Yeah, its pretty basic by today's standards, but I've have much more bare bones cars in the 90s and early 2000s. I'm actually considering a 2021. If you are thinking to buy a new VW JETTA 2019, think twice. I bought this car in May 2019. The 8 speed automatic transmission, beside making a grinding noise when is driving at a constant speed of 30 to 40 miles per hour (+/_ 1,200 RPM), make an annoying vibration. The service department and the VW representative said that the vibration and noise are normal. I think this is the most ridiculos answer that I ever heard from a car manufacturer. I when to different VW dealers and drove a brand new car and all have the same problem. Be careful when you test it, maybe you will not notice it at the beginning. Just type in Google "Jetta 2019 transmission problems" and you will see. Pd: This happens on roads not very steep as we have in florida. Thanks

For those of you who call this car "boring," VW tried to "upmarket" the Jetta with the Mk5 models. It didn't work so well, and went against the history of the Jetta. So they went down to a more market friendly, i.e. boring, people's car type product. I've had Mk2, Mk3, and I failed to get a Mk4, as it's my favourite model. Especially in GLI trim. Funny note, they've had that same damn door open/key in chime for 30 years! LOL

The base model is ok. But I would probably invest in the sound system. But I have a mk4 jetta and its really fun for a 5 speed. The transmission, engine and break pads are very reliable.

1)Low cruising rpm ( for my opinion 1.500 is a little low) , drop just one gear. 2) nice rev match!!! A) My Fiat 500 two cylinder engine with 875cc and 85 hp has the worst rev hang in first gear, it redlines way too fast! B) When you change gears the rpm drps way too slow, i don't know why but in both of our cars ( Alfa romeo 159 and a Hyundai Getz ) it started like that and then during gear changing the rps were droping way faster. I think it has something to do with the clutch. If anyone knows please reply ! Really nice video man !

I think you definitely just get used to the cruise control settings. Every manufacturer seems to have "their" way of doing it and I honestly love my 2015 Golf's CC. At first it kinda confused me, figuring out the buttons but now it totally feels intuitive and I generally just use it to do everything with regard to speeding up and slowing down. Thanks for the great video!

My 2017 Jetta SE has the manual adjustment for the dash lights, maybe its an SE thing? I have an auto, but i do have some sort of vibration when I accelerate in 2nd and 3rd gear i think it might be the catalytic converter, or something near there. Other than that, I love my Jetta! I just bought it last week and im so in love. My sound system is AMAZING as well, it has a factory subwoofer in the rear part over the trunk. my backup camera is awesome, also factory, and it makes an alarm when a car is approaching. It has the blind spot sensors, and the turn signal indicators on the mirrors. I've seen a lot of reviews saying Jettas feel outdated and I'm sitting here like...this is the most amazing car I've ever owned, what are you talking about?! Oh yeah and the armrest is adjustable forward/backward. I use this car for my work commute and Lyft driving. I sometimes get 50 MPG+ going 75 on the highway. for a tank that takes $40 to fill up in Cali and getting 410+ miles out of it, its just amazing.

2.5 inline 5 is easily the best / most reliable motor vw made in the last decade , go figure it’s not as common anymore and they mess around again with turbos
@mujjuman6 жыл бұрын
Tyrone Biggums definitely most reliable. However, not as much low end torque and fuel economy compared to the modern 4cyl turbos (for example, 1.8T that replaced it and the 1.4T that followed)
@neondiamondsaquaberry176 жыл бұрын
mujjuman fuel economy on turbo only happens when you drive like a grandma, when you have fun with it like most people do with turbos fuel economy is worse ..but as turbos degrade so too does the fuel economy , most turbos are going to need replacing around 100k miles or slightly sooner

do you remember when you drove it if there was any noticeable handling issues? I have the same exact model, same year, manual, also live in Mich. Got the car at 10k, and ever since (current 67k) it's had this weird "drifting" feeling on the highways. Kind of like the feeling of you're steering one way, but feels like the rear half is still wanting to go the other way? Got new tires (dealership blamed it on 'feathering' (there was barely any)... multiple alignments, tracking true... same issue. Dealership eventually confirmed it but they can't find anything wrong. It's like a floating, jiggly feeling in the body of the car, despite tracking straight. I've never had a car have this issue. So annoying to the point it makes me anxious driving on the freeway, and I've always been a confident driver. I'm pretty much ready to sell if they can't fix it before warranty is up. Dealership also blamed it on patches of new freeway (like 75 and 94) where the new concrete has parallel grooves in it. I've convinced myself it is a design flaw with the vehicle. Any thoughts?

have you had any issues when going into reverse? also first gear is really slow.
@elevenelevenlife3375 Жыл бұрын
@@edram1909 yeah, I complained once and they said they adjusted something on my shifter/linkage or whatever. It still grinds half the time when I put it in reverse. It’s like you have to push the shifter down just right and over and then it will go in somewhat smoothly.

Im considering it because with the market it looks like i cant find a better deal on a manual, do you think a base manual jetta almost new with warranty is worth 20,000?
@yooooo6296 Жыл бұрын
Depends on your use case and if you have a family or not. These cars will average upwards of 30 mpg pretty easily and are pretty reliable other than oil burning that all modern turbo cars suffer from. If you have a family and need a lot of space I would not recommend this car, they are kind of small

Im headed to test drive this exact car tomorrow but with 80,000 on the clock. I won't often rev as aggressively as the TheTopher did here, but I can tell the rev hang is going to be bad at all gear changes. It's enough to ruin the car for me. The styling, and everything else is great. The stereo, pretty sure I can fix that. But that rev hang.... It needs to fall to an idle as soon as I release the pedal to make me happy. Can it be corrected with a tuner? Most excellent review by the way. Ignore those questioning your skills. Had the engine responded as if should have, your driving would have been very satisfying to watch.

Have you felt any type of spring feel on the clutch pedal as you press or release the pedal? I'm having that looked into but don't know if it's a normal feel for this car. Also, does the car sound loud when you first turn it on? I know the secondary air comes on when a cold start up happens but it developed this louder noise at start up that sounds like it has a tiny hole in the exhaust but goes away after 20 seconds or so when the air pump shuts down.
@JFosterArt3 жыл бұрын
Definitely normal start up noise. I have a 2020 Jetta S MT and it is loud for about 20 seconds after a cold start. I believe there are electronically controlled baffles in the exhaust. As far as the clutch goes, I have no complaints at all. How is it going for you now?
