I bought my 20 year old Omega Speedy via eBay some 4 years ago from Japan. It was near new & not a mark on it. The transaction was seem less & I’m actually wearing it now!

I'm currently in Japan on vacation. I've been buying from Japanese sellers for a number of years and have always had great luck. It has been nice to visit some of these sellers in person. I've also picked up a couple of new additions to the collection that I would not have been able to order to Canada for anywhere near the same cost.

It's totally different if you Buy in Japan from a Japanese , compared to an unknown person who is just selling watches from Japan , they could be Mainland Chinese , Indians , Africans .... they know it gives them credibility if they Sell their products from Japan, i don't say they are all scammers but there is a clear pattern , this is why i would never buy Rolex , Grand Seiko and co. from Japan Online , because you never know who is on the other end in this Globalized world . If you buy then they should give you all informations you need , pictures of the movement and from all angles with a sharp picture not blurry or to dark .

I agree about Japanese sellers. Even with shipping and duty, i have been able to get good deals on watches. However, when I look up the seller, i also google their store to see if there is a physical location. The 2 sellers I'm comfortable using both have actual boutiques.

My $5K Chrono24 purchase was a shit show. Dealer kept switching up his excuses for the watch not arriving as described with the items it was supposed to include. Chrono24 backed the dealer but offered me a $100 refund rather than making the dealer solve the problem. It’s what a platform does when there is a problem that tells you everything you need to know.

Recently seen quite a few fake Jaeger LeCoultre from an Indian seller on eBay. I reported them all. The first one they took down and then they refused to take any more action on the other ones I reported. The seller is still active with all his fakes. eBay needs to be held accountable for facilitating these scams and not taking action even after you report it. That's just shameless behavior and a lack of business ethics.

I bought many watches trough eBay and didn't really have any issues. Purchases from Japan are usually good deals and honest remarks, if you would want to return, they don't give you any problems and sometimes they will cover shipping cost. it may sound bad but 99.999% watches from India are (replicas) Chrono24 will not help you too much with purchase. I have long story to tell about purchasing fake watch from private seller trough Chrono. it has been 3 months and I dont have watch and I dont have my money back yet. Be aware!!!

Is there such a thing as a "Service Report"? I have never had a watch serviced before, and I have seen ads that say "serviced" or "fully serviced." Is replacing a quartz battery "serviced"? Is it standard to ask a seller with a serviced watch exactly what was done?
@Blueeyes2584A11 ай бұрын
In case it's already come up, then I apologize for the repeat, but when dealing with vintage watches that had markings painted in radium, depending on the brand, especially Rolex, bring a Geiger counter with you. If the dial is legit, it will set the meter off. If it's fake, or has been restored, it won't. It's the one aspect that can't be faked on vintage watches, pre-1960.

I had a comical experience once, not online though. I purchased a new Rolex from an AD years ago. About 6 years later I went to a different AD to have it sent off for service. That AD claimed my watch was fake. Didn't matter that I still had paperwork and that the AD I purchased it from verified the sale, that AD that I went to to get it serviced still insisted it was fake 😂

@realalexmackenzie11 ай бұрын
They are all different resellers. Japan is a very convoluted place to do anything, including buy watches. You can pay different prices depending on how "in the know" you are. These eBay listings are put up by people who will source a watch listed for sale locally. They will then list it on eBay for a higher price. If someone buys it on eBay, they simply head over to the Japanese dealer and purchase the watch for the lower price. The difference is their profit. If nobody purchases their eBay listing, they are only out the time to list on eBay. There are multiple listings of the same watch because there are a number of people doing this. The only downside as the buyer purchasing one of these eBay listings is that you're paying a higher price. The watch you get is most likely legit.

I've bought two watches through Chrono 24 and sold another without any issues. They facilitate a deal for commission. Just do not expect any customer service. I mailed them a basic question on something and never even had the courtesy of a reply, which as a former Marketing Director is something I simply would not tolerate. Given this is a well-watched (😉) channel, that is quite a negative they can have back as tit for poor tat. Then again and let's face it, crap customer service is something we've all come to expect on the internet.

Hey there, love your channel and watch all the time. I can’t help though wondering about the statement that you are one of the biggest vintage watches dealers in the country. It’s sort of a vague statement. Are you in the top 30 or 100 or what? The video seems to be for the watch noob and this kind of thing is, or can be, misleading. I really don’t know where one would go to verify info like this. Are you talking dollars or numbers of units. Anyway you seem to me to be one of the nicest dealers so keep up the good work.
@thetimeteller11 ай бұрын
Great question, I’ll (hopefully) offer some clarity on this: My website is verifiably in the top 3% of all stores hosted by Shopify. While I won’t go into sales data here, the amount of units we sell seems to be at a much, much higher volume than other vintage dealers- and that’s all thanks to my incredible support system, which includes you!! 🫵❤️
