Band stretch isn’t caused by the watch being «worn too tight» (8:40), but the opposite, worn so loose that it slides all the way down to where your wrist widens, or even a bit past the wrist joint itself, and where the hand begins and you then BEND THE WRIST with even the slightest force, especially upwards, the way you do when you LEAN ON A TABLE, PALM FLAT DOWN, and other similar situations. What happens is you JACK IT WIDER each time. It’s the momentum that turns the relatively small force you are aware of into the LARGE FORCE needed to bend vulnerable steel elements in a bracelet.

I am pretty sure that is a Frankenstein box. The fit of pillow into inner box is sloppy. Also as you point out a lot of room between inner and outer box. Mine (much older and bought brand new at an AD in Paris) fit like a glove. Old ones used to come with a leather passport case between the inner and outer box which initially held the papers. Nonetheless it seems papers and watch are completely authentic. I have bought numerous watches on eBay and they now give the “authentication guaranty” on any thing above $2,000 US. So far never a problem.

I know that it is a personal preference but that green sticker will lose its glamour in time and possibly tear itself off with all the sweat and other things. So when you reminisce in the future, it might be a little frustrating... As a suggestion, you can remove it from the case back with caution and preserve it in the box and stick a clear one on the case back to preserve the metal. So you have a worn front with a "clean as the first day" back side which can give you a reference of your usage in time.

Another interesting video. There are two issues here...you cannot test a watch on a timing machine before demagnetizing it first and expect to get a true reading. A magnetized watch can cause errant readings to be displayed...beat error, amplitude, and rate. Also, the watch should be fully wound or have been worn for the better part of the day before any timing machine test. Cheers mate.
@BarkandJack5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Charles. The watch was worn for a few days before this video was made and then fully wound to make sure. I sent the readings off to my watchmaker and he said they are what he’d expect from a watch with dried up oils. So all should be fine. Cheers, Adrian

It is a huge risk, purchasing such an expensive watch, from someone you will never meet in person, your taking their word, and trust. When buying a Rolex, you should inspect the watch first, just to make sure its genuine. Last year, i purchased a full set of paperwork and boxes for a 2009 Submariner. The items were very convincing fakes, and the dealer did refund my money, but the wording of his listing on ebay made no mention that they were forgeries. His listing was skillfully frazed so no liability would fall on him, for incorrect description. I wished the paperwork and boxes were genuine items, but you simply cannot tell, when you cannot examine the items.

It appears Rolex don’t allow that. Service = whatever they feel needs doing, including replacing bits that don’t need replacing. mines a 1998 though, and it had been in a safe deposit box since the millennium! No joke.

Those earlier Rolex bracelets really look like crap! Like something you’d get today with a Seiko SKX. Are you absolutely sure this isn’t a fake? I don’t know, but wearing a Sub for 15 odd years with that grimy sticker still on the back, sounds a bit suspect to me. But I hope it all works out, and that this is the genuine article.

David Datura the only sure fire way to authenticate it is to bring it to Rolex for a full service. That’s what I would do if I bought the watch off eBay. It’s fraught with so many risks i would rather look elsewhere but hey never say never!

The Rolex boxes are crap. Guess all the money is in the watch? Maybe... I bought Omega, not because of the box,but it's a very nice box,and makes the unboxing experience a little bit nicer. I live on a sailboat, so I left it at my girlfriend's house. The ocean eats everything.
