Economy doesn't mean you can't have a bit of fun, and everyone knows they're not race cars. People are saying they're dull because VW in general are boring as shit to drive compared to their larger European competition (Renault, Ford, Mazda, Honda, even Alfa though they don't sell as well as the rest). Even their hot hatches leave a good amount to be desired in terms of fun because they have a bias towards comfort. I'm definitely gonna give them credit for how comfortable their cars are but damn they kill the fun like no other brand can. That's a huge turn off for some people, myself included.
@PleaseStackChairs6 жыл бұрын
Sergiu-Lucian Petrică That’s on you for missing the design point of a Jetta. A good sedan needs not to be sporty, but reliable and comfortable. Some cars tries too hard to be “fun and sporty” and totally kill there comfort and reliability department. Want fun, go Subaru for around the same price
@xIcarus2276 жыл бұрын
@@PleaseStackChairs Cars like the Audi RS3 completely disagree with your profoundly unidimensional statement. Small and even larger cars can be fun regardless of body shape. By your logic hot hatches shouldn't exist because hatchbacks are meant to be practical, and bigger sedans like the M5 shouldn't be fun because they're meant to be comfortable. I hope you realize how little sens your argument makes. A car is what you want it to be, and I can see you like comfort and that's fine. But don't pretend like that's how they're meant to be. And yes, Subaru are quite fun as well. I have a problem with their spartan interiors however, though I hear they've gotten much better.

I dont think its boring because it doesnt drive like a race car. I think its boring because it has nothing special about it. The exterior looks lazily designed and there aren't any features or amenities at all. This thing reminds me of a Mitsubishi Lancer. Why would I buy this when a Honda Civic offers a good variety of tech, comfort features, fun driving experience, and reliability? Even the Corolla has gotten better and both the Civic and Corolla are cheaper! You could make a case that the Jetta is special because it has a manual but the Civic does too! You can get the Civic in a coupe, sedan, and hatchback. You can have an NA or turbo. Meanwhile the Jetta is using the same instrument cluster from 2003.

Just bought my 2019 Jetta S trim 6 speed. So far I am rally enjoying this vehicle. One complaint, the clutch pedal transfers a weird spinning feeling to your foot when shifting at high rpms. Also a small buzzing sound when shifting above 3-4 k rpms. MPG is like a Prius. Such a great car , the base model is the one to buy.
@jakew20376 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these back in October. It’s a black s with the manual tranny. Coming from a crappy 2000 mustang convertible, I love the car. It’s surprisingly quick (in my opinion) and I love to drive it. Only problem I’ve had so far is a rattle coming from the c pillar, but it got fixed under warranty so now it’s alright. Furthermore, I live in northern Nevada where there is a lot of flat land and I average 46 mpg. I’d say it’s based off of 60% highway and 40% city. I’m not the most conservative driver either. Highest I’ve seen it go is 52 mpg. With that said, before purchasing the Jetta, I test drove a 2018 Impreza, 2018 civic, 2018 Cruze, 2018 Soul, and a 2016 used Mazda 6 touring. All of them (with the exception of the last one) were base models with manuals. The Impreza was actually a fun car to drive in my opinion. The all wheel drive felt good in a way I can’t really put into words. I just couldn’t see myself buying it because of the poor gas mileage and the uh... homely? Look. The civic was actually really nice. I almost bought it, but it just didn’t “feel” like a car made in 2019. It was also a very conservative car in my opinion, powertrain wise anyway. The Cruze was just garbage. Boring and not interesting at all. The soul could win an award for “slowest base model car to ever grace earths surface.” 0-60 in about 1 and a half minutes. As for the Mazda, it was very nice, but everything would’ve been more expensive and personally, I didn’t like the feel of the clutch. It just didn’t vibe with me. More importantly, it had 40,000 miles on it. I chose the Jetta because it has everything the civic had that I cared about, and it has a nice burst of acceleration thanks to the turbo.
@JAnx016 жыл бұрын
The Mazda 6 is a class above. It competes with Camry, Accord, Passat, etc... Btw. It is strange the Civic didn't feel like a 2019 car to you whereas the Jetta did since nearly all VW models sold in the US are based on outdated platforms that have been replaced in Europe.
@jakew20376 жыл бұрын
JAnx01 I liked the Mazda for the most part. It was just the only used car and I was going to get something brand new if I could’ve. As for the Jetta being outdated, I don’t know. I drove a 2000 mustang prior to the Jetta so I couldn’t tell you how outdated it felt compared to older models

JAnx01 oh, my bad I misunderstood. I mean, I loved the civic and how it drove. What I was meaning by “doesn’t feel like a 2019 car” was a reference to the interior of the civic. It was classy and all, but it just didn’t wow me when I sat in the car. The little screen was the most offputting. I’m nitpicking here now though. The civic was an undeniably awesome car, but I just liked the technology the Jetta offered. Being able to have CarPlay is great for navigation and whatnot, which the civic didn’t have.

Considering all that you're getting, I would consider the latest Jettas an automotive bargain! It's a solid, well engineered (and made) car that sips gas, and is actually fun and tight to drive. Around these parts, they were selling brand new (6 speed manual) Jettas for under 17K!
@dzelpwr Жыл бұрын
I'm hearing great things about the 1.4T for fuel economy. Rivalling what the older diesels used to get in the early 2000s. But, this is actually geared TALLER than those old diesels by the looks of things! I'm hearing high 40s and even into the 50s on rural 55 mph limit highways. Outstanding, especially for something that is a pure ICE vehicle, not a hybrid. And the engine has reasonable pep to it. I started looking into these newer 6 speeds on the 2018 and up 1.4Ts, turns out they're 02S family, which is basically the 02A/02J/0A4 family 5 speed transmission with another gear added (also known as MQ250 in other VW code-speak). Means all those parts could easily swap into an older transmission case for those older cars. Has the wheels in my brain turning a bit! I like the gearing in this particular 6 speed 02S a lot. The rev-hanging has been going on annoyingly for years with manual transmission VWs. It's some emissions programming thing as far as I can tell. A tuner can fix that.

I find your audio probably the most realistic out there, based on what i'm able to hear from this video, assuming putting aside the Nokia Ozo audio. I'm almost instantly able to relate, as being consistent to reality from personal experience, the door shut sound..seat belt click sound & the road bump-thumb noise etc. all seem to be of the right pitch & relative volume to each other ? Of course, i'll presume there's no user specified filtering applied (i.e. the entire range of sound is recorded with no exclusion to cut-off sounds above or below certain frequencies etc. in order to give 'priority' to the microphones to pick up the human voice) ? So in other words, i take it that you're speaking more less at 'normal' volume as if talking to a person sitting on the next seat ? If all my assumptions above are correct (only you would be able to confirm if that's correct as you did the recording ?) then indeed i like the audio quality of your recording because i find it's probably the best i've heard so far in terms of being able to best emulate the 'sitting-in-the-next-seat' experience in a drive video review ?! I say this because too often times from so many other driving videos they make the car sound artificially quiet as if hardly any engine or electric motor noise or road & tyre noise & only the presenter's voice is heard loud & clear...but that sort of audio obviously fails to give the real perception of what's it like actually being there sitting in the next seat...which one soon later discovers upon watching another video from another source who's able to record a far more 'complete' accurate reproduction of all the sounds actually present ! So you're recording using 2-channel stereo on 2 microphones...that's looks to me so from those Roland ear phones ? Have you tried using the Nokia Ozo audio to capture the sound...they use 3 microphones (on a modern Nokia smartphone like the 7plus) for what i find to be the most realistic accurate audio reproduction i've personally experienced...from my own recordings done using my Nokia 7plus on my drives on EV's..almost 'everything' got (accurately) picked up by the Nokia Ozo audio i.e. motor whine, road & tyre noise , even spring squeak from the occasional hesitant pressing down & releasing of the (inadequetely lubricated linkages) of the accelerator pedal, even drive by sound of a passing motorcycle one can even tell it's direction of travel, engine sound & hifi sound coming from the next car at a traffic light stop etc....little details like these all got recorded in ! To me that's really a realistic emulation of the 'being there' experience which i seem to find lacking in so many drive review videos out there unfortunately.

I really like the design both inside and out, and that it comes with a manual, but I do not trust VW powertrain reliability even for one second.

Vw has been top 10 in reliability for a while now. They were #5 I think in 2018, audi and porsche were also in the top 10. Pretty impressive vw has 3 brands in the top 10.

Lol my 2014 VW Jetta 1.8t SE has 140k miles on it and not one problem to date. Best decision I ever made buying this car. Hasn’t left me stranded once and I beat the crap out of it daily.

Great car if you pick up an S trim for $16k. Paying $20k for this thing down to 147hp is nuts. And the rev hang in the manual sucks.
