What I appreciate the most out of this review…isn’t in the review. It’s the experience and wisdom baked-in. This guy has driven a 911 Turbo S, a 720S, etc, but can separate from those experiences to remain right-sized with expectations and thoughts. That’s what makes this channel useful to critical shoppers. Thanks.

This car has literally everything I want. Decent hp paired with a manual, a good infotainment, a quality sound system, all of that while keeping the great practicality the civic is known for. Also it will hold its value very well, especially the way the market is today. Only thing I don't like is the L15 engine is known for head gasket problems, but i've heard that its much less likely to happen on the SI. And im a mechanic anyways so if it blows at 100,000 I can fix it. Also the auto start stop would drive me insane, at least it can be disabled.

I frequent up my parents house in my 22 Si which is a about a 400 mile round trip. The car has been amazing to me and having the super nice stereo makes road tripping great. The gearing is a little short and the car sits at 3000 rpm around 75 MPH but the road noise cancels out and engine drone

The SI is a joy to drive, no doubt, but bc of the gauging dealer markups, I went the GTI. For me, in my 40s, I find the gti a bit more refined, quieter, I prefer the softer steering feel, and slightly more comfortable, and on road trips I have actually cracked 43.1 miles per gallon!

Traded my 2020 accord 2.0 for the new si. Disregarding the horsepower, this is a more engaging car to drive. Not to mention its crazy maneuverable compared to the boat lengthed accord. And the rear seat in this car will totally suffice if your friends are not XL sized. Done about 3000 miles so far and have averaged 35mpg combined with a fair bit of aggressive driving (accord averages 23), really surprised it does better on gas than a miata. Road noise is acceptable but not great, on par with the accord, can get annoying over long distances. But if you find yourself not needing the rear seats as often, the new si is a really good one car solution imo.

I’ve been dead set on getting a 2.0T 6MT for months now, but just discovered this Si, which is especially impressive in Canada where I am with all its uptrim features compared to the US version (heated seats front + back, heated steering, wireless charger, and a few more things). Pretty sure my focus is set on the Si now, but I’d love to hear more about your switch, as for any pros and cons of both vehicles. Not enough comparisons of these two online IMO.

@owequitit 2 жыл бұрын
IMO, the Si has always been under-rated as a road trip car. I used to live the Si’s all the way back to the 4th Gen Civic and CRX Si. I drove my 2009 Si from the west coast of AZ to Oshkosh, WI non-stop over 33 hours and then back again via Dallas, TX within the span of 10 days. Absolutely no issues other than a bit of excessive road noise. Even my dad had no complaints with his bad back. Great video!

Ditto to everything you said in the video. I owend a '22 Blazing Orange Civic Si from December '21 until July '22. I traded it for a Elantra N with the DCT. I love the Elantra N for many of the same reasons, light, great handling, great steering, etc. After 3 weeks without the Civic I missed the fun of shifting and I saw online that a Blue Si was in transit to a local dealer and I now will be trading my '21 Accord Sport for another Si. Best thing is, I bought a set of aftermarket wheels and Michelin PS4S tires for the Si that I kept and they will be going on the new, blue Si when she arrives. Those tires are much quieter and fantastic handling! I did one 1300 mile road trip from New York to Florida in the Si and have a basis to agree 100% with your review. Excellent!

Adaptive Cruise control is nice but like Tedward said in his video regarding Fuel Economy, that feature will ultimately cost you money on gas because once it senses the speed of the car in front of you, it will slow down to match it depending on the distance you have it set to follow at. You never want to be at a point where you're lowering your speed on the highway because then when you have to pick your speed back up, it uses fuel unnecessarily. Does it make things nicer on a long trip? Yes. I drove to Minnesota last year in my Civic (roughly same distance that Topher drove here at around 1500 miles total) and had no issues driving several hundred miles at a stretch because I could just fidget the wheel every 15-20 seconds to get it to keep steering for me. This is the opinion of a Sport Touring Hatch owner though but obviously the fuel economy isn't any different. I still get 42-43mpg on highway for long trips as long as you're not letting a semi truck slow down your speed with ACC.

Canada always get more features with Honda products even before Integra was brought back so it makes it harder for Canadians to buy the Integra since their Si specs have all the same features and it you save more money. In the US, it is more of a business decision that people will buy the Integra if they want all those features for another $9-10k more well that is before the markups. Si’s have been going for $4-5k over msrp around here in Pacific Northwest, same thing with Integra’s plus you have to wait 2-3 months when you order

I would not fill up any of the new honda turbo engines with 87. Volvo, BMW, and many others have been doing the same, saying that you can put 87 into your turbo engine, and then within 100k miles the engine has been intermittently misfiring, knocking, and slowly destroying itself. You will never notice the issues because the ECU tries its hardest to adjust the timing and power, but it will blow up eventually. I think the only company that makes a turbo engine that can take 87 and not brake is the mazda 2.5, because it literally has a separate tune and map for different octane levels, which most of the competition doesn't do because that is deliberately turning your 250hp car into a 200hp car and from a marketing standpoint, that isn't good. MARKETING runs the car show, not the engineers. Same with 10k mile oil changes, which are also...lies. All you have to do is look at an L15 engine tear down and see that the con rods, valves, crank bolts, and the crank itself, are horribly small and weak, one knock could destroy any of these parts. ONE KNOCK. so imagine you are somewhere where you can't get high quality gas, and you get 87 octane from a no name gas station, bye bye engine. At 5000+ RPM this engine literally shakes itself apart.

I only noticed too much noise on a section of new pavement that wasnt finished well. They are the largest limiting factor on handling though and are quite noisy on fresh pavement. I would have to say pretty much any summer tire will be much quieter and make the car twice as fun in the corners. Such a fun car to drive. The new LSD is incredible, yanks you through the corners under power. Couple that with the rev match that i thought id hate but completely fell in love with and its by far the best Si I've ever drove.

I’d like to add something to the discussion about the goodyear all-season sport tires that Honda has been putting on the Si for the 11th and 10th gen. When they get some wear on them (20-30k miles), you’ll find that you can spin them way too easy when you hammer down in 2nd gear. They also become absolutely terrifying to drive in heavy rain. That was when I had to make a switch to continental dws06 tire. Confidence in all driving conditions is a must for me. When new, the goodyears feel like a great tire. Stiff sidewall with rim guard that makes the car handle very well. This does well for test driving first impressions. They’re also on the cheaper side.

I'll tell you a weird little secret now that you are one of us, I find that if you always double clutch, or coast blip then clutch you wouldn't want to drive anything else(other than a manual),ever but if you just do normal rev match some times, only sometime, you do feel automatic transmissions is a nice thing. get into the habbit of this and you will know I can't describe why this is, I urge you to try. edit:oh god you are not one of us,I mistook you for Tedward.

I gave it a little thought, here is what it is playing will "the blip" becomes a totally different thing once you do double clutch down shifts only now you get feed back from the gear nob, it wants to slid in, even for 1st gear the car rewards you by telling how good that blip was with a mechanical feel in the lever secondly it nolonger takes brute force to put it in any gear it removes that one little bit of down side of manual transmissions that little bit of savagery,unrefinement,that minor gripe into something that only this type of transmission can do,can enjoy it's fun,it's rewarding,it's effortless and smooth you shift slow and calculated,sometimes even having to blip for the gear lever once and then a follow up micro blip for the clutch you do it so slow it's like pulling your pants down for a fart but it‘s that much more civilized and cultured
