular G-shock. Not saying regular/older G-shocks are bad though.

Had G-shocks over the years. Love em. Had a mud master after not having one for several years...what a lemon. Complicated, confusing, ran dead in 2 months, battery change a pain in the ass, wouldnt fire up again..POS. only watch in all my years I tossed I was pissed. Saw the Rangeman. Hmm...maybe? Should I?

I love my DW-8700 (1996). Certainly I wouldn't wear it that much because finding a replacement bezel is almost impossible.

I've a DW5600 and a G2000 whose plastic bezels and straps have dissintegrated due to age. The modules inside are housed in a metal casing with screwbacks, so cool! Modern G's don't have those anymore. Also there made in Japan!
